Uptown interview

Interview0 Comments

Latifah gives an interview to Uptown magazine. She talks about the attitude of society towards black gay women.

People’s ideas in general are antiquated when it comes to who you love. We haven’t moved as quickly as we probably should… And the reality is that there’s always been gay people in the black community, so it’s not foreign to us. And not just as a black community but just a society as a whole.

Queen Latifah interview

Seacrest interviews Latifah during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about her hosting the pre-awards show of  The 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards.

It’s not one of those things that’s so tight and rigid that everyone has to be on point. It’s kind of like the looseness of a Golden Globes kind of feel, which is always fun for us. This awards season is very long. We got a lot of different events. There’s a lot of different tones at each event that celebrates what do in film. And this is kind of the one that sort of kicks it off and be a little casual and yet still formal. The fact that it’s live, it’s going to be real loose.

Russo reveals that she is taking medication for bipolar disorder during a taping of the Queen Latifah Show. Russo appears on the show with her Nightcrawler costar Jake Gyllenhaal.

For all the people that are having trouble and maybe feel bad about taking medication, I didn’t expect to say this, but that was really it for me. It’s okay — you will make it through. It’s not easy but you will make it through. I literally crashed, hit a wall and couldn’t get out of bed. I thought it was depression, but if you take antidepressants it speeds you up more. I’m kind of stop-and-go, I either crash or speed. I haven’t shared this, but I think it’s kind of important. I have some friends who don’t want to go on medication, and they are suffering.

Queen Latifah interview

Seacrest interviews Queen Latifah during On Air With Ryan Seacrest and questions her about how she felt marring 33 cuples at the same time during Grammy Awards show.

I was very emotional because outside of all of the hype of everything – it being the Grammys, it being a world stage, all of the musical performances, the fact that it’s Mackelmore, Ryan Lewis, and Madonna and Mary Lambert – there’s 33 couples out there who are taking the biggest step of their lives probably. Who are actually making a commitment and it’s scary! It’s exciting! It’s wonderful! So I really tried to just focus on them and the love they have for each other to actually make that commitment.
