‘An inspiration to all’
Tendulkar pays homage to Kalam at Kalams residence where his body is being kept.
The nation mourns the loss of a great person. Former President of India, a renowned scientist, an inspiration to all, a terrific human being…RIP Dr. Abdul Kalam
‘One of India’s most accomplished leaders’
President Obama extends his condolences on the event of Kalams death. He pays rich tributes and says that Kalam served as an inspiration to millions of Indians.
A scientist and statesman, Dr Kalam rose from humble beginnings to become one of India’s most accomplished leaders, earning esteem at home and abroad. An advocate for stronger US-India relations, Kalam worked to deepen our space cooperation, forging links with NASA during a 1962 visit to the United States.
‘A giant of the game’
Richardson gives tribute to Rice:
Clive Rice was a giant of the game, not just in South Africa, but across the cricketing world. Though his international appearances for the Proteas were limited to just three ODIs, Clive was a hugely inspirational figure for those of us who had the privilege to represent our country since readmission to international cricket in 1991 and it was fitting that Clive was named as captain of the national team on that historic first tour to India.
Clive was hugely regarded across the world game as a player, but later as a coach and mentor where he inspired the likes of Lance Klusener, Shaun Pollock and Jonty Rhodes, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. On behalf of the ICC I would like to extend our condolences to his wife Sue and children at this difficult time.
‘An absolute legend’
Matthews recalls Rice:
He was one of those captains who got the best out of every single person who was in his team. It was just a great honour to have the opportunity right at the end of his career to play under him on that iconic tour of India. He was just an absolute legend. He played the game hard and was always very fair…Unfortunately he never had the opportunity at the height of his career to play on the international stage, because he would have been one of the great all-rounders the world had seen.
A ‘true SA cricket legend’
Els pays tribute to Rice on his passing.

Orders flags to half-staff
President Obama orders flags to be lowered to half-staff at the White House and federal buildings across the country until July 25, to honor the victims of the shooting, after facing pressure from lawmakers and others.
We honor their service. We offer our gratitude to the police officers and first responders who stopped the rampage and saved lives. We draw strength from yet another American community that has come together with an unmistakable message to those who would try and do us harm: We do not give in to fear. You cannot divide us. And you will not change our way of life.

Victim’s family tributes
Coleman-Singleton’s son, Christopher speaks about his mother and the other victims of Roof.
It’s funny how I always told you that you went to church too much. You would laugh it off and say, ‘Boy you can never have too much of the Lord.’ You were a better mother than I could ever have asked for…This has truly broken my heart in every way possible, but I know I have to stay strong for my little brother and sister…I thank everyone for your prayers and thoughts, [Roof’s actions were terrible] but I’m positive this strong woman is in a better place now and I forgive him. Keep our families in your prayers as we continue with this horrid grieving process

Delivers eulogy
President Obama delivers the eulogy at Biden’s funeral, speaking for 25 minutes at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church to about 1,000 mourners, including former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary.
He did in 46 years what most of us could not do in 146. He left nothing in the tank…He lived a life where the means were as important as the ends. He made you want to be a better daughter or son or a better brother or sister. And better at your job, a better soldier. He made you want to be a better person…Isn’t that finally the measure of a man, the way he lives, how he treats others no matter what life may throw at him? We do not know how long we’ve got here. We don’t know when fate will intervene. We cannot discern God’s plan.
About 200 people inside the parish gymnasium watch Obama and others speak on two monitors, while several hundred people listened to the service from loudspeakers outside on the church property. Joe Biden did not speak during the two-hour ceremony.
Plays at funeral

For you, I’d wait ’til kingdom come. Until my days, my days are done.
