WebMD cover
Swift appears on the cover of the November/December 2012 issue of WebMD magazine. She talks about being happy, relationships, and her album.
I’m really proud of the record, but I’m always nervous about everything. There’s a great deal of terror that fills my mind before I do anything, really. We’re talking before an album comes out, before a photo shoot, anytime I read my name in print. There’s a huge amount of pressure and responsibility because millions of people are going to potentially spend their hard-earned money on the album, and there’s a great responsibility for the critics who will write about it, and responsibility for the girl who is going through a breakup and needs a song about what she’s feeling, and responsibility for the girl who doesn’t feel good about herself and needs a song for that, too, and I worry about saying or doing the wrong thing.

I think that song really hit home with a lot of girls who had been through toxic relationships and had found their way to the other side of it. I’ve never looked out while singing a song during a concert to see so many girls crying.

Seacrest interviews Swift during On Air With Ryan Seacrest about her belief in soulmates.
There are times when I think there’s just one person for everyone and then there are times where I think that you have to have a few great loves. I’ve had a few great like muses. So, I don’t know if that’s the same as great loves or if that’s just a different category all together.

When I went in to make this record, I recorded the songs over a two-year period. Every time I would come up with a new song that sounded different or unique or new, compared to what I had to done before, I knew we were getting closer. What I wanted was an album that explored the edges and broke new ground. One of my big fears is people saying my songs are all starting to sound the same.

There’s just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak, and that will turn out to be what the next album is about. The only way that I can feel better about myself – pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone – is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity.
