Piers Morgan interview

Lohan and the British reporter meet for a 90-minute interview at a Manhattan townhouse. Lohan answers Morgan’s questions about her childhood and parents, her drug and alcohol use, and her intimate relationships with both men and women. On her mandated return to rehab in three weeks time:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people taking time to just be by themselves. I think people want to see me do that. They will keep saying the same things about me if I don’t. I don’t think it will be a bad thing for me to be away with myself for three months. I look at it as a good thing. I can come back afterwards and be fully focused on work. But I think there are other things I could do instead of going to a rehab centre that would benefit me more. The best thing they could do for me would be to make me go abroad to different countries and work with children.

Jamie Foxx interview

Winfrey interviews Jamie Foxx  and talks about being a SNL host and his music career.

In different forms at different times. When I’m in the studio, I’m completely focused on music. But it’s tough for me when I’m with other musicians, as it makes me think of my childhood. When I was younger, I was funny, but I really only wanted to be a recording artist. I just didn’t get the chance – until recently.

The newspaper profiles the firm’s Demo Day, speaking with Graham, Altman, and Livingston about the company’s strategy for picking startups to support. Graham:

Imagine an assembly line where Facebooks and Googles come along every few years. You can either pick that cookie off the assembly line or not. If you pick it off, it’s market price, which varies. But if you don’t pick it off, you’re out of the game.

The Talks interview

Ellis gives an interview to The Talks. He discusses seeing a dead body, problems with drugs, and his Twitter.

I just have these random opinions about movies or bands or what I am listening to and they end up floating on my little Twitter page and that’s it. I just have this abstract notion that I have 350,000 followers. But what does that mean? I never tweet at people. I’m not a bully. I just have these thoughts. A lot of people do insult others. I get those tweets constantly where people are like, “You are a douche bag!” “You suck!” or “You haven’t been relevant in years!” I get those all the time. A hundred of them a day. I’ve never done that in my life.

Arrington interviews Conway, Lee, and Pokorny about where the innovations are in tech.

Lee:

I would actually say in the last 12-18 months ideas are bigger, bolder, more ambitious…

Those include things like drone companies, and scientific research.

Conway:

We just in the last six months have [identified] two new target sectors to invest…education and the internet of things

He says the company is looking at ‘hardware devices communicating constantly with the web’, and says SV Angel is ‘defining’ the new sector of health informatics.

Lee:

The basic idea is if you think about the explosion of genomic medical information, all the medical data that is now being digitized…I think there’s now a chance to turn biology itself into a [tech sector]

Pokorny:

I’m still bullish on consumer innovation

Booker T discusses winning the WWE King of the Ring tournament and becoming King Booker:

I was like, I’m going to act like a king if I become King Booker. I thought about it and I studied the Pope, the King of Scotland just as far as people to watch. I just took on a different persona that people could remember forever more. With everybody that won the King of the Ring, they’re not going to think about them first, they’re going to think about King Booker. Then, they’re going to think about who (else) won the King of the Ring.

Brosnan discusses his new film, Love Is All You Need, about a widower finding new love, in this interview for PBS.

All the people in this film are somewhat mangled in their own way, fractured in their own way, and searching in their own way. So there was no remorse, there was no sentimentality; there was no kind of me trying to work out past histories of my own life. This was purely for entertainment value.

Fred Wilson interview

Arrington and Wilson talk about Kevin Durant, Jim Cramer, and how and how not to pitch a startup. Arrington:

If other venture capitalists are sheep, what animal are you?

Wilson:

I may be a sheep too…We like to think we get out in front of trends but a lot of people in the venture business don’t, they sit back and wait for what becomes obvious and they jump on it.

He adds:

When people laugh at the company and say that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, that’s a good sign…people who are sheep in the business aren’t going to make a lot of money.

Conway and Winter are interviewed by Siegler at a Tech Crunch event about the Napster documentary. Conway talks about his efforts to sort out the company’s legal problems:

Technically speaking it’s still not solved…Today we have all the sharing economy companies, like ride sharing and AirbnB, and all the local authorities are acting like the record labels. You can’t stop innovation, and it amazes me that people still don’t know that.

In an on-stage interview at the Techcrunch Disrupt conference, Carter says terrestrial radio is due for disruption:

I think the opening right now is really figuring out terrestrial radio, specifically in America..People still get in the car, for the most part, and they turn on the radio [to] the local station. I think it’s going to be interesting when you can get in your car, turn on the radio turn on the station and you’re listening to a 17 year-old kid in Russia or you’re listening to a 22 year-old kid in his dorm room in Germany. But I think radio’s going to be a real disruption.

He also says the music industry must adapt to change:

I don’t think tech has screwed the music industry, the music industry has to adjust to change. When people in remote villages throughout the world can access music, it’s a good thing.

Korderas talks about working for McMahon in WWE:

Vince is actually a great boss, because Vince is the kind of guy that wouldn’t ask guys to do something that he wouldn’t do. Vince has pretty much done everything in the business leading to him becoming chairman and he installed that into his son Shane. When Shane began working for the company he worked with every part of the company, he helped out the ring crew, he refereed, it’s not like the family are strangers to hard work.
