Leaves Today Show, joins CBS
Couric leaves NBC and joins CBS, where she is set to become first solo female anchor in weekday evening network news history.
I wanted to tell all of you out there who have watched the show for the past 15 years that after listening to my heart and my gut — two things that have served me pretty well in the past — I’ve decided I’ll be leaving Today at the end of May. I really feel as if we’ve become friends through the years.

I love to dance. I think anyone who knows me well knows that. I taught swing dancing in college and I know how to cut the rug a little bit. Then Katie told us that the show actually did reach out to her and she was flattered, but told them.

I think it felt very restricting to me and confining. I’m really, really glad I did it I got to cover some amazing news stories. I got to be on the forefront of the earthquake in Haiti and the Arab uprising in Tahrir Square, and obviously one of the most historic elections in history. I feel very privileged that I was able to do it, that I sat in the chair, and I also feel great that I realized it wasn’t necessarily the best use of my talent. And I think that’s a really important lesson for people that they have to be honest with themselves and what gives them joy. I’m much better suited to a more interactive format, where I can be a little more spontaneous and conversational and relaxed. And I think it wasn’t a perfect fit, but I had a lot of fun trying on the suit.

I don’t like to get emotional but I know exactly what he’s going through.

About 116 people contributed to this book. This should be heartening for a lot of people, because I think one of the most prevalent things is how many of these people have failed. So much of success is about being able to pick yourself up and be resilient.

We’re getting married on June 21, the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. And you know it’s going to be a very small wedding out in East Hampton in the backyard with friends and family. I still don’t know what I will be wearing. I need to get on that, right. Couric, Molner marry
Couric weds Molner on June 21, 2014 in East Hampton, New York. The wedding is small and guests includes Couric’s daughters along with Molner’s children. Couris wears an ivory beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo. This is the second marriage for Couric, her first husband passed away in January 1998.

Mother dies at 91
Couric’s mother, Elinor Couric, dies at the age of 91.
My heart is broken. I lost my mom and best friend. We love you and miss you, Mom/Granny. My world and the world at large seems terribly off.
Call for U.S. to act before possible death sentence
Grace and Matthew talk with Couric about their case in Qatar and the possible death penalty that awaits at their sentencing. Grace says they want the U.S. government to act before the sentencing date, due at the end of November:
We want them to get us home before the 30th. On the 30th, we do not know what this court will do.
They say the government’s request to lift the travel ban isn’t enough:
We need more action from the United States. We want the State Department to continue to press for our release.
Matthew on why they immediately were treated as suspects following their daughter Gloria’s death in 2013:
I believe that authorities in Qatar suspected foul play because we are Asian and we adopted three children from Africa who are black
He says they were accused of killing her to sell her body parts on the black market. Matthew says her health problems were due to experiences before she was adopted:
A lot of her struggles were from malnourishment from when she was younger
The Huangs also say the autopsy was botched and they do not trust the court system. Their two sons, also adopted, have already been allowed to return to the U.S. and are being cared for by family. Matthew says the trial process comes at what is already a difficult time:
We have not been able or begun to grieve at all
Defends Obama
In an interview with Couric, Axelrod speaks out against Rudy Giuliani, who has implied that Obama doesn’t love America.
I don’t know anybody who has…a deeper feeling about this country than the President. And I don’t know anybody who’s expressed it more eloquently over a long period of time. So I really wrote it off to, frankly, a fading politician trying to light himself on fire and make himself relevant.
