West’s plan to jazz up Calabasas High School uniforms gets cold shoulder
After intense media speculation, Calabasas High school administrators say that Kanye will not be making over the school’s uniform. The owner of the Yeezy fashion line purportedly hoped to replace the 42-year-old high school’s signature black-and-gold uniforms — and rename its teams from Coyotes to Wolves. School spokesperson:
All we know is that a representative of Kanye West spoke with the principal last week — a low-level beginning meeting. There’s no proposal on the wall. Nothing was signed. No numbers were quoted. Basically, what we’re hearing — and what’s been all over the Internet — are rumors.
The superintendent for Las Virgenes schools also denied a weekend rumor that West had planned to sink $20 million into remaking Calabasas High.
The $20 million, I don’t know where that’s from. There was no discussion of funding or financing. There was certainly no discussion of any amount. So the $20 million is categorically not accurate. [Changing the name from Coyotes to Wolves], That’s a tough pill to swallow. No, the alumni base would lose their mind. No, that’s not on the table.
Lobov wonders if Mayweather will fight McGregor
Lobov, McGregor’s sparring partner, wonders if Mayweather will sign up to fight McGregor.
The ball is in Mayweather’s court right now. He’s the last signature that’s needed. He’s talked a big game, so let’s see if it happens now. Let’s see can he deliver now. When it really matters now, will he show up to fight? That’s what everybody wants to see. It’s going to be a great fight, so let’s make it happen.
Miocic ‘super confident’ he can beat Joshua in a boxing match
Fresh from his title defense over Junior Dos Santos, Miocic says he wants to fight Joshua, and that he is confident he can win.
I think it would be a great fight. He’s an amazing fighter. I think it would be great, something different. I’d love to show what I’ve got. I think he’s an amazing fighter, nothing to take away from him honestly but I think it would be awesome. Conor’s going to do it. It’s great cross promotion, I’d love to be a part of that. I did Golden Gloves and all that good stuff. I just love the fight. I think it would be a great fight. I think people would love to see it. [I’m] super confident. I’m going to go out there and give it all I got. Listen, I’ve got the best coaches in the world and I’d definitely be ready for that fight.
Holloway praises ‘GOAT’ Aldo
After his win over the Brazilian fighter, Holloway praises Aldo on Instagram.
Losing is part of this fight game. Saturday night takes nothing away from his legacy. This is a guy who would show up to his gym sometimes without eating in the last day because he was so damn poor. This is a guy who built the 45 division and became king. This is a guy who found motivation to keep earning what he already had. He defended his throne. For a decade. For honor. For his team. For his countrymen. This is a guy who didn’t start at pole position in this world and look at what he achieved. Brazil needs to celebrate that man. Acai with powered milk and cashews for everyone. He’s a GOAT, and his story will always be an inspiration to me and people of Hawaii. Obrigado, [Jose Aldo] Obrigado.

Kim K ‘saved’ her marriage to Kanye West with a spiritual counsellor
Ian Halperin, author of Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise Of America’s Royal Family, says the Wests have worked through their issues with the help of a spiritual counselor. The therapy wasn’t religious but focused on being a “neutral place for structured healing conversations”.
Before Kim and Kanye started seeing a spiritual counsellor, she was seriously debating whether the relationship could work. Some members of Kim’s family knew about the counselor and encouraged it. But Kim really had to convince Kanye to go.
Kim Kardashian advocates for stricter gun control
On her way back from her vacation in the Bahamas with husband Kanye West, Kim Kardashian says that, as a victim of violence herself, she supports stricter gun control laws.
I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns. After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security. All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.
Johnson: Dana White bullied me
Johnson releases a lengthy statement in which he complains about multiple issues, including lack of promotion, from the UFC. He says White has been trying to bully him to take fights he does not want.
For years I have been a company man and kept quiet, accepting fights, doing as they asked, and always remaining humble and grateful for the opportunities provided to me through mixed martial arts. This is how I was raised through the sport. Unfortunately, UFC’s mistreatment and bullying has finally forced me to speak out…
In summary:
- I agreed to their tyrannical demand to fight Ray Borg and Ray also agreed.
- UFC has refused to give me PPV points on any future flyweight bouts, and has never given me any PPV points on previous bouts. My request was fair and the matchmaker in charge of the flyweight and bantamweight division agreed.
- I gave UFC fair conditions to change the fight to TJ Dillashaw and they refused.
- Dana and Sean have told me that they have no interest in marketing me or the smaller divisions, so when they say that I will make PPV money vs. Dillashaw, they leave out the fact that I have to hit certain numbers of buys, which will not be hit if they fail in marketing me like they have in my previous fights.
- If TJ doesn’t make weight, I can’t break the record for the most consecutive title defenses and they have denied paying me in that circumstance.
- Dana has made an effort to bully me in the media as well as in private, in order to get what he wants, even though it is not what is best for me or the sport.
- If Dana says this will be a big PPV fight for me, and that they will promote it properly, then he can pay for it up front and explain to Ray Borg why he is being taken out of the fight that the UFC matchmaker in charge of the division put him in. Otherwise, it is just another lie and attempt to bully me to do something that Dana wants, but is not the right thing to do for the sport or my career.
- UFC’s track record in making an effort to promote my fights, and Dana’s claim that this is a big chance for PPV dollars for me tells a different story than what Dana is stating to the public.
Aldo releases post-fight statement
Aldo releases a statement after his loss to Holloway, quoting Spanish philosopher Baltasar Gracián and re-affirming his intentions of fighting again.
“Be content to act, and leave the talking to others” – Baltasar Gracian. I only have to thank my ‘dad’ Andre Pederneiras, the best team in the world, Nova Uniao, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be the people’s champion, and (thank) all my trainers, who did a super well done job and got me ready, and all my fans who are always with me, here’s my love and my thank you. I’m speechless with all the love I’ve received until today, and every word you send to me. Thank you.

