Philip Seymour Hoffman dies at 46
Hoffman is found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his Manhattan apartment by a friend, screenwriter David Katz. He is survived by his parents, three siblings, his partner, and three children. Katz speaks of Hoffman’s passing.
I saw him last week, and he was clean and sober, his old self. I really thought this chapter was over.
Russell Johnson dies at 89
Johnson dies of natural causes at his home in Washington. Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann in Gilligan’s Island:

Cassandra Lynn Hensley dies at 34
A friend of Hensley finds her floating in the bath tub and immediately calls police, reporting a possible overdose. When paramedics arrive they cannot revive her. Foul play is not suspected. Police say:
The cause of death concerning Cassandra Lynn has been deferred. It will take three months before a final cause will be determined. More tests have to be done. This is the normal turn around time, especially when the cause of death may be the result of an overdose.
Ariel Sharon dies at 85
Sharon dies at the Sheba Medical Center in the Tel Aviv suburb of Tel Hashomer after spending the last eight years in a coma. The cause of death is heart failure. President Shimon Peres says Sharon was:
an exceptional man and an exceptional commander who moved his people and loved them and the people loved him
Patient Zero dies
Patient Zero, a two-year-old boy dies a few days after falling ill in a village in Guéckédou, a village in southeastern Guinea that borders Sierra Leone and Liberia. A week later, the virus kils the boy’s mother, then his three-year-old sister, then his grandmother. All have symptoms of the virus, including fever, vomiting and diarrhea, but at the time, no one knew what had made them ill. Two mourners at the grandmother’s funeral take the virus home to their village. A health worker carries it to another village, where he dies, as does his doctor. They both infect relatives from other towns. WHO releases the chart of infection in August 2014.
Walker, Rodas die in car crash
Moments after Walker leaves an event for Walker’s charity Reach Out Worldwide, Rodas crashes their 2005 Porsche Carrera GT into a concrete light pole and trees on Hercules Street, LA. Both men are killed and their bodies are burned beyond recognition. The crash is visible from the event, and some of Walker’s childhood friends attempt to release his body from the car, but are turned back by police.
Lee Thompson Young dies at 29
Young is found dead in his apartment by police, after missing a call on the production set and his manager, Jonathan Baruch, requested a welfare check.

Albert Murray dies at 97
Murray dies at his home in Harlem in his sleep. A family spokesman and executor of Murray’s estate, confirms the death.
Killed at shooting range
Kyle is killed by Routh on a Texas gun range. Routh reportedly suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant:
Apparently Mr. Kyle works with people that are suffering from some issues that have been in the military and this shooter is possibly one of those people, that he had taken out to the range to mentor, to visit with, to help him, you know, that’s all I can tell you. Kind of have an idea that maybe that’s why they were at the range, for some type of therapy that Mr. Kyle assists people with, and I don’t know if it’s called shooting therapy. I don’t have any idea but that’s what little bit of information that we can gather so far.
Conrad Bain dies at 89
Bain dies at the age of 89 in a retirement home in Livermore, CA from natural causes. Bain’s daughter Jennifer says:
He was an amazing person. He was a lot like Mr. Drummond, but much more interesting in real life. He was an amazing father.
Aaron Swartz commits suicide age 26
Swartz body is found by his girlfriend at his home in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn at around 9.30am. He was 26. Swartz’ attorney confirms in an email to The Tech blog.

Aaron has been depressed about his case/upcoming trial, but we had no idea what he was going through was this painful. Aaron was a terrific young man. He contributed a lot to the world in his short life and I regret the loss of all the things he had yet to accomplish. As you can imagine, we all miss him dearly. The grief is unfathomable.
Gregory Faull’s body found
Faull’s body is found. He has been shot in the back in the head in his home on Ambergris Caye, about 300 yards from McAfee’s home.
Michael Clarke Duncan dies age 54
Duncan dies age 54 at Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Los Angeles. The cause of his death is complications arising out of heart attack. His fiancé’s spokesperson:

Whitney Houston dies at 48
Houston is last seen alive by her personal assistant at 3pm.. At 3:43 pm a 911 call by a security officer of the Beverly Hilton informs police that a woman is facedown in the tub. Houston has drowned in the bathtub. A small spoon with a white crystal like substance in it and a rolled-up piece of white paper are found in the bathroom where Houston died. Such items are used to snort cocaine. Houston’s sister in law, Pat Houston stated that she was concerned with Houston’s behavior two nights before but she didn’t think Houston was abusing drugs in her final days. Police later discovered that Houston had signs of drug use in her body. Police:
There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent at this time. To me, a sudden drop-off in the Xanax level, a drop-off in your alcohol consumption, add cocaine, that’s a recipe for a seizure. Somebody who’s now upside down in a bathtub could easily seize and drown.
Houston is survived by her daughter Bobbi Kristina by ex husband Bobby Brown.
Dies at 56
Jobs passes away surrounded by his loving family. He had been ill for a number of years suffering from pancreatic cancer and was 56 years old. Apples board of directors say:

Randy Savage dead at 58
Savage dies in a car accident in Seminole, Florida, at age 58. He loses control of his Jeep after suffering a heart attack and hits a tree. WWE releases statement.

Dan Gordon-Levitt dies at 36
Gordon-Levitt dies from an alleged drug overdose. His unconscious body was discovered in the early hours of the morning and taken to a nearby hospital, where he is pronounced dead. The two brothers were co-founders of the multi-media collaborative community HitRECord Productions, which they promoted at Sundance in January. Known as “Burning Dan”, he was a Flow Arts teacher, fire dancer, and photographer. The actor’s brother, Joseph, writes:
