Scarlett Johansson interview

InterviewMusic Performance

Johansson appears on the The Late Show to promote her upcoming movie Avengers: Age Of Ultron. She talks about lover for Letterman and her first appearance on his show as a child.

Dave, I have to say, I am so incredibly honored to be on one of your very last shows…The first time I was on this show I was 13-years old, it was 1998 and I was so, so nervous, because for me – and still for me – coming on this show is like you’ve made it when you’re on Dave Letterman. That’s really the truth.

Rudd appears on The Late Show for promoting his movie Ant-Man. He talks about how he was a member of a Letterman fan club as a child.

About 30 years ago, when you first started the show, back when the [Kansas City] Royals were in the World Series, I joined the David Letterman fan club…What it included was a pin, a collapsible drinking cup, a sponge that – if you put in water – would grow, a back scratcher and a balloon.

Michael J. Fox interview

Fox appears on The Late Show to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease. He talks about his own struggle with Parkinson’s, and the hunt for a cure.

To be kind of corny about it, once you accept it, and you learn about it…. and realize you are in a position to do something about it, and to make a difference and to help, well then it’s just, like, quit your bitching and get on with it.

Tom Selleck interview

Selleck returns as a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman. He talks about his recent fashion shoot for GQ, and shares how he handles secret grudges on some Hollywood celebrities.

I don’t see any reason to hold a grudge. I mean, a lot of people make mistakes – we get out here, you know, we try and be reasonably entertaining and you’re pushing the envelope. Sometimes, you say stuff, and people have said stuff to me. And I only hold a grudge secretly.

Miracle performance

Letterman chokes up as he introduces the Foo Fighters performance on The Late Show with David Letterman. The Fighters perform Miracle, which Letterman reveals was playing when he and his young son learned how to ski.

Lo and behold, it’s me and it’s Harry coming down this mountain. The video is stunning because the kid couldn’t be cuter … and the music the guy chose to put underneath the ski video is the song you’re going to hear now from the Foo Fighters.

‘A real pioneer’

Letterman reacts to the passing of Rivers:

Here’s a woman, a real pioneer for other women looking for careers in stand-up comedy. And talk about guts—she would come out here and sit in this chair and say some things that were unbelievable, just where you would have to swallow pretty hard… but it was hilarious… the force of her comedy was overpowering.

Williams’ tribute

Letterman devotes 10-minutes to a tribute to Williams on his show. The two were close friends for nearly 40 years. Letterman:

Two things would happen, because Robin was on the program. One, I didn’t have to do anything; all I had to do was sit here and watch the machine. And, two, people would watch; if they knew Robin was on the show, the viewership would go up, because they wanted to see Robin. And, believe me, that wasn’t just true of television. I believe that was true of the kind of guy he was. People were drawn to him because of this electricity.

It teaches us a lot of the bad things but also of the good things and I suppose the strength the spirit of nature and I think that is what’s so revealing Solomon’s story that it speaks to all of us, cause it’s the depths of his soul and his humility and the way that he tells the story.

Stage 4 cancer

TV Appearance

Douglas announces on Letterman that he has stage four cancer.  He was diagnosed three weeks prior and completed his first round of treatment.

It had been bothering me for a while. In the early summer, I had a really sore throat … and I actually went through a litany of doctors and tests and they didn’t find anything…The percentages are very good. I would hate to say, but right now, it looks like it should be 80 percent, and with certain hospitals and everything, it does improve.
