It was probably the hardest thing Ive ever done. The complexity of the character… Was I going over the top? Was I making it real? Everything about her from the way that she walked to the way that she spoke. Everything about her had to be correct.
The Aviator
DiCaprio plays Howard Hughes in this biopic directed by Martin Scorsese. The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s through the 1940s, an epoch when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircrafts he designed and created. It also follows his descent into madness as his compulsiveness for cleanliness gives way to frequent outbursts and ticks. He turns away those closest to him, confining himself and emerging only when absolutely necessary. Co-starring Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale.
[Hughes was] the first American billionaire who had all the resources in the world but was somehow unable to find any sense of peace or happiness. It’s that great see-saw act in the movie that goes on. On one side, he’s having all the successes in the world. And on the other side the tiny microbes and germs are the things that are taking him downwards, because of his OCD and being a germaphobe.
The Aviator
Beckinsale plays Ava Gardner in the biographical drama film about aviation magnate Howard Hughes, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Gardner is just one of many love interests throughout Hughes’ colorful life. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese. On playing Ava Gardner:

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events
Streep plays Aunt Josephine in this family adventure directed by Brad Silberling. After they are orphaned, Klaus, Violet and Sunny are taken in by their cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, not knowing that he wants to steal their inheritance. Co-starring Jim Carrey and Jude Law.
Aunt Josephine is a great tremulous little bird of a person who was an adventurer in her youth until something spooked her. I just fell in love with this character who is terrified of absolutely everything, because at a certain level, so am I … so are we all.
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events
Carrey plays Count Olaf in this family adventure directed by Brad Silberling. After they are orphaned, Klaus, Violet and Sunny are taken in by their cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, not knowing that he wants to steal their inheritance. Co-starring Jude Law and Meryl Streep.
Although I want to be entertaining, the bottom line is Olaf is not a nice person. He has to be that way. I said to the early on that I want them to laugh, but at the same time the danger has to be real or we have nothing. The movie is meaningless without real danger.
Flight of the Phoenix
Padalecki plays John Davis, a plane crash survivor in the film, Flight of the Phoenix. He and the rest of the survivors must race to rebuild the plane before their time runs out.
Ocean’s Twelve
Zeta-Jones plays Europol agent Isabel Lahiri in the crime drama Ocean’s Twelve. Three years after their big Las Vegas heist, the team is visited by Terry Benedict, the man whose money they stole. He wants his money back with interest. The team goes to work in Europe this time but their reputation precedes them. Lahiri will not allow any heists under her watch. Co-starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle and Julia Roberts.
There’s something very sexy about a heist movie. I don’t know what it is, all those ropes, all those gadgets.
Ocean’s Twelve
Pitt returns as Rusty Ryan in this sequel to the 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven. He reunites with Danny Ocean and Linus Caldwell to conduct another heist in Europe. They need to give back the money they stole from Terry Benedict lest they risk going to jail in the US. Joining the original cast members are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vincent Cassel, and Robbie Coltrane. On working with his co-stars:
I’d like to call it work but it was pretty much automatic for us. First of all, there’s a very low level of maturity amongst all the guys there so that helps. We bonded very quickly, then we got the beautiful women to make us look better but it’s pretty automatic.
Closer
Portman joins actor Jude Law once again in the 2004 drama Closer, along with Hollywood veterans Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. The film tells the story about two London couples and their participation in a dangerous game of love, lies and infidelity.
I just always choose things based on if it’s different from something I’ve done before. If it’s something challenging. If it’s something I think I might not be able to do.
Raise Your Voice
Duff stars in the feature film Raise Your Voice. Duff plays main character Terri Fletcher who overcomes emotional hardship to rediscover her confidence and love for singing. The film also features actors David Keith and Jason Ritter.
I think luckily whenever I had a dream my parents have been 100 percent supportive and I’ve never had to sneak around. I think that Terri was so naive when she got into that school. She’s such an open minded girl and I think it hit her hard when she gets to the school and see that people really are that evil. She doesn’t know how to handle it at first.
Friday Night Lights
Based on H.G. Bissingers best selling tale, Young plays Chris Commer, a football player for the Permian Panthers in a small town in Odessa, Texas. This drama is about a town’s obsession with their football team’s journey to fulfill their destiny and dreams during the 1988 season. Billy Bob Thornton plays Coach Gary Gaines. Co-starring Derek Luke and Lucas Black.
I had never played football before so they sent me the script and I was like, I don’t even know who I play. But that character is perfect for me in so many ways. He’s like third string and he comes in to play. You know, it’s my first movie so it’s kind of like getting the chance to do something great.
Garden State
Portman plays Sam in the 2004 comedy drama Garden State, a story about television actor Andrew Largeman, played by Zach Braff, and his return home to New Jersey from LA after the death of his mother.
I was really excited to do a movie that was about people, after doing something that was so big like Star Wars.
Collateral
Cruise plays Vincent, a hit man, in this thriller directed by Michael Mann. The night before a trial, he hijacks a cab and its driver, Max, played by Jamie Foxx, to drive him around Los Angeles so he can kill the witnesses and prosecutor per his contract. Co-starring Jada Pinkett-Smith and Mark Ruffalo.
It was different. I always look for a challenge and something that’s different. This definitely had every element and promise of being that. I wanted to work with Michael Mann and these guys, Jada and Jamie. It was very challenging, really challenging.
The Manchurian Candidate
Washington plays Major Ben Marco in the The Manchurian Candidate, alongside actor Liev Schreiber. After saving Marco and his men from an ambush during the Gulf War, Sergeant Raymond Shaw, played by Schreiber, has propelled his way into a vice presidential nomination. The closer Marco investigates the fateful day of the ambush, the more his life is threatened by the Manchurian Global Corporation.
If the film makes people think, that’s the point.
I, Robot
The sci-fi thriller starring Will Smith is released. Based on the short stories of Isaac Asimov’s collection of the same name, the plot revolves around a murder, and the Three Laws of Robotics.

