Floyd Mayweather Jr, is an American boxer, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1977. Widely considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, he is undefeated as a professional (49-0) and is a five-division world champion. Mayweather won fifteen world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes (twice at welterweight).
Tickets will be on sale for the McGregor-Mayweather Press Tour event at the SSE Arena at Wembley, London, from June 11 at 12pm (noon). Tickets will be available online at this link. Tickets are free, but limited to a maximum of four per person. The event will take pace on July 14 at 5pm.
Davis confirms he will fight in the co-main event as part of the McGregor-Mayweather bout in August. His opponent has not been named.
I’m the co-main event. It feels great. Just having my hometown back me, Under Armour back me and Floyd Mayweather back me and now I’m on the undercard, it feels amazing….There’s a few names that they’ve [Mayweather Promotions] mentioned. And I believe that both of them will get knocked out.
As for McGregor’s chances against Mayweather:
I believe that Floyd will play with him [McGregor] and then knock him out.
White confirms that 30,000 tickets have been sold for the the McGregor-Mayweather press events at the Los Angeles and Brooklyn stops alone.
Staples Center is sold out, and by sold out, I mean we did tickets and there’s no more seats left. Barclays [Center] sold out. We had to get a bigger venue in Toronto, and we’re doing Wembley in England. It’s going to be crazy.
White says that he will be accompanying McGregor on every stop on the press tour, and says he’s not entirely sure how the whole scene is going to play out, especially with so many unpredictable characters involved. He also says that
It’s going to be a f-cking shitshow. You know that. Absolute shitshow. So, I don’t know. It’s going to be crazy…It’s going to be a hybrid of the boxing press conferences and UFC press conferences…. I think it’s going to be more like a boxing press conference than it is our press conferences. You know how mine are. No bullshit. We walk in, and we sit down and, ‘What’s up? Who has the first question,’ and we get it rolling. I think there’s going to be a lot more bullshit in this one…I’m going to sit there with a mic, and when you ask me a question I will answer it. I’m not going to get up and give any speeches or do anything like that. I think Conor and I will come in, Conor and I will sit down, and we’ll answer questions when asked questions. I think that the rest of the people that are going to come in – I think there’s going to be a lot of people that come in and talk and have speeches.
Mayweather petitions the U.S. Tax Court for an installment agreement to pay taxes from 2015, citing his fight with Conor McGregor as a “significant liquidity event” from which he intends to pay the remaining balance. Mayweather argues he’s too illiquid to immediately pay the taxes while the IRS has said that some of his assets could be converted into cash or that Mayweather could take out a loan to pay what he owes. Mayweather reportedly earned $220-230 million for defeating Manny Pacquiao in 2015. After he fights McGregor, Mayweather will have to pay taxes on a possible $400 million in earnings as well as cover his past IRS debts.
Mayweather Senior, who is training his son for his upcoming fight with McGregor, says McGregor will not win.
If Floyd stops him or not—it doesn’t make a difference for me. As long as Floyd beats the hell out of him. And that’s what I believe is gonna happen…Even if [Conor] goes the distance, [Floyd’s] gonna whoop his ass!
FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR HAS WARNING: I GOT A FEW PRESENTS FOR CONOR. HE WON’T BE ABLE TO SPELL AFTER.
Tour dates and venues are announced for McGregor-Mayweather’s world promotion tour. The tour will appear in Los Angeles’ Staples Center on July 10; Houston’s Toyota Center on July 11; Toronto’s Air Canada Center on July 12; New York’s Barclays Center on July 13; and London, at a venue to be announced, on July 14.
Wallace, a six-time All Ireland boxing champion who sparred with McGregor in Las Vegas for six weeks in preparation for the Nate Diaz rematch, says McGregor;s chances should not be written off:
Like a lot of people are writing him off but he has proved a lot of people wrong so far. Look he’s fighting Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of all time, but he has youth on his side, you never know what he’s going to do. He’s elusive, he’s very accurate when he punches, he doesn’t miss a lot. At the end of the day you never know what is going to happen in one of the biggest nights in boxing history. I know everybody thinks Mayweather is going to win but you just can’t write him off…He’s strong but it’s mostly the fact that he is so accurate, it’s more the crisp in the punch rather than the power. Like if [Mayweather] was caught flush with a left hand he would probably go down…In my heart I’d love to see him do it and for the whole of Ireland I’d love to see him doing it but it is a massive ask.
