Fox News interviews Urban about the long days judging during the audition process on American Idol.
They’re long days you’re often hearing sometimes a hundred people or so in a day. But getting to be on the set with Harry makes it a really fun day. Half the stuff we talk about and engage in with Jen and all of us ends up on the cutting room floor! Those audition cities are a blast. That whole part of the journey is really enjoyable for me.
Seacrest interviews Keith Urban during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions him about how he found out he was nominated for four Country Music Awards.
I was dropping both of my kids at two separate schools and my phone started blowing up crazy early in the morning, I must have got 15 texts in the space of about a minute. It’s crazy, it was just a beautiful morning. In our world, that’s a big thing. My wife, she was ecstatic, but she was in London. She’s over there for the premiere of this film, Before I Go to Sleep. I always chuckle because Colin Firth is in this film and I made the mistake one time of telling people, ‘Yeah, she’s in this film Before I Go to Sleep With Colin Firth.’ Punctuation is everything. Everybody wanted to see that film.
Urban accepts the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and nominates Tim McGraw, Eric Church and John Mayo.
Urban writes a 368 word editorial that encourages the historic preservation of country music landmarks:
The past, present and the future are ALL still here — but the Row is currently under threat from developers. Nashville has exploded as a music town, and not just country music. Musicians from all genres, all over the world are making the pilgrimage here to immerse themselves in the kind of creative center that so many other cities have lost but that Nashville still maintains
Nashville’s growth is exciting, but not at the risk of losing the creative epicenter that is Music Row and that truly makes Nashville Music City.
I sincerely hope that those who have made Nashville their home over the years, and those who have recently discovered our fair city, will come together as a united front and continue to be vocal about preserving and fortifying our beloved Music Row.
Urban posts a statement on his website after an alleged rape occurs at his recent concert at Xfinity Center:
My team and I were horrified to learn of the events reported in Boston this past weekend and our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected. This type of behavior stands in stark contrast to the spirit of our shows.
18 year old Sean Murphy, of Boston, pleads not guilty to a rape charge filed after concert attendees told officers that they saw a possible assault on the venue’s lawn at Urban’s concert in Mansfield, Massachusetts. The presumed victim, an 18 year old female, tells the individual who intervened that the act was against her will. Police:
Officers conducting the investigation were assisted by patrons that had been concerned and took photos and video of the assault on their cellular phones. Those phones are being processed to recover the digital evidence of the assault.
Urban releases his single, Somewhere In My Car, from his album, Fuse. Urban:
I love trucks, cars, everything, and we’ve got some truck songs on the record. But Somewhere in My Car is really … it’s not really about a car so much as it is what happens in the backseat of a car.
Seacrest interviews Urban during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions him about season 13 of American Idol.
I like the fact we’ve got some really good young ones in here — extremely good singers. But it’s so much more than that [at this stage]. I was saying to Nic [wife Nicole Kidman] the other day when you get to the Top 30, they can all sing. They’re all great singers, so then for me, it’s the ones who make me feel something, that’s what it all comes down to.
Urban and Lambert perform We Were Us at the Country Music Awards from Urban’s album Fuse.
Urban releases his single, We Were Us, a duet featuring, Lambert, from his album, Fuse. Urban:
The song called We Were Us came along and it’s actually written as a duet, but the girl sings first, so I thought ‘Let’s do it! Let’s call Miranda up.’ She liked the song, came and sang it, and various people were going ‘Well you can’t have her singing first!’ Why not? It sounds fine! Again, it was always just about how the song works best. The song just works best that way. It’s a duet. She’s not a backing vocalist.”
Urban releases his single, Cop Car, from his album, Fuse. Urban:
I was amazed that there’s always a new way to say something. I so know that guy and that psycho-crazy chick, and I can see that image so clearly. I laughed my ass off, and I loved that song. It’s such a great melody and such a damn cool song. I’m so happy we got that song.
Urban releases his single, Little Bit Of Everything, from his album, Fuse. Urban:
Little Bit Of Everything conveys a sentiment that’s always felt right to me. I connected with that from the first time I heard it. I ‘felt it’ and I loved it.
