Sings Star Trek theme
On the Late Late Show, Ferrell sings the Star Trek theme after mentioning that he liked to begin his stand-up routine in the nerdiest way possible.
I would start my act by singing the theme to Star Trek from beginning to end.
Drum-off on ‘Fallon’
Ferrell and Smith appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to put an end to their rivalry. The two wear matching outfits and speak as the other person in an interview with Fallon. Ferrell describes when he first heard of the “impostor”:
Yeah. I was jammin’. I was jammin’ with the Chili Peppers, with my guys. At our jamhouse. I’m like, ‘Flea, this is bull. I’m tired of not getting enough respect as Chad Smith.’ I’ll be honest, I’m a little high right now.
The two then engage in a drum-off (with Questlove acting as ghost drummer for Ferrell). The challenge was interrupted when Smith’s Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmates appeared for a rendition of (Don’t Fear) the Reaper.
Ron Burgundy interview
Manning is interviewed by Rod Burgundy (Ferrell).
You are one of the great quarterbacks…and yet you’ve done it all without a mustache. I’ll be honest with you, you look like a succulent baby lamb. Let’s face it all the great NFL quarterbacks have had mustaches…
‘The Project’ appearance
Ferrell appears on Australian news program The Project to interview Prime Minister Gillard. The debate includes jokes about Gillard’s marital status and partner Tim Mathieson, as well as a question about the actor’s split ends:
I suffer from horrible split ends. Would you have any advice for me because this hair’s terrible? It’s like horse hair and I’m at my wits end.
Gillard responds:
Will, I can give you some very clear advice, and I’m sure Tim would endorse it. You need to get yourself to a hairdresser straight away; you need to spend buckets and buckets of money on in-salon treatments and you need to buy everything that they recommend for you to take home.
‘Anchorman 2’ announcement
Ferrell appears on Conan to officially announce that the sequel to the 2004 comedy film, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is in the works. In complete character as Ron Burgundy, the actor enters the stage playing jazz flute and proceeds to throw some insults at O’Brien before making the announcement.
As of oh-nine-hundred hours Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for ‘Anchorman.’ It is official: There will be a sequel to ‘Anchorman’.
Man vs. Wild
Ferrell appears on a special episode of Man vs. Wild where he tackles the Arctic Circle with Bear Grylls. During the show, Ferrell descends a cliff in a “dead man’s anchor,” impersonates the host, and eats a reindeer’s eyeball.
I figured it would be pretty strenuous, pretty kind of intense. When you’re hanging from a ladder off a helicopter 600 feet in the air, that exceeds your expectation.
Saturday Night Live repertory debut
Ferrell makes his debut as an SNL repertory player after several guest star appearances. He hopes to help “rejuvenate” the show:
There are a lot of entertainment options on a Saturday night. I don’t think SNL was much of an option in the last two years. At least the people I hung out with didn’t watch it. Everyone said, ‘ “Saturday Night Live?” It’s bad.’ But it’s the type of show that always has the potential to regenerate itself and turn everything around.
Five other new rep players join the cast alongside four returnees.