Ward urges McGregor to use MMA-style moves to gain an advantage over Mayweather.
I don’t think this is going to be as easy as people think…for Floyd Mayweather. I am a Floyd fan, Floyd’s a legend and he is going to take care of business, don’t get me wrong. But Floyd is 40 years old and McGregor is a lot younger, he is naturally bigger and, if he has nothing else, he has a big left hand – he has one hand that if he lands it can cause some trouble. Now I don’t think that he is going to land that shot but just the movements that Conor has, the awkward, martial arts type of movements, it’s going to take a few rounds for Floyd to kinda figure him out. Ultimately, I think he will, but I think it will be interesting early…[McGregor] is not going to end it early. I wouldn’t focus on the knockout because if he goes out there looking for the knockout, he could get knocked out. I wouldn’t totally abandon the martial arts moves, like I said, some of the awkward things he does. Obviously he can’t lift his legs, and that’s going to be a challenge in and of itself, to not kick Floyd or grapple Floyd like he would in an octagon, but be who you are. We are going to work on boxing, but be awkward, be as awkward as you can, make it ugly because if it’s a close fight where there is an argument and it’s the sixth or seventh round, it’s close, [people are asking] who’s winning, that’s a win for [McGregor].”
Andre Ward Says Mayweather-McGregor Will Go More Than One Round | First Take | June 30, 2017
In a preview of an upcoming interview with King. Khan says Mayweather will easily beat McGregor.
McGregor’s never had a boxing fight as a professional. That’s his first fight. He’s up against someone who is unbeaten in 49 fights…Being a boxing fight, it’s gonna be all Floyd. He’s gonna walk through him. He’s gonna make him miss…it’s gonna be a walk in the park for him.

Bradley says he was brought into McGregor’s camp after being recommended by Conor Wallace, the Northern Irish amateur boxer who was called upon to help McGregor prepare for his rematch with Nate Diaz. Wallace’s recommended Bradley’s because he is replicate the Mayweather style. Bradley:
People laugh when they hear me saying I can replicate Mayweather. I guess nobody can move like Floyd, but I’ve been studying everything about the guy for the last 13 years. I know what way he moves and I know how he moves into his punches. I know how he reacts to getting hit. I feel like I’m able to bring that in to help Conor as he prepares for this fight. When I’m competing, I don’t necessarily use Mayweather’s style, but I definitely use some of his tools. The step-back right hand and check left hook are two techniques I use a lot. And of course, I use some of his defensive tactics to stop me getting hit.
On McGregor’s boxing ability:
Conor is a very good boxer. He doesn’t move like any other boxer. He’s powerful, fast and light on his feet … He’s very good at getting in and out and connecting. He’s so quick on his feet it’s very hard to judge the distance with him. He’s so fast and unpredictable — that’s a very dangerous combination. I don’t think Mayweather has ever boxed anyone like that. He has this strange style and he can keep going at a serious pace for 12 rounds. He’s on his toes and he’s constantly keeping you guessing…I’ve got a black eye at the moment and I got that from him when he was wearing 16-ounce gloves. I don’t know if you’ve seen the photo that he uploaded onto his Instagram after our session. People are talking about his left hand and whether the power will be there with 10-ounce gloves — he lifted me off my feet with a right uppercut in 16 (ounce gloves)! That shot came out of nowhere. It was so fast and powerful. I can tell you now that those kinds of shots would drop boxers, and that was his right hand…I know he’ll give Floyd a hard fight. This will not be a walkover. I really think whoever puts more into their camp will win it. I know that Conor is putting in the work and that his confidence is through the roof. He’s going to be ready when fight night comes around.
Malignaggi says that he will will be part of the US leg of his training.
