In the midst of recent speculation, including that of Coach Jackson, that he would finish his NBA career elsewhere, Bryant states that he doesn’t plan to play for anyone but the Lakers.
A lot of players want to go to different teams or contend to win championships. I’m a Laker, man. I’m a Laker for better or worse…How many times do I have to say that? Dude, I bleed purple and gold.
Lakers coach Scott says that Bryant will have a hard minutes cap this season. The cap is an attempt to preserve Bryant, who has had his last three seasons cut short by injuries. Scott:
I know Kobe’s a competitor and he’s going to play as many minutes as you want him to play. I’m also a competitor, so I want to win and I know having him on the court gives me the best opportunity to win.
Bryant and O’Neal discuss their relationship on O’Neal’s The Big Podcast with Shaq. O’Neal and Bryant were teammates on the Lakers from 1996 to 2004, winning titles in 2000, 2001, and 2002. However, a constant feud between the two led to O’Neal’s eventual departure from the team in 2004. O’Neal:
It’s time to clear the air, because I’ve said many times that we were the most enigmatic, controversial, most talked-about, dominant one-two punch. I just want people to know that I don’t hate you, I know you don’t hate me. I called it today a ‘work beef,’ is what we had.
Here’s the thing — what we did, our disagreements, what made those things special is we said them to each other’s face. We didn’t go behind each other’s back and whisper to our teammates about this, that and the other, because that does nothing but create friction and it’s cancerous to the team.
A woman sues Rose, accusing him of criminal activities including rape and drugging. The woman, identified only as “Jane Doe” in the lawsuit, claims that she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013. During that time, Rose allegedly tried to pressure her to masturbate in front of him, allow him to have sex with her friends and engage in group sex with strangers, all of which she says she refused. She says the two continued to date until August 2013, when Rose and two friends, Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton (who is Rose’s personal manager), invited her to Rose’s Beverly Hills house, where, she says, they slipped a drug into her drink with the aim of raping her. She escaped the house with a friend, but later that night, Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and gang raped her while she was incapacitated. She says she remembers only “flashes” of the incident, but can remember the defendants forcibly raping her. Rose’s spokesperson:
The plaintiff’s allegations are completely false and without any factual basis. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete. Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years. The plaintiff expressed no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars
Jordan addresses the media on his free agency and why he stayed with the Clippers:
Originally with Dallas, I thought I wanted change. I wanted a bigger role and more responsibility, and I was ready to embrace and accept that challenge. But (when) I got by myself and I was able to think about everything that just happened, I realized that being with the Clippers was the best decision for me.
During an appearance on Bleacher Report Radio, James says he still feels the pain of his 2015 NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors:
I just don’t feel like you ever move on from losing in the Finals. You feel like you’re right there. You have a great opportunity to do something special … I guess there’s nightmares, now, about them, about situations throughout the games, and it’s always replaying in my head. You know, it was definitely difficult, and I’m getting better every day, but you know, it takes quite a while for me to get out of the funk.
Lin announces he will sign with the Charlotte Hornets on a two year, $4.3M deal. He’s the latest offseason addition as GM Cho looks to upgrade the team’s offense:
We were looking to get more depth in the backcourt and we feel really good about the signing. He’s going to bring some energy to our backcourt and our second unit. He will be a great addition.
Lin is expected to serve as back up to Kemba Walker and run the second team offense:
The one thing he can really do is get into the paint and with our second unit that is important because he can create shots for others. We have several guys on the second unit that will benefit from that whether it’s Jeremy Lamb or Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky or Marvin Williams.

