Deeply regrets ‘taking’ lion

Makes Statement7 Comments

Palmer issues a statement saying his hunt was legal and that he will assist authorities:

In early July, I was in Zimbabwe on a bow hunting trip for big game. I hired several professional guides and they secured all proper permits. To my knowledge, everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted. I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt. I have not been contacted by authorities in Zimbabwe or in the U.S. about this situation, but will assist them in any inquiries they may have. Again, I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion.

It doesn’t matter if Cecil was special, well-known or something else. He didn’t deserve to die as an entertainment for
a human being (a sick one). This man, Palmer, is a shame for human race.

I Feel sick in the pit of my stomach at this story. I cannot understand why you’d kill a lion other than in self-defence,
but why use a method that inflicts unnecessary and avoidable pain? Joy in cruelty, I suppose. A pathetic specimen of humanity.

Even if Palmer sincerely believed all permits were proper and everything was in order, he’s still responsible because when someone pays $50,000 for a trophy lion, that amount of money creates such agreat incentive for something like this to happen that it is totally predictable. So Palmer is still responsible.

Any killing is bad, but what about hundreds (if not thousands) of African children that day of malnutrition and illnesses every DAY?

Gloria

We have starving children & poverty right here in America…We also have self absorbed people of wealth choosing to spend their riches on killing endangered big game animals for fun. Sad.

Marc

Killed a protected endangered species and made life hell for his family. At least he will suffer economic consequences and public humiliation for a while.

Jennifer

Such weirdos…enjoying or liking to kill nature’s creatures, be it Cecil or something else breathing/walking and unaware of the harm some ‘pervert to life’…getting his/her rocks off murdering and taking pictures/selfies with the corpse.
