Trump meets tech leaders

Trump and Pence meet with tech industry leaders at Trump Tower. Trump:

This is a truly amazing group of people. I won’t tell you the hundreds of calls we’ve had asking to come to this meeting. I’m here to help you folks do well. And you’re doing well right now and I’m very honored by the bounce. They’re all talking about the bounce. So right now everybody in this room has to like me — at least a little bit — but we’re going to try and have that bounce continue.

Clarifies opinion on women asking for raises

Nadella clarifies his views on women asking for raises in a company-wide email that is also posted on Microsoft’s press website.

I answered that question completely wrong. Without a doubt I wholeheartedly support programs at Microsoft and in the industry that bring more women into technology and close the pay gap. I believe men and women should get equal pay for equal work. If you think you deserve a raise, you should just ask.

Comments on women raises

While being interviewed onstage at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Nadella says women should not ask for raises, but will receive them via karma.

It’s not really about asking for a raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will give you the right raise. That might be one of the initial ‘super powers’ that, quite frankly, women (who) don’t ask for a raise have. It’s good karma. It will come back.

CEO rallies employees

Nadella sends a 3,000 word email to all Microsoft employees, encouraging them to be productive and stick to the core value of Microsoft, helping people get things done. He also expresses a belief that Microsoft’s software and hardware will “set the bar” for productivity in the future:

Microsoft has a unique ability to harmonize the world’s devices, apps, docs, data and social networks in digital work and life experiences so that people are at the center and are empowered to do more and achieve more with what is becoming an increasingly scarce commodity — time!
