Philippine Senate honors
Wurtzbach visits the Philippine Senate for a courtesy call and to receive Senate Resolution 111 congratulating and commending her for giving honor to the country. Senate President Drilon:
For a country that is very proud of the intelligence, talent and beauty of its women, this is indeed a great reason to celebrate. Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach exhibited not only classic Filipina beauty but also intelligence with her response to the final question. I understand that Pia has made the fight against HIV her main advocacy. I can assure you that the Senate is one with you in this campaign. We will look on legislation that will boost this campaign. We also have a champion. Our very own Pia, Senator Pia Cayetano.
On Wurtzbach joining politics, Drilon:
Given her politically conscious responses to the questions, I am not surprised. You know the question was very political – the presence of the American bases, the presence of American troops, the matter of the HIV, her views on a number of critical issues. I have advised her that if she’s really interested in joining government, she would be a very strong advocate of issues that she has expressed her opinions on. And, I advised her to first try her hand in some appointed position where she can push her advocacy, rather than join the politics in an elections.
Homecoming parade
Crowds of people come out to show support for Wurtzbach, who brought home the Miss Universe crown after 42 years, at a homecoming parade through Manila. The model wears a green terno and waves the Philippine flag from her float which resembles her crown.
I hope I can be an inspiration to all of you, not to give up and to always keep studying and respect your parents and treat each other fairly.
Miss Philippines wins Miss Universe 2015 after mix-up
In the final stages of the 64th annual competition for Miss Universe in Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, Harvey initially reads Miss Colombia as winner. After she is crowned however, Harvey returns to the stage and corrects himself.

Wins 2015 BMW M award
Marquez wins the BMW M Award for the third time in a row, and receives a BMW M6 convertible. Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner have also won the award three times. The BMW M Award is calculated based on qualifying positions. Pole position is rewarded with 25 points, second place on the grid earns 20 points and third place scores 16 points – right down to one point for 15th. The rider with the most points at the end of the season wins the Award. Marquez:
I am really happy to have won the BMW M Award for third time in a row. For us riders, this award is always something special. The BMW M6 is a great car and I like the acceleration and the handling. The fact that it is the BMW M6 Convertible makes this prize even more special. It is the first time that I won a convertible car and for me living in Spain, this is just perfect. I can’t wait to get in the car and drive it.

Receives Mark Twain prize
The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Murphy with the Mark Twain Prize, which honors those who influence society in the tradition of Samuel Clemens. Murphy calls the prize a “tremendous honor.”

Esquire’s ‘Sexiest Woman Alive’
Esquire gives its cover to Clarke for its annual Sexiest Woman Alive issue. In the interview she says she had to look up the Game of Thrones series online before auditioning for the role.
I had two scenes which told me nothing and not very much time in which to read all those [George R.R. Martin] books. So I did what every good actor does and Wikipedia’d the living crap out of it.

2014 National Medal of Arts
King receives the 2104 National Medal of Arts from President Obama for “combining storytelling with analysis of human nature”. Other recipients include Sally Fields and Alice Waters.
Chevaliers of the Legion of Honor
In a ceremony at France’s Elysée Palace, French President Hollande makes Roseburg, Stone and Sadler Chevaliers of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest decoration. Hollande says the four men had averted a catastrophe when they tackled and trussed a heavily armed man who had opened fire on the train. He says their coolness under fire was a lesson to all of France — and the world.
You have shown that in the face of terror, you can resist. So you have given us a lesson of courage, of determination and therefore of hope. There were over 500 passengers on that train. Ayoub el-Khazzani possessed over 300 bullets. And we realize now how close we were to a tragedy and a massacre.

Accepts ESPYS’ Arthur Ashe Courage Award
Jenner accepts the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYS, in talks about support for transgendered youth:
Real truth is before few months ago, I’ve never met anyone else who was trans. Never. As you saw, I dealt with my situation on my own, in private. But all across the world, there are young people coming to terms with being transgender. They’re trying to figure out how to handle that. They’re getting bullied. They’re getting murdered. And they’re committing suicide. This is the reality of what it’s like being trans today…My plea for you tonight is to join me in making this one of your issues as well. How do we start? Start with education. Learn as much as you can about another person. I know the people in this room have respect for hard work. I trained hard. I competed hard. And for that, people respected me. But this transition has been harder for me than anything I could have imagined. Trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect.
It is an honor to have the word courage associated with my life. Another word I have is fortunate. I owe a lot to sports. It has given me an identity. If someone wanted to bully me [back then], it didn’t matter because I was the MVP. Same thing goes tonight. If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead, I can take it. But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it. So for the people wondering what this is all about — courage, controversy, publicity, it’s about what happens from here… its not just about one person. It’s about thousands. Not just me, all of us. Accepting one another. We’re all different and that’s not a bad thing. That’s a good thing. While it may not be easy to get past, it is possible if we do it together. Wins Asia’s Next Top Model
Gani wins the Asia’s Next Top Model competition, beating Marlene Monika Sta Maria from the Philippines and Aimee Rose Cheng-Bradshaw from Singapore in the final round. The judges favor Gani for her performance in a photo shoot and runway walk wearing haute couture dresses.
I feel so proud, naturally, to be the first Indonesian winner, and I hope Indonesia will win again.
Wins The Voice

I just thought, ‘This is going to be a good learning experience.’ I’d never done any kind of audition thing before. So that’s kind of how I went into it, just seeing where it takes me…It was definitely a really big culture shock for me, moving from a farm to the city. Since I’m quite a bit of an introvert, it’s really hard for me to do interviews and that kind of stuff. The performing was really easy for me, just because I’ve always been performing; I do a lot of farmers’ markets and gigs like that. So that was the part where I was the least nervous, when I was up onstage singing. I was more nervous in the interviews, although I’m not as nervous now. I’m definitely getting more comfortable with all this stuff. I’ve come out of my shell through this whole entire experience.
On his plans for the future:
I would not move to L.A.; I love my home back on the farm. I would visit L.A., but it would never be my home. I can take trips and stay in hotels for a while, but I always want to have a farm to come back to.
