US court issues summons

A federal court in New York issues a summon against Modi for his alleged role in presiding over the 2002 Gujarat sectarian riots in which more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed, while he was the chief minister of the Gujarat state. The New York-based American Justice Centre, a non profit organisation, obtained the summons from the US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York in a suit filed with two survivors of what it called the “horrific and organized violence of Gujarat 2002”. The summon requires Modi to respond within 21 days after it is served.

Welcome to New York preview

Swift releases a 30-second preview for Welcome to New York.

I started the album with Welcome to New York because New York has been an important landscape and location for the story of my life in the last couple of years. It’s like an electric city, and I approached moving there with such wide-eyed optimism. I saw New York as a place of endless potential and possibilities, and you can hear that reflected in this music and in this song.

Hits back at Russian official

Williams says comments by the head of the Russian Tennis Federation referring to her and older sister Venus as “brothers” were bullying, sexist and racist, and that she supported the one-year suspension imposed by the WTA against the official. Shamil Tarpischev was also fined $25,000 for making the comments on Russian television. He also said the sisters were “scary” to look at.

I think the WTA did a great job of taking (the) initiative and taking immediate action to his comments.I thought they were very insensitive and extremely sexist as well as racist at the same time. I thought they were in a way bullying.

Cant wait to play in India

Federer will be in New Delhi between December 6th to 8th and will play for the Indian Aces in the IPTL, which is the brainchild of Indian tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi.

I’m so incredibly excited to be going to India. For me going to India is like going to South America, like I felt in my initial years. It feels unreal because you’ve wanted it to happen for so long, and then finally it’s happening.

Swayze plays Ace Johnson, a skater who indulges into a rivalry with Stan Nelson(Greg Bradford) which culminates in a contest, the winning prize for which is $1000. The two rivals later become friends. This comedy is directed by William A. Levey. Co-starring Scott Baio, Flip Wilson, Maureen McCormick and Katherine Kelly Lang.

A dancer-turned-actor is not viewed very well in this business. I kept it quiet at first, hoping it would turn into ‘actor with other talents.’ But I saw what dancing would and could do to me after my first movie came out. The reviews came in, and they were accolades, not for the movie, or for my acting talent, but just for the way I could move. I read those reviews and knew that’s what I was headed for: teen-idol status. So I turned down a four-picture deal at Columbia – turned all the offers down, in fact – and went back to acting classes.

Trainor releases the title track from her upcoming debut EP Title.

The songs on my EP have kind of the doo-wop feel, but they’re different lyrically.

Retires from tennis

Li Na, Asia’s only grand slam singles champion, announces her retirement from tennis on Friday, succumbing to the effect of long-term knee injuries.

The task of finally making a decision to hang up my racquet felt a lot more difficult than winning seven matches in a row in the Australian heat. It took me several agonizing months to finally come to the decision that my chronic injuries will never again let me be the tennis player that I can be. Walking away from the sport, effective immediately, is the right decision for me and my family.

The Corruptor

Wahlberg plays Danny Wallace, a detective who is secretly tasked by Internal Affairs to monitor Chen (Chow Yun-fat) for corruption. This action drama is directed by James Foley.

I can feel that he is a very active energy—full of energy boy, and he is very talented. You know he is a very famous rap singer and you can get rhythm from him. He’s very energized on the set. He gives you a lot of optimism. Spend time with him and you feel younger and younger everyday, says Chow.

The Big Hit

Wahlberg plays hitman Melvin Smiley, who undertakes a kidnapping job to payoff his second girlfriend’s debt in this comedy drama is directed by Che-Kirk Wong. Co-starring Lou Diamond Phillips, Christina Applegate, Bokeem Woodbine, Antonio Sabato, Jr., Avery Brooks, China Chow, lliott Gould, Lainie Kazan and Lela Rochon.

Well the funny thing about this movie is that this one cost about half of what it cost to make Boogie Nights. That’s is a huge surprise to most people ‘cuz it looks so big, like a real expensive film. Wong did an amazing job. All credit to him. I had finished Boogie Nights and I needed to do something that was a total 180 from that. When I read the script, the comedy aspect really got me. When I saw Kirk’s movie with Jackie Chan, I saw it was more about the acting than the action. That was impressive to me.

Wahlberg plays Leo Handler, an ex-con who struggles to make a clean life for himself, but his job in a Queens, New York subway rail repair yard embroils him in corruption and murder. This action drama is directed by James Gray. Co-starring Joaquin Phoenix, Charlize Theron, Ellen Burstyn and James Caan.

Mark and I blocked it out of ourselves. We wanted it to be an epic battle, falling down the stairs and out on to the street. We had elbow pads and knee pads, but on the first take Mark just grabbed me with his pinkie, flipped me into the air and I landed on my head. Man, did I have a bump. I was black and blue for days. But I sure as hell wasn’t gonna do any f-cking John Wayne-style punching. I wanted it to be sloppy and barbaric and painful, like I’m hugging the life out of this guy who’s my friend while I’m pounding at him, said Gray while describing a cinematic fight with Wahlberg.

Fear

Wahlberg plays David McCall, who falls in love with Nicole Walker (Reese Witherspoon). His tenderness turns to violence, as he stalks and terrorizes her and her friends and family. This psycho drama is directed by James Foley. Co-starring William Petersen, Alyssa Milano and Amy Brenneman.

I don’t know any serial killers or stalkers so I just tried to invent my own style of stalking. The whole idea was to try and make it as simple and basic as possible. I didn’t want to appear to be acting. The stereotypical bad guy is loud, obnoxious and crazy looking. My character is multi-dimensional, very nice in the beginning. You really couldn’t pinpoint what was going to happen or who was gonna do it. That’s what I liked about it. I didn’t want to exert myself too much, I just thought that he only did things because of what other people did, or mistakes that he made. It was all there on paper, it was just a matter of playing it out.

Four Brothers

Wahlberg plays Bobby Mercer, who along with his three brothers seek revenge of murder of their adoptive mother. This action drama is directed by John Singleton. Co-starring Tyrese Gibson, André Benjamin and Garrett Hedlund.

The opportunity to play that kind of guy, the opportunity to make a movie that I would actually run out to go see. As opposed to a lot of movies I’ve made where if I wasn’t in it I would probably wait until I caught it on a plane or in a hotel or something. So yeah, everything about it. I just thought that this was right up my wheelhouse, and if done the right way with the right guys, this could be a very special movie.

Wahlberg plays Elliot Moore, a high school science teacher who investigates mass suicides taking place In New York City’s Central Park. This thriller drama is directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Co-starring Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo and Betty Buckley.

I play a science teacher, definitely a part that people will be extremely surprised that I decided to play. He’s constantly reminding me of how I need to walk. No, that looks too tough, that looks too angry. You’re a science teacher, you know. But I love it.

Wahlberg plays Billy Taggart, an ex-cop who seeks redemption and revenge after being double-crossed and framed by a powerful person, the Mayor Nicholas Hostetler (Russell Crowe). This crime drama is directed by Allen Hughes. Co-starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jeffrey Wright, Barry Pepper.

I remember in a particular scene in the alley, I punched that particular stuntman and his head hit the wall. Then I went to punch him again but he slipped and I punched the brick wall. My hand swelled up like a balloon! But you want to make it real – you’ve seen the slick editing and choreographed fights before. How about we just put the camera there and let it happen? No sound effects, nothing.