I’m kind of speechless. This is special. To be able to hold this trophy and all the hard work we’ve put into it this season, this is special. We’re definitely a great team and a team that should go down in history as one of the best teams from top to bottom.
James, despite playing a historic series, falls to a 2-4 record in the Finals:
Doesn’t matter if I’m playing in Miami or playing in Cleveland or playing on Mars. You lose in the Finals, it’s disappointing.
The Golden State Warriors defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and take the 3-2 series lead. Curry drops 37 points, 4 assists, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. James puts up 40 points, 11 assists, and 14 rebounds. Curry:
It was a fun moment, but it will only mean something — and I’ll probably have a better answer for that question after we win that championship — but signature moments only come for players who are holding the trophy
James, despite being on the brink of elimination:
I feel confident because I’m the best player in the world
The Golden State Warriors defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals and tie the series at 2-2. Mozgov also contributes 28 points and 10 rebounds. Curry:
Tonight we came in with the mentality that we had to win this game
Iguodala on guarding James:
Make him work as hard as possible. Make him take tough shots. You look at his strengths, you look at his weaknesses, and you try to take him out of his comfort zone. Sounds easier said than done, but we all have a lot of talent and when we go out there we want to make our stamp on the game.
Offensively we were terrible. Sometimes, your offense just doesn’t show up.
The Cavaliers defeat the Warriors in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. James scores 40 points and also has 8 assists and 12 rebounds. Dellavedova contributes 20 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds in the victory. For the Warriors, Curry puts up 26 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. James:
I’m just trying to do whatever it takes to help our team win. It’s the Finals, and it’s whatever it takes. This is a totally different challenge.
I think I found something when it comes to how I’m going to be able to attack their pick-and-rolls. I’ll keep that in the memory bank going into Game 4.
The Cleveland Cavaliers win Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors to tie the series 1-1. James leads the Cavaliers with a triple-double, putting up 39 points, 11 assists, and 16 rebounds. For the Warriors, Thompson puts up 34 points and 5 rebounds. Curry, despite having 19 points, is only 5-23 from the field. Curry:
Shots I normally make I knew as soon as they left my hand that they were off. That doesn’t usually happen. Mechanically, I don’t know if there is an explanation for it. Just didn’t have a rhythm and didn’t find one the whole game.
I tried to give it all to my teammates. And they do a great job of giving it back to me. Total team effort. To be back in the same position we were in three days ago and to come back and even the series is big time.
In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in OT. Curry leads the Warriors with 20 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. James drops 44 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds for the Cavaliers. James:

Curry on the overtime:
It was just a classic five minutes that we needed to get that win.

