New guidelines for undocumented students
The Obama administration issues updates to its education policy to ensure public schools enroll children regardless of citizenship. They’re based on the 1982 Supreme Court ruling that forbids public schools from discrimination based on immigration status. Attorney General Eric Holder tells reporters:
The Justice Department will do everything it can to make sure schools meet this obligation. We will vigilantly enforce the law.
This action is part of the administration’s efforts to reshape immigration law via executive order.
