Other AwardsWins Sport Event0 Comments

Marbury is named the finals MVP after leading the Ducks to their second straight CBA championship–their third title overall since Marbury joined the team four years ago. During the finals, Marbury averaged 29.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and two steals.

This year, a lot of people criticized me, saying I was old, that I couldn’t play anymore. But I turned all that into fuel…When we won the first championship, people said we couldn’t get another. After the second, people said you guys can’t repeat. Establishing a dynasty has always been my goal and my motivation.

Sign player out of desperation

With eight players on their injured list and without eight healthy players that could play, the Timberwolves sign Kilpatrick to a 10-day contract just hours before their game against the Knicks. After learning he was signed, Kilpatrick quickly gathered his belongings and drove from Delaware to New York, arriving at the Timberwolves’ locker room in Madison Square Garden about 45 minutes before the start of the game. T-Wolves coach Flip Saunders:

We had to fulfill our rules, so we had to go find somebody that was within a train ride away…We had him in before so we worked him out, so we knew about him and we’ve been following him, but there’s no question that geography helped. We had to have a guy here ready to play at 7:30.

Kilpatrick:

I was just getting ready. We had practice today to get ready to play one of the other D-League teams. I didn’t think I was going to end up here. It’s kind of a blessing.

Out four to six weeks

Ibaka is out four to six weeks after undergoing an arthroscopic knee procedure to address swelling and soreness. Ibaka had been averaging 14.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game this season. His four-season streak of leading the NBA in total blocked shots will come to an end.

Serge is a guy that always wants to be out on the floor, rarely misses time, but we felt like with where the symptoms were, we didn’t think it was going to be improving, and because of that, this was the necessary step.

Signs three-year deal

Joins Team0 Comments

The Browns sign Williams to a three-year deal. Financial terms are not disclosed. Williams joins a Browns secondary that had three of its members named to the 2015 Pro Bowl.

It’s going to be awesome. I’ll be glad to join those guys and help those guys with whatever they need. I see where these guys are going and I think I can help them go to where they want to go. They had a great defense last year with a lot of young guys on the team. I’m a veteran guy and I hope I can take them to another level.

Signs two-year deal

The Panthers sign Coleman to a two-year contract worth $2.8 million with a $600,000 signing bonus. Coleman:

Being familiar with Sean and watching this defense, I wanted to be able to help this team build into something special and make a run. They’ve done great the last two years getting into the playoffs, but the great thing is they’re not satisfied with just getting there. I want to be a piece to help this team go and be something special.

Panthers:

Kurt gives us a versatile safety who can play both spots. He’s athletic, he’s intelligent, and will understand the system, having worked with Sean before…He’s a very consistent player and also adds special-teams ability. That is something we’ve talked about improving upon and we’ve made some moves this offseason looking for guys that can help us on special teams.

Out for season

Injury0 Comments

Wheeler is having Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with a fully torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his pitching elbow. He will miss the entire season.

We had been forewarned by the doctor that his elbow was a concern and it was going to have to be managed over the course of this season. It wasn’t clear that the ligament was involved at that time, but we understood we were going to have to manage his elbow condition over the course of the season. So when he complained of the elbow pain, it wasn’t a surprise to us…We’re still digesting the injury to Zack and really have not started to address that issue.

I felt great, just throwing strikes, attacking the zone.

On his chances of entering the team based on other players’ injuries:

I know people have said things like that, but I don’t know. I’ve got an A’s uni on right now, I’ve just got to stay in the present moment, give it my all to the team every time.
