Must also attack against Bayern
Wenger believes playing too defensively against Bayern could prove fatal.
I would sign today to take a point but to sit off Bayern. But with their offensive quality, that would be difficult to maintain for 90 minutes. We have to relieve the pressure whenever we can and try to score goals. That is the structure of our team, to attack. If you get our players only to defend then I do not think we will be so efficient. We have to play every time we can.
He also says the team has ‘stabilized’
[The victory against Swansea City] was impressive because if you look at our away results since the start of the season, we have won at Crystal Palace and Watford, at Newcastle and at Swansea. So it looks like the team has stabilised and is growing as a unit. So let’s grow even more. We are certainly more stable defensively but that is from the start of January. If you look at the points we have taken from January 1, we have taken more points than anyone else.
Arsenal 1-1 Spurs
The North London Derby ends all square after Nacer Chadli’s opener for the visitors is cancelled out by a late strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Spurs give Ryan Mason his Premier League debut following his goalscoring cameo against Nottingham Forest in midweek. Arsenal suffer injuries to Wilshire, Ramsey and Arteta. The result leaves both teams off the pace behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Arsenal 3-0 Aston Villa
Arsenal win at Villa park beating their opponents through goals from Mesut Ozil in the 32nd minute, Danny Welbeck in the 34th, and an own goal by Aly Cossokho in the 36th minute. This ends the host’s unbeaten start to the season. Wenger:
We had a good work-rate and concentration from the start. We had a very good first half when we were in control and dominated the game. They [Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil] combined very well, especially in the first half. Our plan today was to play Mesut behind their midfield and it worked.
Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Arsenal
Dortmund win by two goals from Ciro Immobile and Emerick Aubameyang in the 45th and 48 minutes of the game. Danny Welbeck gets chances to score for Arsenal but fails to convert them. Jack Wilshere is substituted after twisting his ankle. Wenger:
We were not at the requested level, We had a difficult night, congratulations to Dortmund because they were the better team, but we had a disappointing performance.

Leicester 1-1 Arsenal
It was tough, Leicester played very well and defended with a lot of heart. Our attackers did well but on the other hand they were not fantastic they didn’t score. We are active in the window, we are working hard to find a solution. We try very hard. Nobody can ever predict what can happen in the last 24 hours. But if we had to buy a player every time you didn’t win a game it would be too easy. In the Premier League it is difficult to win games. That is the way it is.
Arsenal 2-2 Everton
At two goals down we gave a great response, we showed a complete desire to come back

I have to go step by step. I have only trained twice with the team. I just have to keep working hard and training.
Transfers to Barcelona
Vermaelen is transferring to FC Barcelona. The Catalan team have come to an agreement with Arsenal over the transfer fee for the 28 year old Belgian defender, which is reported to be around 15 million Pounds. Manchester United was looking to sign the player, but apparently lost interest after Arsenal demanded the Red Devils include a player in the deal. He must still pass a medical test and come to personal terms with the Spanish side before the deal is finalized. Arsene Wenger:
He needs to play now. He has shown an outstanding attitude but he is in a position where we wouldn’t stand in his way if he finds an interesting opportunity.

I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world.I’m looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success. Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.
Birmingham City 2-1 Arsenal
A nation celebrates as a stoppage time goal from Obafemi Martins gives the Blues victory over the South London nomads. Red hot favourites going into the match, the Arse could not prevent the plucky Blues lifting their second League Cup following a dominant display. Arsene Wenger complains about the officials and claims not to have seen the foul by his goalkeeper in the second minute that should have led to a penalty for the Blues and a red card for his repugnant number one.
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal
In the last League Cup Final to be played at the Millennium Stadium, Chelsea edge out the Gunners in a testy affair. Two goals from Drogba give Chelsea victory but the game is marred by a late brawl that results in three players being sent off. The game finally ends after 102 minutes with Arsenal’s manager Wenger ranting about the performance of the linesman.

A huge shock at Wembley as third division Swindon stun hot favourites Arsenal with a 3-1 victory. Arsenal blame a heavy pitch and a flu bug as a record crowd of 98,169 see two goals from Don Rogers seal the match in extra time for the plucky underdogs.
Leeds 1-0 Arsenal
Terry Cooper’s long range strike after 20 minutes gives Leeds their first League Cup victory in front of 97,887 at Wembley Stadium. A drab affair, Don Revie’s Leeds are content to defend for the remaining 70 minutes as they successfully defend their one goal lead against an uninspiring Gunners side.
