Illegal pet import charges

Charged0 Comments

Heard is charged with two counts of charges of illegally importing her pet dogs, Pistol and Boo, into Australia, and one count of producing a false document according to the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions. Australia has strict quarantine regulations to prevent diseases such as rabies. Bringing pets into the country involves applying for a permit and quarantine on arrival of at least 10 days. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of 102,000 Australian dollars ($75,000). The false document charge carries a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of AU$10,200 ($7500). Agriculture Minister Joyce:

If we start letting movie stars — even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice — to come into our nation (with pets), then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody? It’s time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States…The law is the same for everybody. There is no preferential treatment here. You come into our nation, you have to abide biosecurity protocols

Heard is due to appear in court September 7.

3 Days to Kill

Heard plays Vivi Delay, a CIA assassin, in this action thriller directed by McG. Vivi recruits Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner), a CIA agent dying of cancer, for one last job in exchange for an experimental cancer drug. Co-starring Hailee Steinfeld and Connie Nielsen.

What I was attracted to about her was this idea that I could play with the suspension of reality. Vivi doesn’t live in the same world that we live in. She doesn’t even live in the same world that the rest of the characters live in. That heightened sense of reality, and the freedom that comes with that, drew me to her.

Heard plays Miss San Antonio, an undercover beauty pageant contestant, in this crime thriller directed by Robert Rodriguez. When Machete meets her again, she is Miss Texas and proceeds to doublecross him. Co-starring Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Sofia Vergara. Rodriguez on working with Heard:

I’ve always loved Amber Heard. I finally met with her. It was early on in the process, I haven’t usually even finished the script yet when I meet with people, … And I think I actually went to her as a possibility for the part Gaga ended up playing…. But I  met with her and she was just so cool, she’s just so badass. And she spoke some Spanish. I promised I would shoot her gorgeous.

Flare cover

Magazine Cover0 Comments

amber-heard-covers-flare-september-2013Heard appears on the cover of the September 2013 issue of Flare magazine. She talks about keeping her relationship with Johnny Depp private, her film Paranoia, and how she chooses a role.

[The script] doesn’t say that these characters are ‘sexy.’ I’m not picking them because of that. I take roles that are interesting, and scripts that have female characters with depth.

Paranoia

Heard plays Emma Jennings, Director of Marketing at a tech company, in this thriller directed by Robert Luketic. After Adam Cassidy is fired and then blackmailed by his boss into spying on Emma’s company, he uses her to gain entry. Co-starring Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, and Harrison Ford.

Part of why I like this character, Emma, is that she’s her own woman.  She’s independent.  She has a life outside of the relationship that she ends up being a part of.  I tend to like that in characters — a strength, an independence, a quality that sets them apart from their male counterparts, which is not the easiest thing to do in this business.

I play Six, who is a very, very smart, independent, fierce young woman, who is taken very seriously in her world.

The Rum Diary

Heard plays Chenault, an expatriate living in San Juan, in this dramedy directed by Bruce Robinson from the novel by Hunter S. Thompson. Chenault is engaged to Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart) until she meets Kemp (Johnny Depp) and falls for him instead. Co-starring Giovanni Ribisi and Richard Jenkins.

It’s a prestigious movie and it’s got a great, talented cast, so they wanted to make sure they had the right person for the role, but it was a torturous process. It was painful. I found out that they were making this movie and my heart fluttered. I remember thinking, “Oh, wouldn’t that be amazing,” but didn’t really consider it, in a real way, as a possibility. And then, six months later, I was on set. It was a weird ride.

The Playboy Club

Heard plays Maureen, a Playboy Bunny cocktail server at the Playboy Club, in this NBC drama from creator Chad Hodge. Maureen is the newest hire at the club and the most mysterious. Co-starring Eddie Cibrian and Laura Benanti.

Maureen has got a lot of secrets. She’s got a lot of skeletons in her closet. She’s running from something, at the same time she’s trying to find something. She has big things in her future, and a very, very dark past. Maureen, in her young life, has lived and been through enough, and survived enough, to have lived four lifetimes over. She’s an incredibly complex character, and one that’s going to surprise us, at every turn.

The Ward

Heard plays Kristen, a disturbed young woman, in this horror thriller directed by John Carpenter. After setting fire to a farmhouse, Kristen wakes up in a psychiatric institution and soon finds the institution to be haunted by evil ghosts. Co-starring Mamie Gummer. On comparing the film to other horror films:

There’s something nice and valuable and wonderful about the suspense and the classic horror that doesn’t just crutch on blood and the almost pornographic view of fear.

Drive Angry

Heard plays Piper, a small town waitress, in this crime fantasy directed by Patrick Lussier. When Milton (Nicolas Cage) stops at the diner where she works, he sabotages her car in order to fix it for her and get a ride in return. Co-starring William Fichtner and Billy Burke.

It’s one of the only movies where I actually get to kick some ass, but it’s surprisingly not too far from home. I mean, I’m from Texas and guns and fist fights and stuff are all part of the gig. Everything from the hot rod to the cowboy boots was close to home for me. I was happy.

When Stephanie’s friend Ellie goes missing on their trip, she grows to suspect there may be a serial killer in their midst. Co-starring Odette Annable and Karl Urban. Efron on casting Heard:

Amber was the first person to come on board the project. Because she is just so smart and is one of the most informed actresses that I know, having her play Stephanie was a great thing for us.

Heard plays Nikki, a sociopathic dental hygienist, in this dark comedy written by Suzanne Weinert and directed by John Inwood. When Alex (Heather Graham) joins her anger management group, they and fellow group member Stella (Jennifer Coolidge) team up to take revenge on the men who’ve done them wrong. Co-starring Sam Lloyd. Weinert on one of Heard’s scenes:

There’s a scene in the movie that’s based on something that kind of happened to me in a bar, where Amber Heard actually sets the guy in the bar on fire. That actually happened in a bar in New York on St. Patrick’s Day.

The Joneses

Heard plays Jenn Jones, a seemingly ideal teenage daughter, in this satirical comedy written and directed by Derrick Borte. Jenn is part of a four person marketing team posing as a perfect family, and their idyllic suburban life is actually a marketing campaign aimed at the surrounding upscale community. Jenn flirts with a neighborhood dad till she realizes it is she who’s being used and not the other way around. Co-starring David Duchovny, Demi Moore, and Ben Hollingsworth.

Jenn is a very conflicted girl. She’s tortured and she comes across as somebody who thinks she’s an adult, thinks she’s ready for adult relationships and puts on a front. But she’s alone and she has an attitude that makes her snappy and cheeky and aggressive, and, like most young women, she has a deep-seated vulnerability.

The Stepfather

Heard plays Kelly Porter, Michael Harding’s girlfriend, in this horror thriller directed by Nelson McCormick. When Michael returns home from military school to find his mother engaged, his suspicions arise as Kelly tries keeping him grounded.  Co-starring Penn Badgley, Dylan Walsh, and Sela Ward. On making horror films:

I always really have a good time making thrillers and horror films as a way of causing this like lightness about….I mean there’s like a subsequent lightness to making these kinds of films because you can never take yourself too seriously. I mean, when you’re running from the killer one minute and then having coffee with him the next, you kind of have to laugh at it all.
