They couldn’t accept the fact that I might have been OK with it. I cried my eyes out and kicked and screamed and said, ‘Why?’ and all the things you do when you find out. A few days later I was fine but I still had to go to therapy. It was such a waste of time.

Lupin the III: The Castle Of Cagliostro

Directs0 Comments

Miyazaki’s cinematic debut is released. Based on the Lupin the 3rd TV show,  Lupin the III: The Castle Of Cagliostro follows the adventures of the title character as he entangles himself in the  affairs of the Duke Of Cagliostro.

So inside the castle I set myself a rule: always try to make the same space come up twice. If the character goes there once, then the character will go back to the same place again. It was like a game, and that was how I created the setting: “Here’s two lakes, a castle, there’s a Roman aqueduct…” And then I thought, “Yes, now I can make a film on this!” I just wish that I could have done it much, much better!

Roger Ver born in Silicon Valley

Birth0 Comments

Roger Ver is born and raised in Silicon Valley. He attends Valley Christian High School in San Jose.

In junior high he finds a copy of  Socialism by Ludwig von Mises, thinking it to be a pro-socialism book. This spurs an interest in libertarianism and through high school he reads economics books by authors like Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, Fredric Bastiat, Leonard Reed, Henry Hazlitt and Friedrich Hayek:

The more I read the more I realized how government control and regulation is making the world a poor place. I learnt that if something’s worth doing, then you don’t need the government forcing people to do it because they will do it on their own.

He is particularly influenced by the writing of Murray Rothbard:

I devoured all of Rothbard’s books and was persuaded by the logic of his arguments. I remember being almost afraid to read such powerful truths. In all my years of schooling, no one before Rothbard had ever pointed out that taxation is the moral equivalent of theft, and the military draft is the moral equivalent of kidnapping and slavery. It shattered my remaining hopes that the State could be morally justified. For the first time I saw them for the criminal band of thieves, slave masters, and murderers that they are. My life has never been the same since.

CM Punk born in Chicago

Birth0 Comments

Punk is born in Chicago, Illinois. Punk grows up in the area as an active fan of rock music, comic books and the Chicago Cubs. Both of his parents struggle with substance abuse through his early life.

I grew up with an alcoholic father. He never beat me, he never raised a hand against my mother or anything like that, but I’d seen enough stupid and ridiculous things between that, my mother and her prescription pills, and just hanging out with an older crowd when I was a kid, that I didn’t understand a lot of the fun to what partying was, so I just never did it. I didn’t understand waking up next to somebody you don’t remember going to bed with; I didn’t understand getting, you know, blackout drunk and not remembering the good times you have with your buddies; and I feel so strongly about it that I’ve just always been this way—it just made sense.

Ezekial Jackson born in Linden, Guyana

Birth0 Comments

Jackson (Rycklon Stephens) is born in Linden, Guyana. He grows up in a Christian household.

Without Christ I’d be nobody. I’m a Christian. For a long time, and it hasn’t been as much lately, but when I’d tweet a scripture I’d get replies saying “If there’s a God, why does he allow bad things to happen?” It’s funny that people who don’t believe in God always want God when bad things are happening, you know what I mean? For me, it’s my life. I have a standard in my house – God, my wife, my kids. Everything else comes after that.

The influences I had growing up I think comes out in the way I perform and maybe that’s what helps set me apart from some of the guys who grew up watching different types of wrestling. I appreciated all of it, but what originally caught my attention was that dirty wrasslin’ with those real characters and blood and Dick Murdoch and Buzz Saywer. That was the stuff that really grabbed me as a kid and really fell in love with.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Directs0 Comments

Spielberg directs this big budget science fiction film. After an encounter with a UFO, an engineer becomes psychically connected to a race of extraterrestrials who are about to visit earth. The film, which is notable for having a positive view of the potential of people encountering an alien race, rather than playing on the fearful aspects, stars Richard Dreyfuss and Teri Garr.

I really found my faith when I heard that the Government was opposed to the film. If NASA took the time to write me a 20-page letter, then I knew there must be something happening. I had wanted cooperation from them, but when they read the script they got very angry and felt that it was a film that would be dangerous. I felt they mainly wrote the letter because JAWS convinced so many people around the world that there were sharks in toilets and bathtubs, not just in the oceans and rivers. They were afraid the same kind of epidemic would happen with UFOs.

Dies in car crash

Death0 Comments

Damaged Car Being Inspected by PoliceBolan dies in a car crash in Barnes, London, on his way to his home in Richmond after a night out at a Mayfair restaurant. The 29-year-old singer was killed instantly when the car being driven by his girlfriend, Gloria Jones, leaves the road and hits a tree. Jones breaks her jaw and suffers from shock. The couple’s 20-month-old son was not in the car when they crashed.

Aram, who was following Bolan’s car, having been invited back to his house, recalls seeing the scene seconds after the crash:

As I came over the bridge with Richard [Jones (Gloria’s brother)] beside me, I can still in my mind see, so clearly, a purple car which looked like a little beetle. It was upright and it was smoking and there was a tiny glimmer of light from the moon, the night was so still. I said ‘we’ve got to get them out, this car might blow up’. I took my mother’s rug from the back of my car and put it on the ground. Some of the fans are comforted by the fact he was laid on a nice lady’s rug. I don’t think Richard thought Marc was dead, but I knew he was. Gloria was groaning and almost conscious. But Richard cried and said ‘please don’t leave me’.
