Post-debate interview

Trump is interviewed after the debate.

Well, I thought that if you looked at Hillary’s deal a couple of weeks ago, the questions were much softer, much easier and much nicer. It was like a giant love fest. That did not take place over here. This was pretty tough. But, I would say that’s the way you want it to go…That was actually quite boring – this was more exciting.

Third republican presidential debate

Fiorina appears at the third Republican presidential debate in Boulder, CO, hosted by CNBC. She defends her record as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, says a minimum wage is unconstitutional, and calls out Hillary Clinton and President Obama on their policies towards working women.

It is the height of hypocrisy for Mrs. Clinton to talk about being the first women President, when every single policy she espouses, and every single policy of Barack Obama, has been demonstrably bad for women. 92% of the jobs lost duringBarack Obama’s first term, belonged to women… Three million women have fallen into poverty under this administration. The number of women living in EXTREME poverty is the highest on record.

Carson appears at the third Republican presidential debate in Boulder, CO, hosted by CNBC. He attempts to explain his flat-tax plan and says it is ‘total propaganda’ to suggest he has any connection to Mannatech, a nutritional supplement company. Responding to a question about how he reconciles being an opponent of same-sex marriage, with serving on the board of Costco, regarded as gay-friendly:

I believe our Constitution protects everyone… They (the gay community) shouldn’t automatically assume because you believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, that you’re a homophobe. This is one of the myths that the Left perpetrates on our society. This is how they frighten people and get people to shut up. You know, that’s what the PC culture is all about, and it’s destroying this nation.

Collins talks to Rolling Stone about starting to work again.

I’m no longer officially retired. The horse is out of the stable and I’m raring to go…My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does. They were in nappies when I was last on the road. They love my music and I’d like to take them out so they can enjoy it.

He also talks about his wife leaving him in 2008:

It left me with a lot of time on my hands to think about what happened. I went through a few bits of darkness; drinking too much. I killed my hours watching TV and drinking, and it almost killed me. But I haven’t had a drink in three years.

And his recent surgery:

I had an MRI and my back and hips were just shot. The doctor had to go in there, work on the sciatic nerve and take my back apart and unscramble the mess…After this surgery, though, the doctor said to me that my vital signs were all there. He said to me, ‘If you want to play drums again, all you have to do is practice.

He also says he doesn’t understand fans who want to see the early Genesis lineup reform.

I just don’t understand that. They haven’t thought it through. Pete won’t sing Invisible Touch‘ or I Can’t Dance. We’d only do material like The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Also, I can’t play drums, so I can’t do what I did. I just want to settle with the bits of me that I can possibly do.

Trump participates in the third Republican debate. On his biggest weakness:

I trust people too much, I’m too trusting. And when they let me down, if they let me down, I never forgive.

On SuperPACs:

Super PACs are a disaster, they’re a scam, they cause dishonesty and you better get rid of them, because they are causing a lot of bad decisions to be made by some very good people.

i-D interview

In her first interview in three years, with i-D magazine, Adele talks about the songs on 25, and about her life since her previous album. On whether Hello is a follow-up to Someone Like You:

Oh, God no. That’s over and done with, thank f-ck. That’s been over and done with for f-cking years. No, it’s not about anyone specifically. It’s about friends, ex-boyfriends, it’s about myself, it’s about my family. It’s also about my fans as well. I feel like everyone thinks I’m so far away and I’m not.

On the influence of Amy Winehouse:

I wasn’t going to [see the recent documentary]. I loved her and I went through my own massive grieving process as her fan. I’d finally got to a place where I felt really great about the impact she’d had on my life, in every way … I wasn’t really that into the saved voicemails and stuff like that. I felt like I was intruding so I actually felt a little bit uncomfortable and that ruined it for me. I love watching her, but I kind of wish I hadn’t seen it. But you know, I love Amy. I always have, I always will. Do you know what makes me super sad? That I’m never going to hear her voice again, other than how I’ve heard it.

Mitchell claims that he was so close to Winfrey she asked his mother to adopt him. Mitchell’s mother:

It felt strange because I felt if someone wanted to help me with my children, that’s one thing. But to actually adopt one child knowing I have others? I couldn’t allow her to separate my children.

