Wahlberg plays Joseph Grusinsky, the son of a police captain who, unlike his brother, has joined the police force and is a rising star. This crime drama is directed by James Gray. Co-starring Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes and Robert Duvall.

I had worked with Gray on The Yards, and he was writing his next screenplay and he asked me if I wanted to be a part of it, he had originally set it up at Warner Brothers. I was very excited about my experience of working with James and just thought he was a super talent. So he wrote the script with me in mind, and then it was very difficult to get it off the ground, we finally got it going, got it out of Warner Brothers, and we had approached a couple of independent financiers, and we were finally able to get the movie made. So anything that James is going to do, I would love to be a part of.

Wahlberg plays Staff Sergeant Dignam, an undercover officer whose family ties to organized crime make him a perfect infiltrator in this action drama directed by Martin Scorsese. Co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone and Vera Farmiga, Alec Baldwin.

I had a good time working with the acclaimed filmmaker. “It was a great experience. He let me go nuts. He said, ‘Do what you want, say what you want.’”

Wahlberg plays Bobby Mercer, who along with his three brothers seek revenge of murder of their adoptive mother. This action drama is directed by John Singleton. Co-starring Tyrese Gibson, André Benjamin and Garrett Hedlund.

The opportunity to play that kind of guy, the opportunity to make a movie that I would actually run out to go see. As opposed to a lot of movies I’ve made where if I wasn’t in it I would probably wait until I caught it on a plane or in a hotel or something. So yeah, everything about it. I just thought that this was right up my wheelhouse, and if done the right way with the right guys, this could be a very special movie.

Wahlberg plays Chris Cole, a the lead singer in a Heavy Metal tribute band in this musical drama directed by Stephen Herek. After being fired from the band, Cole finds himself auditioning to replace the real band’s singer. Co-starring  Jennifer Aniston, Dominic West, Timothy Spall and Timothy Olyphant.

I’d have to listen to the singing in the movie closely. I studied with the vocal coach for six months, but we also had somebody else who sang the songs. But whenever we performed, we performed live, so I’d have to pay attention to the songs. If I could hit them all, it would only be my voice.

Wahlberg plays Troy Barlow, a Sergeant First Class who along with two soldiers plan a gold heist during the 1991 Iraqi uprising at the end of the Persian Gulf War. Things don’t quite go as planned in this action drama directed by David O. Russell. The film also stars George Clooney, Ice Cube, Spike Jonzeand Nora Dunn. Russell:

Mark is very serious as an actor and I think more people will increasingly understand. His ambitions are equal to De Niro’s, and I think people will get that as he builds his body of work. He was perfect for this role.

Wahlberg plays hitman Melvin Smiley, who undertakes a kidnapping job to payoff his second girlfriend’s debt in this comedy drama is directed by Che-Kirk Wong. Co-starring Lou Diamond Phillips, Christina Applegate, Bokeem Woodbine, Antonio Sabato, Jr., Avery Brooks, China Chow, lliott Gould, Lainie Kazan and Lela Rochon.

Well the funny thing about this movie is that this one cost about half of what it cost to make Boogie Nights. That’s is a huge surprise to most people ‘cuz it looks so big, like a real expensive film. Wong did an amazing job. All credit to him. I had finished Boogie Nights and I needed to do something that was a total 180 from that. When I read the script, the comedy aspect really got me. When I saw Kirk’s movie with Jackie Chan, I saw it was more about the acting than the action. That was impressive to me.
