So I read the book about ten years ago and I tried to get the rights but was told they were owned by someone else. And I was told in the beginning that Peter had written a screenplay of the book back in the ’80s. Over the years I kept basically downloading the book into screenplay form and rearranging things and showing it to people and a couple of years later near the end of that process I showed it to Alex [Metcalf] and we wrote a draft together. And as I tried to get the rights again, I though what would have Peter Dexter added to the screenplay that isn’t in the book? So I realized all I need was the book, so I didn’t really look at his screenplay.

And it was only one person … no mask, no gun, no glove, didn’t look suspicious. As soon as they opened the door, then four people barged in guns a blazing. I thought whatever you want you take it. I was on the ground, and he was holding the gun to our heads. I was staring down the barrel of a pistol.

I had that song and it had just come out of the sky about 2 o’clock in the morning about five months ago. The rest of the band were in London because we had just finished a session together, but Tim was here, so I asked him, ‘Is there any way you can come in a do this demo?’ And in about 20 minutes, he turned it into this full-on thing and it was just wonderful to do that he was there from the beginning.

She just had to be totally drastic because we wouldn’t let her grow up like Shirley Temple we never wanted her to grow up either. But Miley said I had to kill Hanna Montana in order to be Miley.