Why not us? The Bay Area’s been waiting for 40 years. I think it’s time.
On two-year-old Riley:
I think she’s taking advantage of the moment for sure.
Harden on Game 5 loss:
Tried to do a little bit too much and turned the ball over and gave them easy baskets in transition. This isn’t where we wanted to end at. It’s a really good season for us. Next year we want to be better, and we will.
Coach McHale on Rockets:
The guys fought hard. One thing about the team is that they were battlers, and a lot of guys in that room you feel pretty comfortable going to war with.
The Cavaliers win 118-88. James scores 23 points, Smith scores 18 points and Thompson scores 16 points and 11 rebounds. Teague scores 17 points and Millsap scores 16 points for the Hawks. Cleveland wins East Series 4-0. James on NBA Finals:
I’m a guy who believes in unfinished business…I understood what these people were going through, the people here. Not only in Cleveland but Northeast Ohio and all over the world who love and bleed wine and gold. To be at this point tonight, it’s very emotional.
We’re in Cleveland. Nothing is easy here.
The Rockets win 128-115. Harden scores 45 points, Howard scores 14 points and 12 rebounds. Thompson scores 24 points, Curry scores 23 points and Green scores 21 points for the Warriors. Golden State leads West Finals 3-1. Coach McHale on James:
James had a phenomenal game.
Curry on concussion:
It was all minor stuff compared to how it looked. But I’ll get some good rest (Monday night) and be ready to go … since it happened to now, nothing has gotten worse.
Harden on Game 4:
I always want to take it out on my opponent in a good way. Just being aggressive, taking shots, getting to the basket, not really forcing anything and allowing the game to come to me.
Howard on possible game suspension:
I hope not. But there’s nothing I can do about it at this point. It’s never my intention to hurt anybody on the floor. My reaction was to try to get him off me, but I can’t react that way.
The Cavaliers win 114-111. James scores 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists, Dellavedova scores 17 points and Smith scores 17 points. Teague scores 30 points and Millsap scores 22 points for the Hawks. Cleveland leads East Finals 3-0. James on Game 3:
I gave everything I have.
On exhaustion colapse:
I’ve been better. I play to exhaustion. I give as much as I can give, and sometimes the body just shuts down…In overtime I asked to come out, but I actually had a second thought. I wouldn’t have felt right about the situation. It was mind over matter there for me. I’m playing through a lot but it doesn’t matter. If I’m putting on the uniform and I’m on the floor, I have to make things happen for our team. It’s that simple.
Coach Blatt on James:
He just wouldn’t let us lose.
Coach Budenholzer on Game 3 loss:
I’m very proud of the way our guys competed.
The Warriors win 115-80. Curry scores 40 points, Thompson scores 17 points and Green scores 17 points, 13 rebounds. Harden scores 17 points and Howard scores 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Rockets. Golden State leads West Finals 3-0. Coach Kerr on Curry:
He’s had a brilliant season. The shooting is hard to describe because I don’t think we’ve ever seen anybody shoot the ball the way Steph does off the dribble, off the catch.
Curry on Game 3:
We understand it’s a special moment, it’s just we’re wrapped up in our day to day grind of preparing for games and going out and exerting all the effort we need to make this story happen. So it’s kind of hard to remove yourself from those emotions.
Howard on Game 3 loss:
We just can’t quit on each other. We’ve come too far. We’ve been through too many battles to just allow it to end like tonight … we’ve just got to man up.
Bryant tells general manager Kupchak that the 2015-16 season will be his last season with the Lakers. Bryant is 36 years old, and will be entering his 20th season in the NBA. Kupchak:
I think first and foremost, he’s on the last year of a deal. There have been no discussions about anything going forward. I don’t think there will be. A year from now, if there’s something different to discuss, then it will be discussed then. I talk to him from time to time … and he is recovering. He’s running. He’s getting movement and strength in the shoulder. We expect a full recovery, but yeah, he’s much closer to the end than to the beginning.
Cavaliers win 94-82. James scores 30 points, 11 rebounds assists and Thompson gets 16 . Schroder scores 11 points for the Hawks. Cleveland leads East Finals 2-0. Coach Blatt on James:
How much does it help to have LeBron on your team?. Do I really have to answer that?
On his birthday wish:
Just a Cavs win. That’s all I’m asking for.
Coach Budenholzer on Game 2 loss:
In the playoffs, it takes more. It takes better execution, better screening. You’ve got to do things harder.
The Cavaliers win 97-89. James scores 31 points, Mozgov scores ten points and 11 rebounds. Teague scores 27 points, Horford scores 16 points, Millsap scores 13 points and Kent Bazemore scores ten points for the Hawks. Cleveland leads East Finals 1-0. Coach Blatt on Lebron:
When he gets hot. He gets smoking hot.
Coach Budenholzer on Carroll:
DeMarre is a complete player. He has a big impact at both ends of the court.
Once I start shooting. Everybody keeps telling me to keep shooting.
James on Carroll injuries:
We’re all a brotherhood. You don’t want anybody to get hurt like that.
The Warriors win 110-106. Curry scores 34 points, six rebounds and five assists and Green scores 13 points and 12 rebounds. Harden scores 28 points, Ariza scores 20 points and Smith scores 17 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets. Golden State leads West Finals 1-0. Coach Kerr on team:
It really stretches people out. Houston does the same thing. It was an interesting chess match, because they like to go small and we like to go small.
Harden on Game 1 loss:
You can’t give a really good shooting team easy layups and confidence. That’s what we did in the second quarter.
Coach McHale on Howard’s injuries:
Hopefully Dwight is healthy and we can play big. We didn’t have that option with Dwight out.
The Rockets win 113-100. Harden scores 31 points, Howard scores 16 points and 15 rebounds and Ariza scores 22 points. Griffin scores 27 points and Paul scores 26 points and 10 assists for the Clippers. Houston wins West Semifinals 4-3. Harden on Game 7:
It’s the ultimate confidence-booster. There’s only a handful of teams that’s done that. We fought back. We fought three really hard games and came away with it.
On West Semifinals Series:
When you’re down 19 on the road, it’s easy to give in and just say, ‘Maybe next year’. But I think the injuries throughout the entire year kind of made us fight through adversity no matter what. We always find a way to fight, and another case was being down 3-1.
Please, we can’t let them pull an us on us.
Griffin on Game 7 loss:
It’s disappointing. We were close, but close doesn’t really count. Almost doesn’t count. We were up 3-1 and didn’t put them away. We can’t look at anybody but ourselves.
The Hawks win 94-91. Carroll scores 25 points, Teague scores 20 points and Millsap scores 20 points. Beal scores 29 points for the Wizards. Atlanta wins East Semifinal Series 4-2. Korver on Game 6:
It went in and it’s just like, `You’ve got to be kidding me. That did NOT just happen’. I thought he got it off. I was getting ready for overtime. And then … you’re like, ‘Heeeeyyyy! All right! We’ll take it!’.
I was about to cry. I said, `Not again.’ … But the basketball gods were on our side.
I still feel, and I know our guys feel, we should have won this series.

