Oil slicks found
Vietnamese search planes find oil slicks in the ocean off the southern tip of Vietnam that may be from the missing aircraft. A Vietnamese government statement says the slicks are consistent with the kinds expected to be left by a crashed jetliner. Lai Xuan Thanh, the director of Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Administration, says:
An AN26 aircraft of the Vietnam Navy has discovered an oil slick about 20 kilometers in the search area, which is suspected of being a crashed Boeing aircraft — we have announced that information to Singapore and Malaysia and we continue the search
Search vessels from Malaysia, China, Singapore, the Philippines and the United States Navy are searching for the presumably downed aircraft.