I was a little bit surprised, but at the same time it’s something exciting. You don’t have to make the wait. It’s cool…I look forward to having a healthy training camp with Conor. I was contacted for sparring…probably a little bit of my boxing knowledge, tactical knowledge… I have a speed boxing style. I was more of a speedster. While it’s almost impossible to mimic [Mayweather’s] style, you spar with guys who have fast hands and get used to the speed. They were looking for guys with speed and that counterpunching fast style.
He also talks about Mayweather;s strategy.
The trick to Mayweather is…Mayweather will adjust to you..If you come in with some sort of success in the early rounds. You have to be prepared to be able to be like Bruce Lee, to be ‘like water’ and to adjust. Because Mayweather will adjust and give you that right back…I don’t think Conor will have enough time to have a distinct game plan. He will have to figure out these three or four key weapons in his arsenal to use them, disguise them in various ways, to use them against Mayweather…Conor is best at range, so if he tries to become a rugged physical fighter, how much is it going to work? But does McGregor even know enough to hide the dirty stuff? Conor has good speed and good timing, he has to work on variations…If I had to predict to you…I think Floyd will fight this fight very aggressively. There’s a mean streak in Floyd. He may start taking it to him and getting aggresive.
Paulie Malignaggi: I Expect Mayweather To Fight McGregor 'Very Aggressively'
Axiom Films releases a promo video for McGregor-Mayweather.
One warrior put it to me like this: Most of the world is like sheep. they’re kind, gentle creatures that can only hurt each other by accident. Then there are wolves, the wolves will feed on the sheep. They are the sociopaths, they are the criminals. [The Warrior] wanders around, checks the perimeter every night. We’re talking about a creature that is capable of confronting and dealing with combat and sustaining themselves across the long haul. To be the one that is ready to respond to the threats when the time arrives.
After McGregor and Mayweather release training videos, fans debate the relative merits of each fighter. Mirror Online boxing expert Martin Domin says that fans should not read too much into the comparison.
Ignoring the fact for a moment that there will be no punch bags in the ring come August 26 (unless Conor McGregor really does take a beating), there is an enormous difference between the two workouts. Floyd Mayweather is hitting a floor-to-ceiling speed ball which is designed to improve a fighter’s hand-eye co-ordination. Surprisingly enough, it also looks good when filmed and posted on Instagram. McGregor on the other hand is using first an uppercut bag followed by a standard punch bag, and it’s fairly evident he is working on shot execution and placement rather than trying to dazzle anyone with his speed. If you truly believe McGregor couldn’t look good on a speedball, you’re in the wrong game.
Frampton talks about the McGregor-Mayweather fight:
I don’t think that the fight is bad for boxing. I think that if McGregor wins, then that’s bad for boxing. I don’t think he will. It’s an event – go and see it – it gets people talking about boxing. How can it be bad for boxing? You look at what’s happening now – It’s almost like any show that’s half decent has to be on pay-per-view, and you have to pay extra money to watch it… But I think this event – Mayweather and McGregor – it can’t be anything but good for boxing, unless Mcgregor wins, and then it’s bad because we all look like mugs.
Mayweather posts a video of himself showcasing his speed on the double end bag, with a message for those doubting him due to his age.
I know I’m not the same fighter I was 20 years ago, I’m not the same fighter I was 10 years ago… As a matter of fact, I’m not the same fighter I was 5 years ago, I’m just an old legend putting in work in 16 oz gloves.
Espinoza, the executive vice president of Showtime Sports, talks about the possibility of seeing a Superman punch by McGregor, an MMA technique that is legal in boxing against Mayweather.
That’s well within the rules. A back fist probably wouldn’t be, but there is a lot of different things that can be thrown to throw off timing. I can guarantee Floyd has never seen someone coming and throwing a Superman punch.
MCGREGOR CAN USE ONE MMA MOVE AGAINST MAYWEATHER THAT WILL BE LEGAL; ESPINOZA ADMITS CONCERN
White says the McGregor-Mayweather world media tour will only make one overseas stop, in London, and that a stop in Dublin will not be on the tour. According to reports, Mayweather wanted neutral locations for the world press tour and did not want to deal with the overwhelming crowd of supporters McGregor would get in his native Ireland.
