Hogan defeats Savage at Wrestlemania V to capture his second WWE championship.

When you work with Randy, it’s intense. The only other person that I could call at three or four o’clock in the morning to talk about wrestling and would even answer their phone is Vince McMahon. And that’s how Randy was. Except Randy called me! “Hey, brother. Got an idea.” So when you got in bed with Randy, you were in it for the long haul. Good or bad, brother.

DiBiase defeats Randy Savage, Ken Patera and Brutus Beefcake to claim the crown at King of the Ring 1988.

I identified with Randy a lot. We both had a lot in common, in that we were both buys who grew up in this industry whose fathers were wrestlers. I’ve always believed that for kids who that grew up in the industry that it’s not just a job, but it’s something they fell in love with and something they’ve known all their lives. There’s a certain camaraderie there. In a word, Randy was charismatic.

In the tournament itself, I had to advance four times. Getting by Morales at the end was something special. He had been World Wrestling Federation Champion. He was the guy who I really wanted to face to make the King of the Ring mean something. I think overall, it did real well.

He was good. Hogan was a big man, he had a bodybuilder body and charisma. I had so much hate, people want to hurt me wherever I go. He win and make all his All-American fans happy. Since then he become Hulkamania, but everybody remember, without Iron Sheik, no Hulkamania.

Sting born in Omaha

Birth0 Comments

Sting is born in Omaha, Nebraska despite being billed from Venice Beach, California during his wrestling career. Sting develops an early interest in body building.

I never did the powerlifting thing, but the goal was to lift heavy. Four plates squatting for reps – 4-5, 8-10, 315 for 20, 225 for 50 – leg extensions, leg curls and that’s how we trained every single week. On the bench , my best was 435 – I was younger and I was on the gas, too. There were guys who weighed a lot less than I did who could easily do that. But I didn’t really train for power or strength. I trained for size. That’s all I was training for.
