$87 million Nike deal
Chelsea sign an $87 sponsorship deal with Nike, which will begin in the summer of 2017 boosting them to second in Europe in terms of sponsorship, behind Manchester United’s £75 million ($108M) per year Adidas deal. Chelsea’s deal with Nike would be the brand’s most expensive, larger than Barcelona’s $40m year contract, which runs through 2018.

The game finally ends after 102 minutes with Arsenal’s manager Wenger ranting about the performance of the linesman.

Jose Mourinho wins his first trophy in England with a thrilling 3-2 extra time victory over League Cup specialists, Liverpool. Strikes for the Reds from Riise and Nunez are to no avail as an own goal from Gerrard is followed up by goals from Drogba and Kezman to give the Blues their third League Cup triumph.

Chelsea win their third League Cup (and first since 1965) with extra time goals from Sinclair & Di Matteo. Middlesbrough are the unlucky losers for the second year in a row but are consoled with promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the season.