Woodley talks about spending time with Mayweather at the Maxim 100 party, where Mayweather praised him as ‘the best fighter in the UFC’.
We were just talking about the fight with him and Conor. We did a video. And I said, ‘Conor’s gonna loooove me after this video!’…He sees what I’m doing. He said to me, ‘I’ve been watching your highlights, you got crazy hands, you knocking people out, I can show you one or two thing; how you can never get hit again in the Octagon’…Floyd is really down to earth. The thing I notice about him is that he is in a setting like that, he’s trying to make sure every person is ok…I haven’t really hung out about Conor McGregor…Tell me? My ‘UFC brother’ has he hung around with me…I’m not saying I’m going against boxing versus UFC. I respect Conor, he’s the boss. He made a crazy move. He’s gonna get paid. I respect him, but that don’t mean he’s gonna be coming to my kid’s birthday party.
When asked if Mayweather said who would win the fight:
He said. ‘Conor’s gonna be pissed when he finds out how much money I’m making.’
While preparing for his third professional boxing bout this weekend in Australia on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn bout, Conlan says he is still hoping to get on the McGregor-Mayweather undercard.
[Floyd]’s never going to win a talking shit match with Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor is on a different level when it comes to that — and that affects people. It’s hard to see how it goes because Floyd is almost unbeatable, well he has been unbeatable. Conor is Conor, so he’s going to come out and give it his all. I’m excited, I wished him good luck. I asked him to try and get me on the show but I haven’t heard back, so I don’t think it’s going to happen.
MICHAEL CONLAN – 'ITS CRAZY CONOR McGREGOR IS NOT A BOXER & HE'S GOT BIGGEST PAID DEBUT IN HISTORY'
I think Marc Goddard should be the referee. We’re already agreeing to boxing rules, boxing fight, boxing ring — everything is done boxing. So, how about an MMA referee that will understand the inside fighting that will go into this fight?
Pacquiao, who is currently preparing for his WBO welterweight championship fight against Jeff Horn, says the McGregor-Mayweather fight will be ‘boring,’ and that he will be watching the ‘real’ boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
McGregor has no chance in this fight. In fact, it could be very boring. There is no way he will be able to land a meaningful punch on Floyd. How could he? He has no professional experience in boxing. The real fight and the best fight is Golovkin versus Canelo. The best versus the best. That’s the fight I will be watching.
He also says he is interested in a rematch with Mayweather if he beats Horn.
If there’s a chance, why not? I’m willing. I know my body. I’m ready. I’m not underestimating [Horn]. I’m not taking him lightly. I’m working hard.
Kavanagh says he would like to see both Taylor and Conlan on the undercard of McGregor-Mayweather.
I’ve seen a lot of speculation and I think it would be crazy of the promoters not to put on the likes of Katie Taylor and Michael Conlan…That just seems like a no brainer to me. Why wouldn’t you have a big America vs Ireland? It would generate such interest.
WME-IMG, owners of the UFC, set a $10 million asking price for the title sponsor of the McGregor-Mayweather fight. The $10 million would nearly double boxing’s largest single-fight sponsorship, the $5.6 million that Tecate paid for Mayweather-Pacquiao in May 2015. The sponsoring company would get its logo at the center of the ring at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, its branding on ring girls, on two of the ropes and in the two nonfighter corners of the ring. The deal also includes sponsorship of the first minute of every round on the broadcast and $500,000 in tickets. For $5 million sponsors can buy one of the fighters’ corners that would include signage in that corner, sponsorship to the broadcast corner cam and $250,000 in tickets.
Malignaggi says McGregor’s team have asked him to spar with Conor in his prep to fight Mayweather.
I did get called to go to camp with McGregor… so I started working out a little bit. I’m working on the details. If it’s something that’s gonna be feasible, it’ll be cool, ’cause I think I’ll have some inside stuff to talk about on fight night. It’s interesting that they called me… I’ve announced my retirement [and] I did call him out [when he got his boxing license]. I think that shows the competitive spirit and the willingness to learn. It shows you how hungry he is, he put that pride aside. It makes me respect him a little bit more.
