Cast in ‘By the Sea’

Casting0 Comments

Jolie and Pitt are set to share the screen once again in By the Sea. The upcoming dramatic film is written and directed by Jolie, who is also co-producing with Pitt. It will be the couple’s first time together in film since 2005, when they co-starred in Mr. & Mrs. Smith

It’s not a big movie, it’s not an action movie. It’s the kind of movie we love but aren’t often cast in. It’s a very experimental, independent-type film where we get to be actors together and be really raw, open, try things. I am very happy to continue my relationship with [Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley] and the entire Universal team as I finish Unbroken and begin work on By the Sea. They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker.

It’s very peaceful and the antithesis of the drive, the want, the need to get ahead indicative of life in Hollywood. I’m instantly reminded what quiet sounds like.

World War Z

Film Appearance0 Comments

Pitt plays Gerry Lane in this sci-fi action drama directed by Marc Forster. When Lane, a retired U.N. investigator, learns that a highly contagious virus is transforming those who contract it into rampaging maniacs, and that legions of the infected are growing on all continents, he agrees to join his former colleagues in discovering the source of the plague so that his family will be guaranteed safety aboard a ship in the Atlantic Ocean. Co-starring Mireille Enos and Daniella Kertesz. Forrester:

It’s pretty amazing. He’s an iconic actor. He was a great collaborator. I really enjoyed how he handles being an actor on the set, working with the director, and listening. On the other hand once the cameras start rolling he puts on his producer’s hat and he’s able to do both. It’s very impressive.

brad-pitt-covers-vanity-fair-june-2013Pitt appears on the cover of the June 2013 issue of Vanity Fair magazine. World War Z screenwriter, Damon Lindelof talks about Pitt.

He took me through how excited he was when he read the book, what was exciting for him, the geopolitical aspect of it. But when we started working on the script, a lot of that stuff had to fall away for the story to come together. We started shooting the thing before we locked down how it was going to end up, and it didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to.

I always thought that if I wanted to do a family, I wanted to do it big. I wanted there to be chaos in the house… there’s constant chatter in our house, whether it’s giggling or screaming or crying or banging. I love it. I love it. I love it. I hate it when they’re gone. I hate it. Maybe it’s nice to be in a hotel room for a day – ‘Oh, nice, I can finally read a paper.’ But then, by the next day, I miss that cacophony, all that life.

Pitt talks about being a drifter in his younger days before he made it in Hollywood:

I’d get so far and then want to do something else. I mean, I’m two credits short of graduating college. Two credits. All I had to do was write a paper. What kind of guy is that? That guy scares me — the guy who always leaves a little on his plate. For a long time, I thought I did too much damage — drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing.

Killing Them Softly

In this thriller, directed by Andrew Dominik, Pitt plays Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that occurs during a high stakes, mob-protected, poker game. Co-starring Ray Liotta and Richard Jenkins.

We were certainly at the apex of the Mortgage loans debacle, people were losing homes right and left. It was at the forefront of the newspapers, as the economy still is. But this commentary and the way it’s done in this film where you believe you’re watching a gangster film, or I felt like I was reading a gangster film, and then it wasn’t until the end when it coalesced for me as far as maybe what direction the film is pointing to overall.

Moneyball

Film Appearance0 Comments

Pitt stars in the  film adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book, playing the role of Billy Beane, a former pro baseball player who becomes the general manager of the struggling Oakland Athletics. Beane uses Yale Economics graduate Peter Brand’s (Jonah Hill) statistical methods to assemble a team of undervalued players that leads the team to a 20-game winning streak. Also starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Chris Pratt.

The main character is a guy who’s been devalued by the sport and is playing what he called an unfair game. And they go up against conventional wisdom and get called heretics in the process. At the end of the day this guy who’s trying to win games is really trying to find his own values. Come on, man, that’s good stuff.

New York cover

brad-pitt-jonah-hill-nymagPitt and Hill appear on the cover of a August 2011 issue of New York magazine. Pitt talks about why he became obsessed with the story and working with Hill.

Jonah’s a revelation in this thing – he’s a study in reserve. I think the most interesting work that’s been going on in the last couple of years is what the comedy guys have been doing. Guys like Jonah and Russell Brand and [Seth] Rogen and a few others … they picked up on an irreverence that started with Adam Sandler and continued with Will Ferrell, but they’ve been grounding it in a kind of pathos and humanity. I find it really strong work.

No, you can’t talk on the phone! Do you want the guy next to you to hear your entire conversation? That’s why you should only text in the bathroom. Just be sure you don’t hit the wrong button and end up putting a photo of your junk on Twitter. Trust me, you don’t want those followers.
