Barea:

We’re going to fight. “We’re not going to quit. We’ve got to go to Houston, and we’ve got to bring it back to Dallas.

Coach Carlisle:

It’s a big play. When you’re at home, you’ve got to keep the energy up, you’ve got to keep the aggression up and you’ve got to do it in a way that’s clean. It was a hard foul. There was no intent to hurt anybody.

Tonight wasn’t my night to score. I was OK with that. But the one thing that I can always control is the paint and just try to get every rebound.

Nowitzki:

It was an up-and-down game, shot-making and play-making all over the place. This ranks up there with the toughest playoffs losses I’ve had in my long playoff career.

Coach McHale:

It was a hell of a game if you like offense. If you like defense, maybe not so much.

Nowitzki on Maverick’s loss:

You’ve got to give the other guys credit. Obviously, we were paying a lot of attention to James, but they made some plays off the pick-and-rolls. It’s just too easy.

Brewer:

It’s all about Game 1. You have to get Game 1, especially when you have homecourt advantage. For us, it was big to get a win. We got a win, and now we’ve got to get Game 2.

Chandler on Rockets playoff game:

We have a tough task ahead of us.

Aldridge:

You always want to win your last game or your last few games, but we’ve had guys out. I think guys just have to be ready to go now.

Jazz 109-92 Mavericks

Match Report0 Comments

The Jazz win 109-92. Cotton scores 21 points, Gobert scores a double-double (20 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks and three assists and a steal). For the Mavericks Barea scores 18 points, Villanueva scores 15 points and Stoudmire scores 14 points. Coach Synder on Jazz’s performance:

When you’ve got a group of guys that works as hard and is as committed as our group has been. It’s nice to see some of those guys get an opportunity to play. We did have a chance in these last two games to actually see those young men and give them a chance to play. When players play hard, it’s easy to play them.

Cotton:

Opportunities like this don’t come along too often. And I wanted to go out there and make the most of this opportunity.

Coach Carslisle:

In the end we gave up too many rebounds and we had too many turnovers. Those were all possession plays and that stuff all added up and it hurt us.

Match Report0 Comments

The Warriors win 123-111. Curry scores 11 points, Thompson scores 21 points. Nowiztki scores 18 points and Chandler has 13 rebounds for the Mavericks. Coach Kerr on Warriors record:

Great scene in there, and I wasn’t really thinking about the significance of the record. Those guys were. They presented me the ball, and how lucky am I to coach these guys in my first year? Ridiculous.

Coach Carlisle on Dallas’ consecutive loses:

We don’t think it’s serious.

Igoudala on Golden State reserves performance:

We’ve got a thirsty bench. Really thirsty. I don’t know if there’s enough water.

Livingston on flagrant foul in Nowitzki:

He kind of sat back to create space with his lower area, and it was just bad timing. Eleven years in the league, I haven’t had a dirty play. It looked worse than it actually was.

Having ‘Big Fella’ back today kind of helped us out a little bit, We’ve got to get his rhythm going ’cause we’re going to need him in the postseason.

Howard on knee protection:

There was a point in the game where I got kneed in my knee, but gotta go back to the Hakeem knee pads now, The most important thing is for me to stay healthy and kind of get into a rhythm for these last couple of games, then in the playoffs, really stride out.

Chandler:

I feel like in the second half we slowed our tempo down. I think we had them on their heels in the first half.

Mavericks 135-131 Thunders

It was a great basketball game. Every once in a while, you stand over there and you say, ‘This is an unbelievable game to be a part of,’ and it was. The extreme momentum swings back and forth – the shot making was breathtaking.

Kanter:

I think we just got beat on a lot of pick-and-rolls, and I think we just have to work on it.

Parsons:

Being patient and staying aggressive and just trying to make some big plays down the stretch for our team. We all know how important this game was. We needed this win in a bad way.

‘We don’t play hard all the time. And that’s a problem.’

Press Conference0 Comments

After the Mavericks’ loss to the Phoenix Suns, Carlisle rips into his team. He said the team didn’t show up in the first half of the game and that was flat-out embarrassing. The Mavs are 8-8 since the All-Star break. Seven of those losses have been decided by ten or more points.

This is a Dallas Mavericks hard-play problem, all right? We don’t play hard all the time. And that’s a problem…It’s pretty clear that’s where our inconsistency is, and we’ve got to get better. We’ve got to be a more together team. I believe that we can do it. We did it in the second half, but it’s work. It takes effort. It takes effort in the locker room, it takes sacrifice, and we’ve got to be willing to do those things.

Suspended one game

The Mavericks suspend Rondo for one game following a shouting match between him and his coach over play-calling responsibilities. Coach Rick Carlisle:

The events of last night are now in the past and we’ve got to move forward. I need to say this very clearly: He is an extremely important part of our team. Our efforts to get to the highest possible level largely hinge on him playing and playing well with him. He needs to play well with us, and we need to play well with him. It’s a two-way street.

The incident last night was born in large part out of poor communication between him and I. That’s on both of us. We had a long talk about the situation today, and we both agreed that we need to communicate more frequently. We need to work on the solution for making his stint as a Dallas Maverick the most successful one possible. We’re looking at 23 games here. Right now, this is a critical time for us.

Cameras to give ‘crazy’ views of Mavs games

Cuban says the American Airlines Center and freeD (Free Dimensional Video) have spent six weeks installing high-res cameras in the AAC roof to be deployed as soon as the Lakers-Mavs game on Nov. 21 that will give ‘crazy’ views of games. It will allow any video image to be frozen and turned 360 degrees, giving fans seeing the images on the AAC videoboard and viewers watching Fox Sports Southwest telecasts unique views of the game. The technology has already been used in the NFL and in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. The software can take a single byte and transform it into views. Cuban:

For example, right at the jump ball, what does Tyson (Chandler) see? It literally recreates that perspective. If the ball goes out of bounds and you want to see who touches it, you’ll be able to spin the whole thing and look from any angle. The secret sauce is it converts (the high-resolution video) to actual data. And the double secret sauce is from that data, you can recreate any of the visuals. So from this, that is recreated into data. From using the software, you can look at it from any angle.

The Mavs will initially be the only team with the technology on videoboard and replays. Other teams will be able to license it for videoboard and local TV use but will need to pay money. NBA replay officials in Secaucus, N.J., will have access to the Fox Southewest feeds and will be able to use the technology to confirm or reverse calls by the ref.

Microchips, sleep-monitoring watches

Cuban and Mavs management introduce tracking devices during training, and Readiband sleep monitoring watches, among other health technology for the Mavs. Athletic performance director Jeremy Holsopple:

We are constantly beta-testing several technologies.

Cuban has invested in Australia-based Catapult Sports, which produces what it says is the first bio-analytics platform, a beeper-sized device that monitors and assesses real-time data on accelerations, decelerations, changes of direction and jumping to monitor training loads. The Mavs use the device along with about a third of NBA teams and half of the teams in the NFL, including the Cowboys. Cuban:

Anything that makes us smarter about our players’ health is a win for us

It feels good, we obviously value him very highly. We think he’s going to contribute a lot.”

Cuban:

I looked at all the main guys that were young that we thought would be available and we loved his game, we liked him the best of all the free agents and that was point one.

This is helpful to us, not just to me but to us, just to be able to see where our team can go and what we can become, and I think that’s the biggest takeaway from tonight

Mavericks guard Terry:

I think they found something in Lin, and they’re starting to piece together a team that can beat anyone
