The Pistons win 111-97 over Magic. Jackson scores a triple-double ( 26 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) for the team. Harris score 21 points for the Magic. Coach Van Gundy:
Reggie sort of had a tough start, but he started to attack (in the third quarter) and that really gets him going. When he’s playing laterally, east and west, he’s not as good. When he’s on the attack, he’s really good.
The Pistons win 105-95 against the Hawks. Drummond scores 22 points and 13 rebounds, Tolliver scores 13 points and ten rebounds. Sefolosha scores 19 points, Horford scores 16 points. Coach Budenholzer:
We wanted to really give the starting group with Jeff (Teague), Kyle (Korver), DeMarre (Carroll) and Paul (Millsap) a lot of reps together and a lot of time together.
I was a little under the weather, and I felt it before the game, but I tried to give the guys everything I could.
Coach Van Gundy:
Joel is always ready to give us great defense and John hadn’t played in weeks, but when we needed him tonight, he was there to get us through the game. Caron and Tayshaun, too. This is just a great group of veterans working with a young core.
The Hornets beat the Pistons 102-78. Williams scores 18 points, Walker scores 17 points. Meeks scores 15 points, Drummond scores 13 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons. Williams:
Guys still feel good and are staying positive. Coach is staying positive and encouraging guys who are playing through injuries. We’re really trying to push for the eighth and seventh spot and we think we can get there at the end of the day.
The start was one of our main priorities – to start fast and try to maintain it.
Coach Van Gundy:
We were bad, When you’re not ready to play, and it wasn’t just one player, it was everybody, it’s going to be a long night.
The Pistons win 89-88. Jackson scores 29 points, Drummond scores a double-double (11 points and 17 rebounds). Wade scores 24 points, Dragic scores 21 points and Whiteside scores a double-double (13 points and 12 rebounds) for the Heat. Coach Van Gundy:
Reggie really stepped up. We had a talk about him wanting to have the opportunity to be ‘the guy.’ Well, ‘the guy’ can’t be tired. I thought he…was not the least bit afraid to take the game on his shoulders tonight.
You gotta go. There’s no excuses, This is something I have been asking for my entire life, something I have always wanted. I want to be the man, and you have to go be special…Everything is kind of on my shoulders. We go as I go, so just continue to be aggressive, attack and make the right plays. You have to go chase it.
I really don’t remember a defensive stop other than the second-to-last play in the last five minutes. (Jackson) made every big play and we just couldn’t get a relief stop or a relief bucket down the stretch.
The Celtics win 113-103. Thomas scores 34 points, a season high for the player, and Crowder scores 17 points. For the Pistons, Drummond scores 22 points and 14 rebounds, Jackson scores 21 points and 15 assists, and Greg Monroe scores 19 points and ten rebounds. The Celtics eliminate Detroit from playoff contention. Coach Van Gundy on Thomas’ performance:
A lot of this game came down to the fact that we just couldn’t contain Isaiah Thomas. We couldn’t keep him out of the paint, we couldn’t stay with him on pick-and-rolls and when we tried to trap him, he just went around our bigs.
He was just great – he’s a really skilled player. He was playing with really skilled groups tonight and he was getting to the rim and getting his shots.
This was a big game for us, and we played within ourselves. We executed everything we needed to do, and they didn’t make many adjustments on the pick and roll. It was good.
Pistons win 116-77. Drummond scores a double-double (15 points and 19 rebounds) and Monroe scores 17 points. Vonleh scores a double-double (16 points and 12 rebounds) for the Hornets. Monroe on the team’s performance:
It’s crossed my mind, but I try to stay in the moment. This was a good win for me and my teammates.
Prince on the team’s tribute to his career:
To see that tribute, it pays that respect of what I’ve been able to accomplish. I’m very appreciative for it.
Clifford on eliminates from playoff contention:
There’s disappointment in not making the playoffs. We’ve got to put more into this game. With the injuries, we’re a little bit out-manned – that doesn’t mean we can’t win.