Conor McGregor To Spar Paulie Malignaggi (Former World Champ) To Help Prep For Floyd
Cormier talks about McGregor’s gift for promotion.
That’s why I say he’s the greatest promoter of all-time…This guy, he managed to get Floyd Mayweather to fight him. There are boxers in the world right now that are much more deserving of that mega-fight, in terms of credentials, but they could never get Floyd’s attention to make Floyd listen. Conor did that…Floyd’s always been the guy to have to carry the promotion every time he fought. And this time, I know he won’t because he knows that if he does his part, (and) Conor does his part, but if he wanted to, he could take a backseat. He doesn’t have to do it. He could sit back and let Conor do it, and they would still do massive numbers.
Guerrero, a southpaw who was beaten by Mayweather in May 2013, says Mayweather’s speed and quickness is not apparent on video.
Being a fight fan myself and watching MMA fights, I don’t think there is anybody nearly as fast as Floyd Mayweather in that sport. That’s a problem with everybody who gets in with Floyd Mayweather, dealing with his speed. From the outside looking in, it doesn’t look as fast as it is when he’s right in front of you. And Floyd’s reaction time, wow, it’s just beyond anything you might imagine. Look at myself being a lefty, Manny Pacquiao being probably the fastest lefty out there, we had great trouble dealing with Floyd’s speed. Most of his shots are reaction. He sees what you’re doing and he knows what you’re trying to do and when you take that step, his reactions are so quick that – Bam! – he catches you. That is so hard to deal with.
Guerrero also says Mayweather is able to tire opponents out because he makes them swing and miss more than most boxers.
Definitely, it’s less energy to land a punch than to miss a shot. When you slip a shot, that’s so important, because A) you’re not being hit, but B) it’s more tiring than it is to land something. I tell the young kids I work with, shadow boxing eight, nine or 10 rounds is tougher than hitting the bag. … Missing just takes so much out of you, and then a guy like Floyd, not only does he make you miss a lot of shots, but he’s countering you every time you miss a shot, picking and poking at you. It drains you and it starts to frustrate you.
During promotion for September’s middleweight fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, Hopkins proposes that fans get into the McGregor-Mayweather fight for free.
If you want to talk about a spectacle, a show, by all means spend $4,000-$5,000 on a ticket. Maybe they will give it to you for free and make a real statement of jealousy….Hold up, I’ve got a proposal. If this is so great and so good, and we know McGregor – I’m not his accountant but I’m pretty sure he don’t have to go out and put a sign in his hand and ask somebody to give him some money for food. And Mayweather, whose name is Money. How can your name be Money when you don’t have any? Give it to the fans free! You’re lights ain’t going to go off tomorrow. God knows they’re not going to take your car away – you’ve got 20 of them, right? So if you really want to box for the love of boxing, then I’ll tell you what to do. You want to make a big statement Dana White? Give it to them free.
However, when discussing Alvarez-Golovkin:
A fight and a boxing match of this magnitude in September, we know you have to pay for. You pay for what you get. Watch a real fight!
On The MMA Hour, Coach Kavanagh says McGregor’s training is proceeding well.
We have two more weeks in Ireland, then the guys will head to Las Vegas. We’ll then have six week in Vegas before the fight, but I watched the session today and said we would be ready in three weeks…We’ve always done best when everybody is just mocking the idea of an unknown Dublin guy saying he’s going to take on the whole UFC roster and win the belt. Those challenges seem to bind us even closer than we already are. I’m really seeing that spirit lit up in the team. It’s always there, but for whatever reason, because we’re being laughed at, because we’re being mocked, it’s making us even stronger.

Schwab announces the tour dates and cities for McGregor-Mayweather Heavy Lies The Crown promotional tour. The fighters will appear in Phoenix 7/20, Salt Lake city 7/21, Toronto, Canada 7/27, Milwaukee 7/28, Chicago 7/29, and Detroit 7/30.
