Breaks silence, posts about hitting ‘rock bottom’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Rousey posts a quote from JK Rowling’s 2008 Harvard commencement address. In that speech, Rowling said that, seven years after leaving college, she had:

Failed on an epic scale. An exceptionally short-lived marriage had imploded, and I was jobless, a lone parent, and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless.

It was only from then she was able to start working on Harry Potter.

Nunes: Rousey ‘has always been overrated’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Nunes says Rousey is overrated.

I don’t know how Ronda Rousey went too far in this division. Honest. I don’t know how those girls lost to Ronda Rousey. I knew since my first fight in UFC, that I can beat Ronda Rousey. That day was the day to prove to everybody that I could do it…She is [overrated] for sure.

Rousey’s mother wants to kill her coach

Makes Statement0 Comments

Rousey’s mother says Tarverdyan, her daughter’s coach, is the reason for her losses, and that she is not impressed with the way he uses Rousey to lure people to his gym. She has also told her daughter she will not keep quiet about this anymore.

I think Edmond is a terrible coach and I will say it publicly. I think he’s a terrible coach I think he hit the lottery when Ronda walked in, he knew she was winning before she ever met him. She probably won 99% of the Judo matches she ever fought in, she’d won the Junior worlds when she was 17. I would caution anyone from going there, and I think it’s bad he uses her to lure people in and the reason I tell everybody and I told Ronda I’m not going to be quiet about this anymore…[He’s] a piece of shit…I will tell you this every time I go into his gym he says what he used to say ‘How are you?’ and I say ‘How the f-ck do you think I am, I’m in your f-cking gym, I f-cking hate you’, Yes I hate him, I would run over him with my car if he wasn’t Ronda’s, I hate that guy he’s like the most worthless human being god ever put on this earth.

Jones: Rousey should ‘try again’

Makes Statement0 Comments

Jones, currently on a one year suspension for a failed drug test, says Rousey should pick herself up and try again.

My advice to Ronda would be to pick yourself up and try again.I think it’s important for Ronda to show her fans how great she truly is by displaying her courage and giving it another try. What she does next will truly determine her legacy. I really hope she chooses to be … unbroken. Her story doesn’t have to be over here. I also still believe she beats 90 (percent) of the division. Lots of ass kicking still to be done, lots of money to be made…Maybe she just needs to complement her coach with an MMA family. Maybe she should join one of the bigger MMA teams. … Being around other bad asses and constantly sharing your spotlight could be good for you (in) so many ways. They can improve on your humility.

Thanks fans, says she’ll take time to decide next move

Makes Statement0 Comments

Rousey thanks her fans.

I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me. Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes — even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly — it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda. I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.

Mother urges Rousey to retire

Makes Statement0 Comments

Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, says she would like to see her daughter retire, and has not changed her negative opinion on Rousey’s coach.

I think she’s sad and disappointed like anybody would be in the circumstances…I think making snap decisions like [retirement] that is probably not the best idea, so I don’t know, but I would like to see her retire. I would like to have seen her retire a long time ago. Who wants to see their kid get hit? She’s got a lot of talent in a lot of other things. She could do movies, writing, producing. She’s really really smart and beautiful. I told her that at the very beginning when she started this, I said you’re smart and beautiful, let the stupid people get punched in the face…I haven’t changed my opinion on her trainer.

White: Rousey built the UFC

Interview0 Comments

White talks about Rousey’s loss to Nunes.

I went backstage after and hung out with her for probably 45 minutes. I’ll tell you this: She’s in better spirits this time than after the Holly fight. She’s very competitive. She does not like to lose. She loves to win. She loves to do what she sets out to do. Tonight wasn’t her night. None of this would be here without Ronda Rousey. Ronda Rousey built this. She talked me into letting women come into the UFC, and it was the smartest thing that I’ve ever done. Regardless of whether she comes back, or she doesn’t come back, she’s a wnnier. She built this whole thing…[She] needs to take some time. Maybe she’ll [come back], we’ll see what happens.

Post-fight intervew

Interview0 Comments

Nunes is interviewed after her win over Rousey.

When I connect to her with my jab I knew she was going to go down…I trained for everything she bring today. If she come forward, try to  take me down, I’d be ready for everything… If she doesn’t know how to make changes to her game she’s not a real fighter.

Nunes defeats Rousey

Wins Sport Event0 Comments

Nunes retains the bantamweight championship, defeating Rousey in 48 seconds with a TKO.

I am dedicated fighter and I had my team behind me. All those guys have made me an amazing fighter and brought me onto another level. This is my moment. She had her time, she done her actress parts – thank you Ronda Rousey but right now I am the champion. I prepared my mind, body and spirit. I know they love Rousey but I was ready for this fight. I trained for this girl since my first fight in UFC. I am the best on the planet…I knew I was going to beat the shit out of Rousey like that.

RR: I think I did, but the funny thing is I couldn’t remember the last thing he said to me. I couldn’t remember if it was “goodbye’ or it was “get your clothes on?” ‘cos I was a little nudist, constantly running around the house naked…I hope it was “bye”.

White: Rousey ‘as good as I’ve seen her’

Makes Statement0 Comments

White says he is fine with giving Rousey a pass on promotion this time.

If you look at the amount of press that has been done by any fighter in the UFC history, Ronda smokes everybody by a long shot. This is the way she wanted it. The only thing she cares about right now is focusing on winning, She has done a lot of things for us. This is what she wanted and we gave it to her.

And that, to him, she is in excellent shape:

She is great. She is ready to roll, she is ready to fight, and it is all good. Everybody knows that Ronda is psychotically competitive. She is as good as I have ever seen her. She is in amazing shape, she is in great spirits. She is fired up. She is like the old Ronda again. She just had to deal with this thing the way she wanted to deal with it…all the greats throughout history, they’ve all lost. Muhammad Ali lost, Mike Tyson lost, you go through the list of all the greatest fighters who have ever lived, everybody has a loss. It is always interesting and exciting to see if they can overcome and come back from a devastating loss, like her’s was.
