McMahon needed an opponent for Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania and wanted to keep Hogan as the hero. So he asked me if I would consider me being an Iraqi sympathizer. I had to think long and hard about it. It was hard because red, white and blue runs through my veins. There were a lot of situations where I had to forgive myself and I hoped everyone would forgive me.

When you work with Randy, it’s intense. The only other person that I could call at three or four o’clock in the morning to talk about wrestling and would even answer their phone is Vince McMahon. And that’s how Randy was. Except Randy called me! “Hey, brother. Got an idea.” So when you got in bed with Randy, you were in it for the long haul. Good or bad, brother.

I identified with Randy a lot. We both had a lot in common, in that we were both buys who grew up in this industry whose fathers were wrestlers. I’ve always believed that for kids who that grew up in the industry that it’s not just a job, but it’s something they fell in love with and something they’ve known all their lives. There’s a certain camaraderie there. In a word, Randy was charismatic.