A Cinderella Story
Duff stars in the feature film A Cinderella Story. Duff plays high school character Sam who falls in love with character Austin Ames—played by Chad Michael Murray—while wearing a mask at a school dance. A modern twist on the Cinderella story, Austin tries to find out who Sam is after she drops her cell phone leaving the dance.
Well, I’m kind of like Sam in a way. You’re very cautious and you don’t want to put yourself out there to get yourself let down or hurt or something. But I guess if you really care about someone and they really care about you too, then you sometimes just go for it and let everything go. And have fun with it. It can be exciting.
Promised Land
Pike plays the character Rose in Amos Gitai’s crime drama. She offers hope to a group of foreign prostitutes smuggled into Israel. Gitai:
Other films I’ve done, like Kadosh and Kippur, are all dealing with homogeneous Israeli microcosms, but with a critical attitude to religion or military activity. And now, with this group of films, starting with Promised Land and Free Zone, I’m more into the marriage of opposites, of difference, of the fragmentation of the coherence.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
In the third installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Watson returns as Hermione Granger, helping Harry, Ron, and Professor Remus Lupin (David Thewlis) find Sirius Black, an escaped serial killer, while uncovering the mysteries surrounding the night Harry became an orphan.
Oh, I loved it! It’s my favorite book, my favorite script, and it’s such a fantastic part for Hermoine. She really comes into her own, and I think you see a really different side to her than you have in the other two [films]. I think it’s much more personal, and this film has really tested and challenged me, and I’ve definitely enjoyed it the best out of the three because of that … I hope that I did her justice and that she’s what (fans) thought she’d be.
Troy
Gleeson plays Menelaus in this adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Iliad, directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Paris is promised the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen, though she is already wed to Menelaus. He abducts her and sparks the 10 year siege of Troy. Co-starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Diane Kruger.
The more I got to know Menelaus, the more I liked him. He’s one of these poor guys that even though he has a lot going for him, even when he won, he lost.

Troy
Pitt stars in this epic war film based on Homer’s Illiad. As the demigod Achilles, he leads the Greek army to war against the Trojans because of a bet that involved Prince Paris of Troy and Helen, the wife of the Spartan king Menelaus. He challenges Paris’ brother Hector to single combat, kills him, and drags his corpse back to the Greek camp. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger. There’s a real telling line when he says, ‘I want what all men want. I just wanted more.’ There’s a real restlessness, and as I say, an isolation in the guy. Whether he’s running from death, or trying to find himself in a personal glory, he’s at a point where he’s had that glory and that… that hasn’t done it for him.