Fury says that McGregor will land an early KO on Mayweather similar to McGregor’s 13-second takedown of Jose Aldo.
I think Conor McGregor will knock him out in the first 35 seconds, like he done to Jose Aldo…I think McGregor will do him in one round. Come on McGregor! It would be good for boxing if McGregor chinned him. It’s be great for the real people of the world.
WOW! 'THE GYPSY KING' TYSON FURY PREDICTS CONOR McGREGOR WILL KO FLOYD MAYWEATHER In 35 SECONDS!
Atlas, the boxing trainer and commentator, says McGregor’s MMA skills don’t necessarily translate into boxing skills.
It doesn’t figure to be competitive. You’ve got a guy that they’re gonna say he’s got a puncher’s chance, but he’s in there with a defensive genius. And they’re taking advantage of your imaginations. ‘Oh, he’s got a puncher’s chance.’ Guys like Maidana, Pacquiao, Canelo — they were better punches than McGregor and better fighters. They couldn’t hit him. They couldn’t hurt him. So, really a puncher’s chance? Those are words, those are words to sell the fight. But in reality, not really a puncher’s chance…At the end of the day, myself, most boxing people that have been around the business think it’s a caveman in there with a defensive genius. And usually cavemen don’t win those matches, because in this case they’re not allowed to bring a club. Even if he brought a club, you know what? There would be a lot of strikes. I don’t think that he’d be catching Floyd too easily with that…You got a guy, that yeah he’s a good striker. He might be one of the better strikers in the MMA world, I don’t know. I don’t rate him that way. But in the boxing world, he’s a ‘C’ class fighter.

Duran, a four-weight world boxing champion, gives his opinion on the McGregor-Mayweather fight.
Mayweather beats the guy, it will be a spectacle. A wrestler of that size won’t do anything to Mayweather. If McGregor is serious he will break both arms and legs of Mayweather. Mayweather will beat him. McGregor is a clown…The fight will not hurt boxing, but it will hurt mixed martial arts because you’re talking about a good world champion, and if that guy loses against Mayweather it should be for something.
Jones, who is part of Mayweather’s training camp, says sparring footage that shows McGregor struggling in the ring with mid-tier boxer Van Heerden could be part of an elaborate ploy.
I think I’ve seen that sparring. First of all, like I said, I looked at it, but to me it looked (like) it’s a possibility it could be staged. We don’t fall for that, we prepare for anything. Please believe me, I looked at it and I came up with my opinion that it could have been for real but it could have been staged. I don’t know. His style is a different style from Floyd. I don’t want nobody messing with Floyd. He may be more difficult than Floyd’s gonna be for him. Styles make fights. He may give him a different look inside this ring when he’s sparring him than what Floyd’s gonna give him. We don’t take none of that light…I looked it and after a while I watched the whole entirety of it, but I know that it could be staged and that don’t mean anything. We’re not gonna take that lightly. That don’t mean nothing to us. I looked at it, but it don’t mean anything. We’re gonna train like never before. I don’t think Floyd looked at it cause he don’t do that. We’re not worried about that, we don’t worry about that. When you look bad, it don’t matter to us because they could be staged.
Johnson, ex-UFC fighter and former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner, announces he has joined the McGregor camp.
GOD is so good to me!!! ITS OFFICIAL!!! IM TEAM MCGREGOR!!! Headed to Ireland to help out the legend himself Conor mcgregor for his upcoming bout against Floyd mayweather which is stated to be the biggest fight in combat sports history! I was fortunate enough to be apart of the biggest boxing fight in history when I helped manny pacquiao prepare against Floyd mayweather, now I’ll be apart of this mega fight which should surpass all records…ESCONDIDO stand up!!! I will give every ounce in me to make sure mcgregor is at his best so we can really make history!!!
Jones, who is Mayweather’s assistant trainer, says he has concerns about McGregor in the ring.
