Welcome to Me

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this 2014 comedy drama written by Eliot Laurence and directed by Shira Piven, Wiig stars as Alice Klieg, a woman who has Borderline Personality Disorder. After she wins millions, she quits her meds and buys her own talk show. Co-starring Linda Cardellini, Jennifer Jason Leigh and James Marsden. On her nude scene:

I’d never read a character like that. I got to a scene where it read, ‘She’s fully naked,’ and I remember thinking: If I do this movie, I have to do this scene because it’s really important to this script.

Wiig guests on The Late Show with David Letterman to talk about her upcoming film with Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson. She also describes the “hippie” culture of Asheville, North Carolina, where they filmed some of the scenes. She also tells Letterman about her father’s reactions to her intimate scenes in movies.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing. You have to have some sort of context for a person to register in your brain, and I was introduced to the world as a cast member of SNL. But I’ve always wanted to do dramatic stuff, to write and direct, do a lot of different things. Comedy is where my heart lies, but there’s also something really satisfying about being able to step away with a small crew, become a character and get to know her for a few months at a time.

The Spoils of Babylon

TV Appearance0 Comments

Wiig plays Cynthia Morehouse, an oil heiress, in this mini-series spoof from creators Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele. Cynthia, in love with adopted brother Devon (Tobey Maguire), ruins all that she touches, even as she lives an opulent life. Co-starring Will Ferrell, Tim Robbins and Jessica Alba.

The whole show is ridiculous and I mean that in the best way. The things this family goes through, the murder and the lies and the affairs, is so absurd and bizarre and written so well.
