Born in Liverpool
James Paul McCartney is the first child born to parents Mary – a nurse and midwife, and James – a cotton salesman and jazz pianist. He receives the middle name “Paul” to distinguish him from his father and grandfather who were both called “James”. When Paul is two his brother Michael is born. Both boys pass exams gaining them entrance into the best grammar school in Liverpool. Paul’s father gives him music lessons, and Paul eventually learns to plan the Spanish guitar, trumpet and piano. At age 14 Paul loses his mother to breast cancer complications.