Tyson: Mayweather a ‘small, scared man’ for Muhammad Ali comparison
Tyson is not impressed by Mayweather’s suggestion that he compares to Ali.
He’s very delusional. Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of great as Muhammad Ali, he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself. OK, he can’t take his kids to school by himself, and he’s talking about he’s great? Greatness is not guarding yourself from the people. It’s being accepted by the people. He can’t take his kids alone to school by himself. He’s a little scared man. He’s a very small, scared man.

Hatton: UFC, McGregor facing Mayweather embarrassment
Hatton, who lost against Mayweather in 2007, says McGregor cannot beat his own performance, nor the performance of Oscar De La Hoya, or Canelo Alvarez, when fighting Mayweather.
I couldn’t hit him. Oscar [De La Hoya] couldn’t hit him. Canelo [Alvarez] couldn’t hit him. Conor’s not going to hit him. If he’s the UFC’s biggest name and he doesn’t lay a glove on Floyd — which no disrespect, I could actually see that happen — I think there is only one organisation that is going to come off worse or one sport. I am a boxer but I am fan of UFC. But if he is UFC’s biggest name and what I think happens in the fight, happens in the fight, it could be a bit embarrassing and I wouldn’t like to see that happen to Conor, because I love him to bits. I think he is good for sports, good for entertainment. If the truth be known, I would like Conor to splatter him. My heart says it but my mind says no, he probably wouldn’t [beat him].

Rogan: Conor McGregor is the greatest featherweight of all time
During his UFC 212 podcast, Rogan says McGregor is the best UFC featherweight of all time.
I’ve got say Conor [McGregor] is the greatest 145-pounder of all time cause he knocked out Aldo, who was clearly the greatest. But in terms of who’s got more victories of course it’s Aldo. The problem is — we’re not doing MMA math here — you’re having two guys actually fight each other. So if you said who is the greatest of all time? Well it would have to be Aldo because he beat all these guys — no, no no, because the two of them fought and Conor merked him. So you’ve to give it to him. Otherwise there’s no other metric. There’s no other metric other than a knockout…He’s the best ever. You have to say he’s the best ever even if he never fights featherweight again. Why? Because he KO’d the best ever. The reality is Aldo’s the best ever but Conor KO’d him. You couldn’t say without the Aldo fight that Conor was the best ever. But once they actually fight, that’s it. That’s all that matters. It’s not MMA math. So you’ve got to give it to him.
Holloway to McGregor: ‘He should beg to fight me’
After his victory over Jose Aldo, Holloway says he’s not going to call out McGregor.
Like I said before, I’ll say it again. That guy was the 2015 champ. This is called the year 2017 right now and I’m the champ. If he wants to come back down, he can come and get it. But if not, it is what it is. He’s a guy who is always looking over the fence, always trying to look for the next great thing or whatever. Demetrious Johnson, he finds this motivation to keep defending. It takes a special human being to do that, and that’s me. I want to defend my throne. I want my fans to know and love me because I want to defend this. I want to show I’m the champ…Come try to take over my village — off with your head, that’s what I’m going to do. This guy is always trying to look for the bigger thing, and that’s him. Good for him. At the end of the day, I’m not going to chase him around. I’m not going to talk about someone who isn’t talking about me. He gets to choose his fights, why will I cry or beg him to fight me? Get the hell out of here with that shit. He should beg to fight me now.

Granaderos hopes Monty will find redeeming qualities in Season 2
Granaderos, who plays Monty in 13 Reasons Why, says he is excited about the show being picked up for a second season.
I’m celebrating the pickup of season 2 just because the story is so important, and there’s so many cool things to take from it. But as an actor, I don’t know any information, so I’m being very hesitant about getting excited for my role in season 2. All you can do is hope that you get included in some capacity and that’s what I’m doing. Either way, I’m happy for all the cast and crew. It’s just an amazing accomplishment… I hope we get to dive into Monty’s background a little bit and figure out why he is the way he is. From a viewer’s perspective, I want to see everyone who deserves to be held accountable [for what happened to Hannah] held accountable in season 2. I think that’s something huge that we can explore.
Regarding his character:
I’m an optimist as a person, and I like to believe that there’s good in everyone. It goes with this theme of: You never really know what’s going on behind the scenes. So it’s easy to judge someone just based on the surface stuff. I like to think, and I’ve created this whole other backstory, that he’s just a product of his environment. Hopefully there are some redeeming qualities that we maybe get to explore in season 2, but I won’t know until Brian Yorkey does.
‘Humbled’ by fans during Australia visit
Langford is greeted by fans when she arrives in Sydney, Australia, for a two-day visit. At the airport, photographers were already waiting for her. One fan had been waiting outside the QT hotel on Market St with her children from 4.30am, eager to catch a glimpse of the star.
[The show’s success] is overwhelming but in a good way. It is terrific. I always love coming home. It is really great.
Analysis: Was McGregor’s Aldo victory a fluke?
A fan creates a video to address comments that McGregor’s victory over Aldo was the result of a fluke punch. The video shows, using video from previous McGregor and Aldo fights, that McGregor baited Aldo, taking advantage of moves Aldo had used in earlier fights.

Kavanagh: Mayweather is a ‘low life’
In a column for The 42, Kavanagh says he has no respect for Mayweather and his gym’s training practices.
When I was in Australia in April, a lot was made of the fact that I highlighted Mayweather’s history of domestic violence during an interview. I’m not sure why people felt this was such a big deal, given that the man has already been convicted of beating up women. That’s a fact. I have absolutely no time for any man with a track record of such behaviour. In addition to that, from what I’ve seen of his gym, it appears to be the type of atmosphere in which bullies thrive. As many people will know, being bullied is what originally led me to martial arts. I’ve sought to create an atmosphere in my gym where people who have been victims of bullying can feel safe. In Mayweather’s gym, the better fighter bullies his training partner. But that’s not how it should work. The better fighter should always be conscious of their duty to pass on their expertise and help their training partners to grow. It should never be a competition in the gym. To me, Mayweather is a lowlife. He’s a guy I’d never want to have any contact with. Regardless of the outcome of this fight, I won’t be shaking his hand.
Kavanagh: I wouldn’t prepare McGregor if I don’t think he could win
In a column for The 42, Kavanagh talks about the fight preparations and says that McGregor will fight under boxing rules at 145 pounds.
That fight is close to being agreed and it will be at a weight very close to 145 pounds — maybe just a couple of pounds above that — so Conor will show once again that making that weight, if necessary, isn’t an issue for him. Everything has been agreed from Conor’s perspective, from numbers to ruleset (pure boxing). I don’t know what’s taking Mayweather so long to sign the contract but we’re 100% ready to go. The ball is in his court now. We’re training for the fight — September has been mentioned — so we’re just waiting for the news with each passing day. The experts may not be giving Conor much of a chance, but I wouldn’t allow myself to be involved in preparing any fighter for a contest if I didn’t think we could win. I know a lot of people are dismissing it as merely a money-grab or a spectacle. If it purely was that, I’d wish Conor well but I wouldn’t be part of it…I believe he can do it and Conor is 100% sure about that outcome.
Tyson: Conor McGregor will ‘look really ridiculous’ boxing Mayweather
While Tyson disagrees that the sanctity of boxing will be tarnished by McGregor fighting Mayweather, he says the UFC Champion will not win in boxing.
No, I don’t believe it can ruin boxing at all. Only way it can ruin boxing is if McGregor goes and boxes Floyd because he’s going to look really ridiculous boxing him. But if he goes in there with the UFC stuff, now this could be pretty interesting. [But] McGregor won’t win in a boxing match…People will pay for anything. If two people are fighting, people will pay for it.