He claims that after treating him like a son for five years, Winfrey gave up on him after he left The Piney Woods School, a prestigious Christian-based boarding school, that she had paid his tuition for.

She told me, ‘Calvin, just try to work it out. You can do it. Just hang in there.’ She was trying to inspire me to do what was right. But even after the long pep talk she gave me, I still left…I was young. I made a dumb decision, and Oprah wouldn’t forgive me. I feel like what she did was wrong. By leaving school, I’d failed my whole family. I want to ask Oprah, ‘Why did you leave me? Why did you leave me?’ But I thought Oprah and Stedman would still be a part of my life. At one point, it was like I’d lost my whole world.

Doesn’t ‘get’ recent poll drop

In a call to Morning Joe, Trump says he doesn’t understand his drop in recent polls.

I don’t get it…I’m going there (to Iowa) actually today and I have tremendous crowds and I have tremendous love in the room and, you know, we seem to have hit a chord. But some of these polls coming out, I don’t quite get it.

He says he is stepping up attacks on Ben Carson.

You know Ben wants to knock out Medicare. I heard that over the weekend, he wants to abolish Medicare. And I think, you know, abolishing Medicare. I don’t think you’re going to get away with that one. And it’s actually a program that’s worked…You look at different things having to do with Ben and there’s a lot of contradiction and a lot of questions. We’ll have to see. One thing I know about a front-runner: you get analyzed 15 different ways from China.

Missing Skywalker ‘no accident’

In a red-carpet interview, Abrams says Luke Skywalker’s non-appearance in the trailers and poster is deliberate.

These are good questions to be asking. I can’t wait for you to find out the answers. It’s no accident…We were all thrilled that the trailer was seen and embraced, especially [from] people who were saying that they’re not even fans of Star Wars, but they’re interested in seeing this thing now. It’s a testament to all the amazing work that this cast and crew have done.

In an interview with Fox News, Pope says the tide is turning for country women music.

I do see things changing for women and country radio. This year was a big year for women and conversation that was started, initially seemed to have this negative kind of subject matter but, in the end, I think it was best thing that could have happened for us. The conversation opened up…I’m really proud to call myself a woman in country music, because I mean, we’re doing such great things and we’re paving the way for each other. So It’s exciting to be a part of movement.

‘Marquez would prefer Lorenzo to win’

Rossi speaks to the Italian media about his comments on Marc Marquez helping out Jorge Lorenzo.

In the race I noticed it, but I did not understand; Marquez was a step above everyone, but instead of trying to try to battle Lorenzo, he stayed with me to fight with Iannone and others. He knew that I was losing out to the Ducati on the straight. And so every time I tried to pass him, he re-overtook me (super-aggressive, but thats the way it is). But then he slowed to create a gap to Jorge. His bad luck was that on Sunday Jorge was not so strong, because otherwise it would have been over already. Instead, he always kept Jorge in check, knowing that he could catch him within 3 laps, and then tried to slow me and Iannone, perhaps trying to put other riders between me and Lorenzo. And in the end, that’s what he did. It is clearly quite worrying, but it doesn’t worry me too much. [He did this ] because he would prefer Lorenzo to win. He is angry at me for a personal matter. Although he never said it, he thinks that in Argentina I made him crash; and then at Assen he is still thinking about the last chicane, in his head he feels he should have won that race. Since then he has been angry and thinking like a child: I do not win, but you do not win either. At this point, the lesser evil is for him is for Lorenzo to win.

‘I couldn’t win’

In an interview with 60 Minutes, Biden says he dropped out of the presidential race because he could not win.

I’ll be very blunt. If I thought we could’ve put together the campaign … that our supporters deserve and our contributors deserved, … I would have done it.

He also says he has nothing against Clinton.

I’ve said from the beginning, ‘Look, I like Hillary. Hillary and I get along together. The only reason to run is because … I still think I could do a better job than anybody else could do.

He also says there was no ‘Hollywood moment’ where his dying son asked him to run.

