Leave Me Alone

Jackson releases Leave Me Alone from The Essential Michael Jackson. The song is composed, written and produced by Jackson. It highlights all of the negative stories and slander that was written about Jackson by the tabloid and broadcast media, including stories about sleeping in a gas chamber and purchasing the ‘Elephant Man’s’ bones.

It’s not true. It’s like looking at a fictitious movie because it’s fiction. It’s science fiction. It’s not true. I know myself and it’s sad when other people have to read those things and they believe it. I know eventually the truth will prevail and I’m about truth.

Bad Medicine

The band releases, Bad Medicine, from, New Jersey. For the song’s music video, Bon Jovi gives 250 fans hand held cameras and film and tells them to shoot the band in concert the way they see them:

We told them to film whatever they wanted and, if it was good, we’d use it in the video, and take the ten people who’d shot the best stuff on the road with us in California this year, they could come along with us in the jet and be like a member of the band.
I was hoping they’d goof off a bit more, that they’d take the cameras out in the hallways and film their shoes, go film anything they wanted plus the stage. These kids turned up with their own lights, trusses, tripods, assistants and all that s–t, ‘cos they all wanted to be the ones that go on the road with us.

Jackson releases Smooth Criminal the seventh single from the Bad album. The song is written, produced and sung by Jackson and originally inspired by a classic western. The song is about a gangster who breaks into a woman named Annie’s apartment and kills her right before she is smitten by his suave personality. Jackson wanted the dance moves for the music video to express the sadness and anger from the criminal activity.

I want the music to dictate the way we feel…it’s gotta dictate our emotions. We expressing the way everybody feels. We’re looking at what you always wanted to say to the world. Passion anger and fire.

The band releasesDude (Looks Like A Lady), from their album, Permanent Vacation. Co-writer, Desmond Child:

Joe (Perry) stepped in and said, ‘I don’t want to insult the gay community.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’m gay, and I’m not insulted. Let’s write this song.’ So I talked them into the whole scenario of a guy that walks into a strip joint and falls in love with the stripper on stage, goes backstage and finds out it’s a guy. But besides that, he’s gonna go with it. He says, ‘My funky lady, I like it, like it, like it like that.’ And so he doesn’t run out of there, he stays.

I don’t know where that came from. I don’t know where San Pedro is. At that point, I wasn’t a person who went on holidays to beautiful islands. I may have been on the way to the studio and seen an exit ramp for San Pedro.