One way I can see the fight ending is Floyd outboxing him, beating the crap out of him. Another way I’m going to be concerned about is when Floyd gets to a point where he frustrates him too much, McGregor’s going to do something crazy. That’s the only thing I’m worried about. I would be more concerned about this fight because Floyd’s a little older now. He’s 40 years old. McGregor has crazy weird power, and he’s got weird shots from weird angles. I’m worried about that. But for my prediction in the fight, is Floyd either confusing him and frustrating him and stopping him in the later rounds, or Floyd outboxing him, or [McGregor] doing something stupid and losing the fight. That’s my prediction.
Floyd Mayweather's Trainer Approaching Conor McGregor Fight Like He's Mike Tyson or Pacquiao
White issues a warning to fans who may be fooled into thinking tickets are already on sale.
A fan told me he bought tix already. I want ALL fans to know that we have not even come up with a price for tix yet and tix ARE NOT for sale yet. Don’t get f-cked by These DIRTBALLS trying to sell tix already. When we announce tix on sale that’s when it’s real.
As part of their media tour his fight against Canelo Alvarez, which will take place three weeks before the McGregor-Mayweather bout, Golovkin talks about McGregor’s chances.
This is not a fight. My fight with Canelo is a fight. This is show. Conor with Floyd is show — business show or a funny show, or for somebody’s interest show, not for us. It’s not for boxing. This is not for boxing. This is for people, for business. My fight with Canelo, this is boxing. This is true fight. You know, I respect McGregor [as] a UFC fighter, [but] he’s not a boxer. He’s a good fighter, he’s not a boxer.
Hopkins says that Canelo vs Gennady Golovkin is a superior fight to Mayweather vs McGregor.
Conor who? People got a choice they can go for the fake news, which is Floyd Mayweather vs. what’s his name again? Come on. You got a first-class. legend Icon fighting who. And you want to pass up a canelo and triple G fight?. Are we kidding ourselves? You got a chance to get in a Ferrari but you choose the Pontiac?!?
Former UFC title contender Kenny Florian says McGregor has a chance to get to Mayweather, but his best weapon is most likely psychological.
I think honestly the best thing that Conor could do is what he does outside of the ring, outside of the cage, and that is get inside the head of Floyd Mayweather. Get him emotional, get him leaping in, that’s when Conor gets the knockouts. Everyone talks about the power of Conor, absolutely I’m sure he hits very hard, but he gets guys lunging in. He gets guys emotional. He gets them doing things they don’t normally do and that’s what he needs to do against Floyd. I don’t know if Floyd’s dealt with someone who talks trash like Conor McGregor and gets you emotional like Conor McGregor. The other thing he could do is try to get nasty. Get a little rough, get into the clinch, tire out those arms by doing maybe what Rocky Marciano used to do, which is beat up the arms a little bit, get those tired, clinch him up, try to tire him out. Do something unusual.
PaddyPower reports that 92 per cent of bets that have been placed in Ireland on the McGregor-Mayweather fight have been for McGregor to win. The unexpected support at the bookies has prompted Paddy Power to cut McGregor’s outsider odds from 13/2 to 4/1 in recent days:
Given the nature of the betting, we’d be left more battered and bruised than any of the Dubliner’s previous opponents should he upset the odds.
Bookies are also offering bets on whether Sinead O’Connor’s will sing The Foggy Dew (5-2) and whether McGregor will do the Billionaire Strut (1-2), if Mayweather will win in a first round KO (33-1), McGregor will be disqualified for kicking (10-1), and whether his next fight is with a bear (100-1), Hulk Hogan (500-1) or UFC lightweight title rivals Khabib Nurmagomedov (6-4) or Tony Ferguson (6-1).
In an article for The42, Coach Kavanagh gives his thoughts on the McGregor-Mayweather fight.
On one of my first trips to Las Vegas with Conor McGregor, probably back in 2014, I recall him mentioning the possibility of a fight against Floyd Mayweather. I stopped doubting him a long time ago at this stage, but I remember at the time laughing it off as nothing more than a novel idea that could never possibly become a reality. Now here we are and it’s just over nine weeks away…We’re in the midst of three good weeks of training here in Ireland, before departing for Las Vegas in mid-July. I believe there will be quite a large media world tour squeezed in there as well.
He talks about the mural:
