West releases his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The album incorporates many different types of musical components, including electro, soul, and symphonic. A large number and variety of artists and producers participated in the album’s recording sessions, including Jay-Z, Rihanna, Eminem, John Legend, and Elton John. West:
People with that intangible sound, the people that everybody copy. You know, the originators. That’s what my thing is, it’s quality. What is the best of the best.
Reacts to West apology
Bush says he is glad to hear that West has had a change of heart after calling him racist. Bush say many Americans perceived him as uncaring and apparently detached from the disaster, and that hurt him deeply.
I appreciate that. It wasn’t just Kanye West who was talking like that during Katrina. I am not a hater. I don’t hate Kanye West. I was talking about an environment in which people were willing to say things that hurt. Nobody wants to be called a racist, if in your heart you believe in equality of race.
Apologizes to Bush
In an interview with Lauer on The Today Show, West apologizes to Bush for saying he doesn’t care about black people
I would tell George Bush in my moment of frustration, I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist. I believe that in a situation of high emotion like that we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.

Kanye did call me and he was very sincere in his apology. And I accepted that apology
Interrupts Swift during VMAs
During the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, West interrupts Swift’s speech. Swift, who wins the award for Best Female Video (You Belong With Me), is beginning her acceptance speech when West storms the stage and takes the microphone from her.
Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!
West is referring to Beyonce’s video for Single Ladies. Swift:
I was standing onstage, and I was really excited because I’d just won the award, and then I was really excited because Kanye West was onstage. And then I wasn’t excited anymore after that.

Releases 808s & Heartbreak
West releases his fourth studio album, 808s & Heartbreak. An electropop and R&B album, 808s & Heartbreak sounds nothing like his previous works. The album, which West describes as “minimal but functional”, is primarily sung rather than rapped and contains extensive use of the Auto-Tune voice processor. The album features themes of love, loneliness, and heartache.
It’s a little bit of autotune and a whole lot of f*cked up life. This album was therapeutic- its lonely at the top.

Donda West dies age 58
West’s mother dies as the result of complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure after liposuction and a breast reduction. After the surgery, West is able to go home and takes Vicodin to help with the pain. The next day, she experiences a sore throat, pain and tightening in her chest, before collapsing in the early evening. A friend at the house calls 911 and West is taken to the hospital, where she is pronounced dead in the emergency room. West dies at 58 years old at the Centinela Freeman hospital. Her doctor:
She was interested in some cosmetic procedures and we had discussed that in order for her to go through with the procedures, which she was a good candidate for, she needed what’s called a medical clearance, which just about anybody over the age of 40 is required to have. Because of Donda’s age, she was required to get some cardiac clearance to make sure her heart is in good shape to go through for the surgery.
Kanye West’s rep:
Kanye West, his family and friends would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and kind words that have come in from across the country since the death of his mother

‘George Bush doesn’t care about black people’
West goes off the script while speaking at the Hurricane for Relief telethon to say that Bush doesn’t care about black people. Standing next to Mike Myers, West vents his frustrations about Bush’s slow response to the hurricane in New Orleans. He also says that America is slow to help the poor, blacks, and the less well off.
I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they’re looting. See a white family, it says they’re looking for food.

West wins the Grammy for Best Rap Song for Jesus Walks, and Best Rap Album for College Dropout.
