Mad Max: Fury road

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this adventure directed by George Miller based on a book by Brendan McCarthy, Nick Lathauris and Miller, Hardy plays Max a man of action and few words trying to restore order in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken. Costarring Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Josh Helman, Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington.

When I got over the initial jubilation and excitement I suddenly realised that Mad Max is synonymous with Mel Gibson. If it’s not Mel it’s not Mad Max, and that was a little bit daunting and possibly people were going to dislike the change

The Boy Next Door

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this drama directed by Rob Cohen based on a book by Barbara Curry, Lopez plays Peterson, a recently cheated-on married woman who falls for a younger man who has just moved in next door. When she breaks up with him, he starts to stalk her. Co starring Ryan Guzman, Ian Nelson, John Corbet, Kristin Chenoweth, Lexi Atkins, Hill Harper, Jack Wallace and Adam Hicks.

When I read the script, I liked the character because I felt it was very related. She’s a woman in a long marriage, her husband just cheated on her, and she’s kind of at the lowest point in her life. She’s at that moment and then this guy comes along — the boy next door shows up — and starts making her feel like she is worth something. That she is desirable in some way and reminds her because she’s feeling the total opposite in that moment. And then of course, [she] makes a mistake and crosses the line and it changes their lives forever. But I really did love [how] she’s strong, but she’s vulnerable at the same time.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this action film directed by Joss Whedon, based on a book by Whedon, Downey plays Tony Stark/Iron Man, whose attempt to create a peace-keeping program goes awry, resulting in the rise of Ultron, a psychopathic computer-robot hybrid. The Avengers unite to save the planet. Co starring Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlet Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner.

You never want to lean on things that you did knowing that it was like a back-up parachute. You don’t want to pretend there’s a back-up to that back-up parachute. And yesterday’s approach doesn’t necessarily work today. That’s what I really enjoy – that double sliding scale Spock Chess thing. How do you do it? How did you ever do it? How did you do it before, and how are you going to do it next time? I think, ultimately, it comes down to the very self-deprecating Mr. Whedon, who is more exacting on himself than he could ever be on anyone else. But he’s specific and in charge and I found him enjoying himself a bit more this time while simultaneously holding himself to a higher standard. You can’t do the same thing, only smaller, not as cool. There’s that other trap – where it’s, “Everything is bigger! Better! Do you know how many gigabytes we used in the opening sequence? How many terabytes?” Ultimately it comes down to that.

American Sniper

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this drama directed by Clint Eastwood based on a book by Jason Hall, Cooper plays Chris Kyle, the most lethal sniper in American history. Co-starring:Sienna Miller, Luke Grimes,Kyle Gallner, Ben Reed and Elise Robertson. On getting Eastwood involved:

Now, you don’t really persuade Clint to do anything, he’s either going to do it or he’s not. But I said, ‘Hey, Clint, how you doing?’ ‘Bradley, how are you?’ And he’s like [Cooper speaks in this spot-on impression of Eastwood], ‘Yeah, I’m reading this Chris Kyle thing, 10 or so pages at night in-between shooting, yeah, so I guess Steven [Spielberg]’s not doing it, huh?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, and I have to say I just watched Unforgiven again, and there are a lot of similarities. I love the idea of treating this like a Western, and investigating this guy and his psyche.’ Clint goes, ‘Yeah, yeah, call me on Monday, let me take a look at the script.’ I said, OK, great, Clint, thank you.

What happened on the next call?

He says [in a hoarse whisper], ‘Yeah, let’s make this f*cker.’ And that was it. I was like, ‘OK, Clint.’

Fifty Shades of Grey

In this romance directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson based on a book by Kelly Marcel, Dornan plays Christian Grey, a rich businessman who gets romantically involved with a sexually inexperienced college girl, who discovers he is into sado-masochistic sex. Co-starring: Dakota Johnson, Rita Ora, Luke Grimes and Eloise Mumford.

I got through with a lot of apologies, you have to keep the intensity there, but maintain professionalism. At the end of the day, we’re all human beings and it can be uncomfortable to film things like that, so I just tried to make light of it

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this drama directed by Mathew Vaughn, based on a book by Mark Millar, Egerton plays Eggsy, a youth who is headed for a life in prison until the secret service recruits him. Co-starring: Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Michall Caine and Sofia Boutella.

That’s one of the things that I really, really appreciated on set, that Colin is enough of a good bloke – he would never presume to give me advice unless I sought it. That’s part of what he did to level the playing field. Despite the vast gap in our stature as performers – how established Colin is and how green I am – him doing that made me feel very confident.

In this drama directed by John Requa, Smith plays Nicky a con artist who becomes romantically involved with his partner while teaching her the tricks of the trade. He ends the relationship when she becomes uncomfortably close. Co-starring: Robbie Margot, Rodrigo Santoro, Adrian Martinez and B.D Wong.

You can’t create chemistry, you either have it or your don’t. It was pretty instantaneous. The second she walked in I was like, “Uh huh…” It was really palpable. I’ve never used that word in public before – that felt good! It was the correct usage, right? Ok, it was palpable!

These Final Hours

In this thriller directed by Zack Hilditch, Phillips plays James. With only hours left until the end of the world, a self-obsessed man on his way to a party saves the life of a little girl, who is trying to find her father. Co-starring: Jessica De Gouw,Sarah Snook, Daniel Henshall and Angourie Rice.

I was fortunate enough to be sent the script. I was living in northern California on a farm and had been removed from the industry for a few months. I choose to do that and I think it’s really healthy to take a break. So yeah, I read the script and saw it was a coming-of-age tale for a young man moving from his 20s to his 30s and realising that there’s more to life than getting “off your head” every weekend. He wants more substance in his life.

In this comedy directed by Ken Scott, based on a book by Steven Conrad, Vaughn plays a small business owner travelling to Europe with his associates to close the most important deal of their lives. Co-starring Dave Franco, Tom Wilkinson, Sienna Miller,James Marsden and Nick Frost. About his character:

It’s easy to make the guy sort of be kind of incompetent but what I think is cool is that the character is actually a guy who, yes, he has his challenges, but he’s a competent guy facing those challenges which makes it more interesting

Chappie

Film Appearance0 Comments

In this drama directed by Neill Blomkamp, Copley plays Chappie a droid that feels and thinks for himself. The authorities see him as danger to human kind and want to make sure he is the last of his kind. Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Siguorney Weaver, Yolandi Visser and David Patel.

I think we’re finding our stride now on this third film, sort of going back to a smaller style of filmmaking. I’m doing the lead again… I’m playing a light character… A child-like robot, which is great. He only gets to about nine years in his emotional development. I got to run around in one of the most dangerous cities in the world being a child. It was awesome.
