I Got the Feeling audition
Jackson performs I got the feeling written by James Brown, along with his brothers the Jacksons. He dances and sings during his this first audition for Motown Records CEO Berry Gordy. This is one of the major auditions of Jackson’s career.
Abbey Road rooftop concert
The Beatles (with Billy Preston), perform a rooftop concert on top of the Apple building on Savile Row in London. It is the last time The Beatles perform live. They play Get Back, Don’t Let Me Down, I’ve Got A Feeling, The One After 909 and Dig A Pony. Crowds of people gather below and watch from windows in nearby buildings. Lennon ended the performance by saying:
I’d like to say ‘Thank you’ on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.
Apples and Oranges performance
The band appear on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, performing Apples and Oranges. In a short interview at the end of the song Clark asks the members if they like American food and about their next stop in the US (SanFanscisco).
See Emily Play performance
The band appear on Top of the Pops, miming See Emily Play. The damaged recording was rediscovered in late 2009.
The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins
Nimoy releases the single The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s character from The Hobbit, for his album The Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy. Performing it on Malibu U, the appearance is the only known music video of the song.
Warsaw concert
The band performs their first concert behind the Iron Curtain at Stalin Palace in Warsaw, Poland. Among the songs performed during the set are Paint it Black, Lady Jane, and Satisfaction.