Nothing like that ever, ever happened. Beau all along thought that I should run and I could win. But there was not what was sort of made out as kind of this Hollywood-esque thing that, at the last minute, Beau grabbed my hand and said, ‘Dad, you’ve got to run,’ like win one for the Gipper’.

Mashable interview

Sorkin talks to Mashable about Steve Jobs:

People have a real emotional connection, good or bad, toward him, his company and his products. There are people who love them. We saw the outpouring of mourning and eulogising that happened after his death.

He says that one scene, that combines two arguments from different time periods, is partially based on notes Sculley sent Sorkin during his research.

He sent me a fantastic, comprehensive document. If you were in the White House press corps, you’d call it a tick tock of that night…It was fascinating, and I knew I wanted to dramatise it. Especially because it differed from the conventional record of what happened, that Sculley was just a sort of a stupid suit that didn’t understand the creative genius of Steve Jobs and so fired him. You can tell that the weight of that thing that’s been hung around him for all of these years kind of ruined his life.

Taste of Country interview

In an interview with Taste of Country Pope talks about her getting fired up for her performances.

I just channel all the obstacles thrown my way, like my parents’ divorce when I was 11. I had to get through that. I felt helpless through that, but I came out the other side learning a lot from it…I grew up singing country and I feel like I’m a good girl, but I’ve got tattoos and I travel and I’m on the road a ton. As a kid I got good grades, but I also had a fake I.D. There’s all these contradictions with myself, and I’m sure a lot of people.

Testifies to Benghazi committee

Clinton testifies about her role in the 2012 Benghazi attack, in an 11-hour congressional hearing. An email to her daughter was shown, where Clinton said the attack was by Al-Qaeda, despite telling the public the attack was a result of the video. She acknowledged that she couldn’t recall having talked to Ambassador Stevens after having sworn him in as ambassador, though she believed they had spoken. She said he did not have her email. At another point, clinton laughed when she said she spent the night alone after she left the office on the night of the attack.

I came here because I said I would. And I’ve done everything I know to do, as have the people with whom I worked, to try to answer your questions. I cannot do any more than that.

Ate raw bison liver, slept in animal carcass

In an interview with Yahoo Movies, DiCaprio says that The Revenant was one of the most challenging of his career.

I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. Whether it’s going in and out of frozen rivers or sleeping in animal carcasses or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly. I certainly don’t eat raw bison liver on a regular basis. When you see the movie, you’ll see my reaction to it because Alejandro [Inarritu] kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction.

On talk that some staff left the film:

I wasn’t privy to exactly what went on. But to me, most of the people were there working incredibly hard, and they should be given due credit for the effort they gave this movie because everyone I saw was giving their heart and soul to pursuing his vision.

Playboy interview

Radcliffe answers 20 questions for a Playboy interview. He talks about growing up with Harry Potter, his height, and masturbation.

Yeah, I was like every other teenager in that sense. My favorite line about masturbation is Louis C.K.’s, something like “I found out about it when I was 11, and I didn’t skip a day.” I think I started very early—before my teens. But not when I was on set. I wasn’t going, When is Alan Rickman going to nail this scene so I can run back to my trailer? There’s another feeling, again perfectly described by Louis C.K.: that fear just after you’ve jerked off that everyone knows what you did. It would have been embarrassing to walk back on set and look the dignitaries of British acting royalty in the eye, knowing what I’d been doing.

Reveals baby name: Elsie Otter

In an interview on Today, Deschanel reveals her daughter’s name — Elsie Otter.

We just really liked the name Elsie and then we both love otters — they’re very sweet and they’re also smart. They use tools … they hold hands while they sleep, there’s so many amazing things about otters. They’re wonderful animals.

Will close mosques, revoke ISIS fighter passports

In an interview on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co, Trump says he will rescind passports of those who fight for ISIS.

Varney: Now, in the UK, in Britain, they’ve obviously got a terror problem. They’ve got a lot of youngsters going over to fight for ISIS, about — just under 1,000 are going over there, and they’ve got a whole new series of proposals to deal with this, including withdrawal of passports from some of these people who’ve gone –.
Trump: Absolutely good, good.
Varney: And closing some mosques, would you do the same thing in America.
Trump: I would do that. Absolutely. I think it’s great.
