People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine. But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me. She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life. In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past.

Fans petition casting
Fans of the 1989 cyberpunk manga Ghost in the Shell have been petitioning Scarlett’s casting as the Japanese cyborg heroine, Major Motoko Kusanagi, for a 2017 live-action film.
An online petition created by Julie Rodriguez has already amassed 38K signatures demanding DreamWorks Studios replace Scarlett with an Asian actress.
Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer
Marvel releases the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, the much anticipated sequel to The Avengers, early due to the influx of faux fan trailers. Although released a week early, Marvel took to twitter jokingly blaming the early release on a comic nemesis, Hydra.

Rose Dorothy is born

I’ve always worked with sci-fi since my first film. So it’s never very far. But I like going from Fifth Element to Joan of Arc and going from The Family to Lucy. So I like that. But what attracts me also very much as a director is the cast. To have Scarlett, who I really like — I’ve seen her on Broadway in her play. I’ve been there twice. I love Morgan Freeman. Johansson plays Lucy, a drug mule, in this science fiction thriller written and directed by Luc Besson. Lucy is accidentally injected with a drug that causes her to access more and more of her brain, turning her into something more than human. Co-starring Morgan Freeman.
There’s so much going on inside of her. She’s having all these profound changes and realizations and these sudden “ah-ha” moments. But you still want to watch the person and see that there’s an inner life happening there.

When I made Lost in Translation, I was 17, and now I’m 29…. I think I’ve been ‘in my early twenties’ for, like, over a decade! That’s a normal side effect of being a young actor. You’re captured in a certain time of your life, and it’s hard for people to move past that.

I think the film that we made is so different from the book that it probably wouldn’t have made any difference at all if I had read it. And I didn’t want to have any kind of impression of that at all because I had to work from the script. Over a few years that Jonathan Glazer and I were having these conversations and the core of the story became stronger and the purpose was clearer in his mind and the idea of the two of us collaborating became more of a reality. I really wanted to work with Jonathan Glazer and I would give that kind of commitment anyway if I really wanted to work with somebody. When I know I want to do something and I want it, I’ll get it or I’ll at least try. But I think part of that comes from having spent 20 years in the industry and still being that kid that wants the part. To me, I always feel like that if it doesn’t work out and I don’t get the part it’s because the director and I had different ideas and that makes sense to me. Under The Skin was always open and I didn’t have to convince Jonathan.

Hacker arrested
The police arrest Johansson’s hacker, Christopher Chaney, and charge him with 26 counts of computer hacking, identity theft, and wiretapping. He faces a maximum sentence of 121 years in federal prison. As police investigate Chaney under “Operation Hackerazzi,” they find that he is responsible for hacking into the personal accounts of others in the entertainment industry as well.