I gravitate towards the sound of a song and its instrumentation. On this song I was able to take the elements of sound that I’ve used before and blend them together into a fusion of spirit and energy.
Urban releases his single, For You, from the Act Of Valor Soundtrack. Urban donates all of his artist and publishing royalties from this song’s release to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Urban releases his single, You Gonna Fly, from his album, Get Closer. Urban:
I come from playing in a three-piece band and this is a loose, Georgia Satellites kind of song. It’s rootsy and cool and it’s got good swagger, and I thought it’d be really fun to play live.
Urban releases his single, Long Hot Summer, from his album, Get Closer. Urban:
I like to have at least one good summer song on a record. I love radio songs, and there are certain songs that I write specifically trying to hear them on the radio or just in the car. That’s the place I usually have in mind when I write. I still love hearing music in a car more than anywhere.
Urban appears on the cover of People after he is named Country’s music hottest guy. He also goes into detail about his new found peace of mind.
On my better days, I just see the spirit. Much more so than before. And looking back, he swears he wouldn’t change a thing for the world. For me, it’s got to be forward. I heard someone say, Forgiveness is letting go of the idea that you could have had a different past.’ And I love that. I love where I am today. I wouldn’t want to upset anything in the path on the way to here.
Urban wins Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for ‘Til Summer Comes Around.
It feels really good, very grateful.
Urban releases his single, Without You, from his album, Get Closer. Urban:
A friend of mine happened upon this song somewhere and called me up and said,’You’ve got to hear this song, you would swear that you wrote it’ And sure enough, it was uncanny how much it was suited to my life. I think if I’d written something like this, I would have felt it was too literal, not poetically disguised enough. Maybe it’s because I didn’t write it that I was able to hear how authentic and truthful it is.
Urban releases his single, Put You In A Song, from his album, Get Closer. Urban:
I’ve always loved songs about the guy in love with the unattainable girl. And the idea that the only chance that this poor guy is ever going to have to get close to the object of his affection is to put her in a song, just struck me. That way he’d be able to take her with him everywhere he goes… day and night.

Urban releases his single, Only You Can Love Me This Way, from his album, Defying Gravity. Urban:
This is a song that (producer) Dann Huff brought to me. There are certain songs that I wish I could have written because the phrasing of them is not instinctual to me. I like to be able to do something a little different.
Urban releases his single, Til Summer Comes Around, from his album, Defying Gravity. Urban co-wrote the song with Monty Powell. Urban:
I had this idea about a theme park. For me, there’s something fascinating and deeply sad about theme parks in the wintertime when they’re shut down. I loved that metaphor. So I said to Monty that I wanted to write about a guy who meets a girl at a theme park. They have this brief fling and she says she’ll be back, so every year he’s still there waiting. ‘Longing’ is such a powerful feeling, and if you’re going to write about love, that’s a powerful way to get at it.
Urban releases his single, Kiss A Girl, from his album, Defying Gravity. Urban:
I wrote a lot with Monty Powell and with ‘Kiss’ it was a song that Monty had the title for. We don’t often write from titles, but we just loved that title. You know, ‘I wanna kiss a girl,’ I loved it as soon as I heard it. We started writing the song a long time ago on my bus towards the end of the last tour and ‘Kiss’ didn’t really have the thing and we didn’t finish it. I was at his house one day working on something and we took a break and I found a little drumbeat and started playing an intro riff on electric and singing this melody and that title came back to me. We spent the afternoon playing at it and it wrote itself very quickly.
Urban releases his single, Sweet Thing, from his album, Defying Gravity. Urban:
Oh I can relate to that guy. I like that sort of romance and that feeling of always trying to be worthy.
The artist releases his single, Start A Band, featuring Urban, from his album, Play. Paisley:
It’s probably not what you think, in the sense that it’s not a blazing fast thing. It’s more of a rockin’ Eagles style tune like back when Joe Walsh and Don Felder would play those harmony parts.
