Peck dies age 87 while asleep at his home in Los Angeles. The cause of his death is pneumonia. Family spokesperson:
He had just been getting older and more fragile. He wasn’t really ill. He just sort of ran his course and died of old age.

Sheila valued each of her children for their individual talents and was proud of them. Strict, loving, spontaneous and always game for fun, she was also a devout Christian who brought her children up to observe the Christian way of life, something she tried to demonstrate in her own relationships. She was open about Oscar’s disability and shared her experience in bringing Oscar up in order to encourage other parents of disabled children. Oscar has continued her legacy of helping others.

Aaliyah Haughton dies in plane crash age 22
Investigators find Aaliyah and eight others dead in a Bahamas plane crash. In route to Miami, the Cessna 402 crashes shortly after takeoff. The Cessna’s pilot and video crew get into an argument before takeoff over the weight of the equipment and passengers. The pilot admits the plane is overloaded but takes off anyway. Aaliyah dies instantly in the crash while one victim dies later in a Miami hospital. Emil Wilbekin, editor-in-chief of Vibe magazine:

Hafez al-Assad dies at 69
The Syrian president al-Assad dies in Damascus of a heart attack. He is survived by four of his five children. His dynastic guidelines pass succession to his son, Bashar al-Assad.
Hedy Lamarr dies at 86
Lamarr dies of natural causes at her home in Orlando Florida. Local police say her death is not suspicious.
Phil Hartman dies from shooting
Hartman dies with his wife in what appears to be a murder-suicide instigated by Mrs. Harman. Police finds their two children unharmed. Police:
We know for sure (Brynn Hartman) inflicted her own gunshot wound, and she apparently shot herself as the officers were in the house. Mr. Hartman had been dead for a while. He did not die at the same time that Mrs. Hartman apparently killed herself.
Frank Sinatra dies age 82
Sinatra dies age 82 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, after suffering a severe heart attack. His family is present with him at the time of his death.
Pol Pot dies age 72
Pot dies from heart failure. He suffers illness as he flees from those who wish to turn him in to the US government, only to die of natural causes. His wife and daughter are with him as he dies.

Riggs dies from prostate cancer age 77 at his home in Leucadia, Encinitas, California.
Fred West suicide age 53
West is found hanged in his jail cell, having made a ligature from his clothing despite being under close supervision by prison staff. He had been designated a “vulnerable” prisoner after psychiatric assessment. Joan Owen, 52, of Port Tennant, Swansea, the mother of Alison Chambers, 17, one of the victims, says:
This is the best news I’ve heard for a long time. After all the evil things he did, this must be the only good thing he ever did.
Menachem Mendel Schneerson dies age 90
Mendel Schneerson dies at 90 years old after a long illness. He has been hospitalized at at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, since March 10 after suffering his second stroke in two years. In his last letter to one of his chassidim he writes his last words:

Isaac Azimov dies at 72
Asimov dies at age 72 at New York University Hospital. At this time the cause of death is heart and kidney failure according to his brother Stanley. In 2004 Janet and Robyn Asimov reveal that Asimov’s death was caused by complications related to HIV. Asimov’s doctors had pushed the author to remain quiet about having contracted the illness from a blood transfusion during bypass surgery. Janet Asimov says of the discovery before a surgery:
The surgery was cancelled, and the doctors told us not to reveal Isaac’s HIV. I argued with the doctors privately about this secrecy, but they prevailed, even after Isaac died.

Meir Kahane shot and killed age 58
Kahane is shot and killed by an assassin following his delivery of a speech to a Jewish group at the New York Marriott East Side hotel in Manhattan. As he greets fans he is approached by a man from the crowd who shoots him at close range with a .357- caliber pistol. Although the assassin is attired as a religious Jew, he is actually an Egyptian-born Muslim American named El Sayyid Nosair.
