Calls Cyrus a ‘bitch’

Minaj calls Cyrus a bitch at the VMAs.

And now, back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press, Miley what’s good?

The taunt is in reference to Cyrus’ New York Times interview where she said Minaj’s Twitter spat with Taylor Swift was about herself as opposed to the real issues.

You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my VMA’…If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type’.

Cyrus replies:

We’re all in this industry. We all do interviews and we all know how they manipulate shit. Nicki, congratu-f-ckin-lations.

The camera cuts back to Minaj who seems to mouth back, “Bitch.”

Trade comments on VMA nomination

Makes Statement

Swift and Minaj trade comments on Twitter due to Minaj being not nominated for a VMA for Anaconda, while Swift was nominated for Bad Blood.

Minaj: If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year

Swift: I’ve done nothing but love & support you…It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…

Minaj: Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. I’m still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear…

On Air interview

Minaj gives an interview with Ryan Seacrest during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about her album The Pink Print.

It was really frustrating because I wanted to put it out since the summer time, but now looking back, I understand why I needed to take that time just as a woman. I was going through so many changes in my life professionally and personally. And it was good for me to just take a month, come back, write, reflect, take a month, come back, write, reflect, and now what The Prinkprint represents for me is a brand new chapter. Like something that I kind of put a lid on.

V cover

Magazine Cover

nicki-minaj-v-magazineMinaj appears on the cover of the Winter 2014/2015 issue of V magazine. She talks about taking risks, her album The Pinkprint, and on influencing women.

I love women who take control, who set standards, and who believe in themselves enough to lead the way in terms of their career. I’ve done that. When I win and when I lose, I take ownership of it, because I really am in charge of what I do. There are a lot of strong male rappers, who’ve influenced me a great deal in terms of my skill, my flow, and my business-savvy side. But at the end of the day, I still want to inspire women.

Billboard cover

Magazine Cover

nicki-minaj-billboard-magazine-coverMinaj appears on the cover of a November 2014 issue of Billboard magazine. She talks about her time at American Idol, staying competitive, and the criticism of her Anaconda video.

Everything we see that’s labeled as beautiful is very skinny. In the song I kind of say, ‘F— them skinny girls.’ But it’s all love. I consider myself a skinny girl. I went overboard with the video to show that I’m not going to hide. And those big-booty dancers I have, they’re not going to hide. Black girls should feel sexy, powerful and important too.

Magazine Cover

b10Minaj is featured on the cover of L’Uomo Vogue magazine. When asked about the future of her career in the enclosed q&a Minaj replies:

At first no one took me seriously. In the world of rap, women are usually relegated to the choir. I want to build my empire. In my field, I have always seen men do it from Diddy to Dr. Dre to Jay Z. Now it’s a woman’s turn.

Performance cut short

Music PerformanceTV Appearance

Minaj is upset CBS viewers didn’t get to see parts of her Anaconda performance on Fashion Rocks performance Tuesday (Sept. 9).  On Instagram:

My darlingz, I wish you could’ve seen the choreography on the 2nd verse of ANACONDA last night. It was absolutely divine. CBS decided not to show it,” wrote Minaj. “Had they told us this before, we would have changed the choreo so that you guys could see the full performance from beginning to end. They already had you tuned in tho. Artists spend so much of their own money, time and passion to deliver their fans great performances. But ultimately, our art usually falls into the hands of people who care nothing about our art and creativity. Promise you’ll get to see this new choreo soon.

Jesssie J:

I heard it and was like: “If I don’t record this, I’m an idiot.” I went in the studio that day and recorded it, sent it to Max Martin with some of my changes and obviously I put my vocal down on it. He phoned me and was like, ‘I want to get Ariana on it’, and I was like, ‘I think this is an amazing idea’. And then Nicki heard it and wanted to jump on it, so in an instant it was obviously the first single.

Fader cover

Magazine Cover

Fader Minaj coverMinaj is featured on the cover of Fader magazine’s fall fashion issue. During a Q&A inside the issue Minaj is questioned about how creating pop music has changed her career.

I felt like my pop music made me have to retell my story. My credibility as an MC—I never thought I would have to explain that. I thought it was so evident that I belonged here [in hip-hop]. Looking back now, I love that I was pushed to reinvent myself because when I sit back and I really look, I need hip-hop, and hip-hop needs me.