These guys work their tails off every single day when you guys are not around. Yes, I’m a little bit surprised because of how we’ve handled the postseason so far. These are first-timers right here (Dellavedova and Thompson) as well as Kyrie and Kev before the injury. They want to be good, they want to be great, and every single day they prepare the right way.
I do everything for my team, do everything for my teammates. I want these guys to be able to feel this moment. That’s what I came back here for. I’ve got four guys that never made the postseason that played a huge role on this team.
Coach Thibodeau on Bulls:
Yeah. Until they tell me I’m not, I expect to be here. That’s the way I’m going to approach it.
The Rockets win 119-107. Howard scores 20 points and 21 rebounds and Harden scores 23 points. Paul scores 31 points and 11 assists, Griffin scores 28 points and Reddick scores 15 points for the Clippers. The West Semifinals Series is tied 3-3. Howard on Game 6:
We kept saying, `We’re not going to quit. We kept believing. We never gave up on each other.
Griffin on Game 6 loss:
We took our foot off the gas, stopped defending, a lot of things.
On Game 7:
It’s about who wants it more.
Coach Mc Hale:
That group just went out there and they just scrambled, they fought and they played their tails off on defense. They had a great sense about them that they were going to accomplish something.
The Hawks win 82-81. Horford 23 points and 11 rebounds. Beal scores 23 points, Pierce scores 11 points, Porter scores nine points and ten rebounds and Wall scores 15 points, seven assists and four steals for the Wizards. Atlanta leads East Semifinals Series 3-2. Horford on Game 5:
I wasn’t supposed to be involved in the play at all. When I saw the ball go up, I just ran in there.
Coach Budenholzer on Horford:
A heck of a play by Al.
Coach Wittman on Game 5 loss:
Hey, these guys are fighting. I love it. They made one more play than us.

It’s like wine. It gets better with time.
I think I said the first couple games, `Our defense was good enough, but it wasn’t championship defense. I was wrong. This is what it’s going to take.
Coach Joerger on Game 5 loss:
Everybody’s saying we couldn’t score because Tony Allen’s on the floor. We put up 78 without him.
The Cavaliers win 106-101. James scores 38 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists and Irving scores 25 points. Butler scores 29 points and Dunleavy scores 19 points for the Bulls. Cleveland leads East Semifinals 3-2. Irving on James:
I commend him for putting us on his back.
James on Game 5:
Yay. No turnovers! That was the first stat I was looking at after the game. I was trying to be efficient for my teammates and I was very efficient.
Gibson on ejection:
I was surprised (to be ejected). I really just tried to release my foot because as soon as I got up off the ground, I just felt somebody tugging on my leg.
Coach Thibodeau on James:
We were slow. He was quicker.
The Rockets win 124-103. Harden scores 26 points, 11 rebounds and ten assists, Howard scores 20 points and 15 rebounds. Griffin scores 30 points, 16 rebounds and Paul scores 22 points and 10 assists for the Clippers. Los Angeles leads West Semifinals Series 3-2. Harden on Game 5 win:
I’m all right. We won, so that’s all that matters.
Coach Rivers on Rockets:

This is win or go home and I’m pretty sure he wants this as bad as we all do and he showed that tonight.
The Warriors win 101-84. Curry scores 33 points, Green scores 16 points and ten rebounds, Thompson scores 15 points. Gasol scores 19 points and ten rebounds, Randolph scores 12 points and 11 rebounds and Conley scores 10 points for the Grizzlies. The West Semifinal Series is tied 2-2. Coach Kerr on Game 4 win:
Tonight we took a step towards understanding that sense of urgency and kind of competitiveness and physicality to the game. It was probably our most competitive effort, definitely of the series, but probably of the playoffs just in terms of understanding you got to play every second.
This series could have been close to over if we hadn’t come out like we were supposed to tonight. You know it’s never over until the end, but being down 3-1 going home is a pretty tough task, so 2-2 right now in a three-game series and we like our chances.
Coach Joerger on Memphis loss:
We lost our composure early in the first half, especially in the first quarter. We needed to keep that closer in the first quarter. We had a chance there. Our offense really struggled tonight, and it put our defense in a bad way.
Cavaliers win 86-84. James scores 25 points,Mozgov scores 15 points and Smith scores 13 points. Rose scores 31 points, Butler scores 19 points for the Bulls, The East Semifinals Series is tied 1-1. James on win shot:
I was supposed to take the ball out. I told Coach there was no way I’m taking the ball out unless I could shoot it over the backboard and go in. So I told him, Have somebody else take the ball out.’ The play that was drawn up, I scratched it. I just told Coach, Just give me the ball. We’re either going to go into overtime or I’m going to win it for us.
Rose on James:
There’s nothing you can do about it. He hit a great shot. He’s a hell of a player. We just have to make sure that if we’re in that position again, just make sure that we force him out a little bit more or make someone else get the ball.
I thought the last two (games) could have gone either way. They’re hard fought. They’re a great team.
Wizards win 103-101. Beal scores 17 points, Pierce scores 13 points. Teague scores 18 points, Schroder scores 18 points for the Hawks. Washington leads East Semifinals 2-1. Pierce on Game 3 victory:

This was a huge win for our franchise, a huge win for our team. The crowd was fantastic.
Curry on Game 3 loss:
I have to play better for us to win games, especially on the road. I hold myself to a high standard. I haven’t reached it yet. So looking forward to the challenge of getting that level in Game 4, setting the tone and (it) could be a different outcome.
Coach Kerr on Warriors:
They’re learning. It’s part of the process. You see teams go through this all the time in the playoffs. It’s the only way to figure it out, to go through the pain of losing a game like tonight.
The Bulls win 99-96. Rose scores 30 points, Butler scores 20 points. James scores 27 points and 14 assists for the Cavaliers. Chicago leads East Semifinals 2-1. Rose on Game 3 performance:
I’m just thankful and grateful that my teammates gave me the ball. They believed in me down the stretch. They kept getting me the ball, kept encouraging me to play the way that I usually play. And no, I did not call glass.
Butler on Game 3 win:
It was huge. We needed that. That’s what he does.
James on Game 3:
You follow the game plan, they make a shot – you live with it. It’s when you make mistakes during the game plan, those would be the ones that are hard to live with. I know it’s easy for me to say that. The shot was not made on me. The guy took a tough shot. Tip your hat to him.
On Noah hard foul:
I’m a father with three kids. It got very disrespectful. I’m OK with competing against Jo. I love the competitive nature, but we should leave it there. The disrespectful words that he said to me were uncalled for.

It was a blowout, but it’s still one game.

James on Game 2 comeback:
It was in my locker and I decided to give it a go. It was time for it to make a comeback.
On Cavaliers injuries:
We’re a little banged up, we’re short-handed, so I have to be aggressive. Even more aggressive than my usual self, and I was happy I was able to make a couple of plays to help our team win tonight.
Irving on James:
There wasn’t one possession where he wasn’t dominant. When he has that mindset, he’s the greatest player playing our game right now.
The Rockets win 115-109. Harden scores 32 points, Howard scores 24 points and 16 rebounds and Ariza scores 15 points and 13 rebounds. Griffin scores 34 points and 15 rebounds, Crawford scores 19 points and Jordan scores 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers. The West Semifinals Series ties 1-0.
Harden on Game 2 victory:
I knew my team was battling extremely hard and basically it was up to me to go out there and push us forward…We let Game 1 slip away and we didn’t want that feeling for Game 2. It’s going to be a tough two games in a row, but we’ve got our mojo now.
Coach Rivers on Game 2 loss:
We got out of the rhythm, offensively, and that’s where the game changed for us. We got stuck trying to go to Blake too much, and we forgot about the guys on the other side of the floor. That hurt us.
It definitely feels like we let one get away. We came here to win two. But we’ve got to protect home court now. We can’t hang our heads.
The Hawks win 106-90. Carroll scores 22 points, Horford scores 18 points and Millsap scores a double-double (18 points and 11 rebounds). Sessions scores 21 points, Beal scores 2o points and seven assists and Pierce scores 15 points for the Wizards. The East Semifinals are tied 1-1.

It’s dangerous, man. Oh, their best player is not playing, so they don’t have a chance. But they still have a very dangerous team.

Just try to push the team, just like John does. It wasn’t just me. Everybody tried to step up.

Tremendous heart. He gave us an extra element.
Gasol on Conley:
He said he got great looks out of one eye, so I’m very happy for him.

I thought we lost our poise tonight. We were in such a rush.

James on Game 1 loss:
We all just have to play better. I wasn’t that good tonight.

Derrick was making the right plays every time.
You can’t get wrapped up in it. We’re going to have to play a lot better in the next game.

Griffin on Paul:
Without Chris, everybody has to step up. But it’s not one person’s job, it’s everybody’s job. And if you look at the stat sheet tonight, it was everybody.
Barnes on Griffin:
He’s incredible. He gets in the middle of the field and kind of just picks people apart like Tom Brady. That’s like a grown man triple-double right there.
