60 Minutes interview

Trump is interviewed by Pelley on 60 minutes. He talks about his upcoming tax plan:

Some very wealthy are going to be raised. Some people that are getting unfair deductions are going to be raised. But overall it’s going to be a tremendous incentive to grow the economy and we’re going to take in the same or more money. And I think we’re going to have something that’s going to be spectacular…I don’t want to have certain people on Wall Street getting away with paying no tax.

He also says NAFTA is “a disaster”:

We will either renegotiate it or we will break it. Because, you know, every agreement has an end…Every agreement has an end. Every agreement has to be fair. Every agreement has a defraud clause. We’re being defrauded by all these countries.

On illegal immigrants:

We’re rounding ’em up in a very humane way, in a very nice way. And they’re going to be happy because they want to be legalized. And, by the way, I know it doesn’t sound nice. But not everything is nice.

Alive 55+ and Kickin’

Play/Show Appearance

Higginsen’s Alive: 55+ and Kickin’ is profiled on 60 Minutes. The Harlem show gives black baby boomers, many who have not been on the stage before, an opportunity to share stories and songs about their struggles in urban America. Higginsen:

The first 50 years are for learning; the second 50 are for LIVING! The older people carry the music in their body, in their mind. If they die, then that sound may be gone forever…No matter what life has thrown at you, no matter what you have done throughout your life, there’s always a chance to get it right.

Higginson tries to match the performer’s singing to their life experiences. Participants include one man who is illiterate, and another who had been in jail for 40 years:

Stahl: Why did you pick him, if he’s this person who destroyed your neighborhood?
Higginsen: Because he’s part of it. He’s part of the big picture. I can’t ignore that. And perhaps it was necessary for him to have a second chance. Perhaps he deserved it, another chance.

Attkisson: Obama called Benghazi terror attack

Attkisson writes in Stonewalled that after Pres. Obama confronted Romney in the second presidential debate about Romney’s decision to label the Benghazi attack ‘terrorism,’ she learned that CBS’s Steve Kroft did a 60 Minutes interview with Obama the day following the attack. She says she was instructed to do a story on the debate using the 60 Minutes script, but found out later that parts of it were never aired, including part that showed Obama also apparently calling the attack an act of terror. Unaired exchange:

KROFT: Mr. President, this morning you went out of your way to avoid the use of the word terrorism in connection with the Libya attack.

OBAMA: Right.

KROFT: Do you believe that this was a terrorist attack?

OBAMA: Well, it’s too early to know exactly how this came about, what group was involved, but obviously it was an attack on Americans.

She says this was done intentionally:

I couldn’t get past the fact that upper-level journalists at CBS had been a party to misleading the public.

She says CBS posted the transcript to its website the night before the election, but it was lost in the final hours of the campaign. An internal investigation was promised but never happened.

Syria sarin attack report

60 Minutes reports on an August 2103 Sarin nerve gas attack in Damascus, Syria. U.S. intelligence estimates that is kills 1,429 civilians, including 426 children.

Nobody knew what was going on. People were just praying for God to have mercy on them. Sir, I’ve seen things you wouldn’t even dream about in your worst nightmares

It just took seconds before I lost my ability to breathe. I felt like my chest was set on fire. My eyes were burning like hell. I wasn’t able even to scream or to do anything. So I started to beat my chest really hard. It was so painful. It felt like somebody was tearing up my chest with a knife made of fire.
