Paul McCartney

11 Mar, 1997

McCartney receives the highest honor bestowed upon English subjects by their queen – knighthood and the accompanying title of “Sir”. The knighthood is awarded in recognition of McCartney’s contribution to the revolution of pop music. No members of McCartney’s family attend the ceremony, nor do any of the Beatles. McCartney dedicates his knighthood to his former band mates – George Harrison, Ringo Starr and John Lennon – and to the people of Liverpool.