Nicki Minaj interview

Seacrest interviews Minaj during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions her about her single Anaconda.

We were in the studio in L.A. I was in one room, they were in the other they said, ‘Okay, let’s see what we can do.’ And I walked back in the studio and I said, ‘Oh my God, this is exactly the feel I was going for’ because it was fun. I wanted to have fun, I wanted to have something for girls to dance to in the club, and to me it worked in every way possible.

Anaconda cover release

Album Release

b1Minaj releases the cover art for her single Anaconda which samples Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back. The cover art features minaj wearing only a G-string, halter top and sneakers.

He (the photographer) was thinking that it may be too over the top, and I said, “Well you know, in the beginning of my career, I did pictures like that, I did photo shoots like that,” and I didn’t want to lose that sense of who I am. I feel like one of the people I look up to the most was Madonna, and she’s never stopped pushing the envelope. She’s never stopped taking risks, and I don’t ever want to stop doing that either.

So Bad video

Cam’ron releases the music video for his single So Bad ft. Nicki Minaj from his album Purple Haze directed by Antwan Smith .

Nicki is a professional. I sent her something for her album so she sent me something for mine and we shot the video. The video was actually shot over a year ago, so I just kept it in the cut and made sure it was time for it. But we did everything back-to-back. When I did stuff on her album, she did stuff for mine, so I just held onto mine until it was time, but it was cool working with her. She’s down to earth, she’s cool.

The other day, literally I didn’t tell anybody this, I really thought I was about to die. Like, I was saying my prayers to die. And I didn’t even want to call the ambulance because I thought, ‘Well if I call the ambulance, it’s going to be on TMZ.

Pills ‘N Potions single release

Single Release

b2Minaj releases the single Pills ‘N Potions as the first single from her album The Pink Print.

I think everybody knows how obsessed I am with Jay Z. He’s always been my favorite rapper, him and Wayne, and he did such a great job of creating this Blueprint brand for male rappers I studied a lot of his Blueprint, in terms of being a mogul, I wanted to do that. I wanted to be like Jay Z. I felt like with what I’m doing, I want female rappers to be able to pattern themselves with what I’ve done one day. I think the album is so classic. It’s gonna feel so good and I think it will probably be something that female rappers look to as a Pink Print for years to come.

Pills N Potions

Single Release

Minaj releases the official music video for Pills N Potions, directed by Diane Martel.

It’s been literally my most critically acclaimed single ever. Sometimes I get a beat or a hook and I just write what it tells me, what it feels like. What that felt like to me was forgiveness, you know, and just understanding that everybody gets mad, but when you love somebody, I feel like you’ll always love them. I don’t feel like there’s ever been somebody that I loved that I no longer love, I just may not be able to live with you or have you in my life, and that’s really what the song is about.

Nicki Minaj interview

Seacrest interviews Minaj during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions her about her single Pills And Potions.

It’s kind of like a tragic love story I just kind of feel like when I was working on the album, I started realizing how much things have changed, how much people change. And how people come in and out of your life I’ve just been reflecting a lot. I love that it has that feeling of ‘No matter what, I still love. There’s still love there.

Starships video

Minaj releases Starships video from her album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The video is directed by Anthony Mandler and features Minaj in a bikini covered in body paint, rapping on a beach. When asked about the Pop sound of Starships and why she is singing on the track Minaj replies:

I did a song called Knockout with Lil Wayne about three years ago. Nobody said anything about that. Why? Because it didn’t become huge like Starships. That’s what irritates me. People always want to talk about who I was, but I’ve always been singing, always been experimenting with pop music. So the fact that it got huge one day, should I apologize for that? Should I apologize that Starships and Super Bass did well, and children like them, and Middle America can sing along? There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just broadening my fan base. I think everyone should enjoy music.

The Other Woman

Film Appearance

Minaj is cast as Lydia in the film The Other Woman starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton. Directed by Nick Cassavetes the film depicts a wife and two mistresses that become friends after finding out about each other and seek revenge on the man they all fell in love with.

I’m anxious as hell to play opposite Cameron Diaz. Sometimes I’ve just been up, like, ‘Oh my God, please. I don’t want to disappoint myself in front of her.’ Would you believe I read Django? I loved that script, but I knew I was never going to be able to play that Kerry Washington part. I never even auditioned, but she’s fricking amazing.
