Bergdahl ‘should have been executed’
In a rally in Las Vegas’s Treasure Island hotel, Trump says Bergdahl should have been executed.
We’re tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who’s a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed. Thirty years ago he would have been shot.
Bergdahl’s lawyer:
[Trump] has become a broken record on this subject…If he took the time to study what actually emerged at the preliminary hearing he would be singing a different tune.
Takes credit for McCarthy drop
At a campaign event in Las Vegas, Trump says he is partly responsible for McCarthy’s decision to drop his bid to become speaker.
They’re giving me a lot of credit for that because I said you really need someone very, very, tough and very smart. You know, smart goes with tough. I know tough people that aren’t smart. That’s the worst. We need smart, we need tough, we need the whole package.
Water and ice found
NASA says that Pluto has traces of water and ice on its surface. Red-colored frozen surface water is confirmed by combining spectral infrared and visible light data taken by two of New Horizons’ image sensors. The agency also releases a picture of Pluto’s blue sky, which is caused by tiny, sunlight-scattering particles in the atmosphere. Those particles probably begin as molecular nitrogen (which Pluto is constantly emitting) and other trace gases.
Opposes TTP
In an interview with Woodruff on PBS NewsHour, Clinton says she opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal, a deal she backed while she was Secretary of State. She says it fails to create good jobs, raise wages and advance national security.
What I know about it, as of today I’m not in favor of what I’ve learned about it…I still believe in the goal of a strong and fair trade agreement in the Pacific as part of a broader strategy both at home and abroad, just as I did when I was Secretary of State. I appreciate the hard work that President Obama and his team put into this process and recognize the strides they made. But the bar here is very high and, based on what I have seen, I don’t believe this agreement has met it.
Time Out interview
In an interview with Time Out, Craig says he would rather kill himself than play James Bond again.
Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on. [Later] If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.’
On who should be next:
Look, I don’t give a f—. Good luck to them. All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better.
He also has advice for the next person to play the role:
Don’t be shit. You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be shit.
Infowars interview
Drudge is interviewed by Jones on The Alex Jones’ Show. He discusses Hillary Clinton’s health, copyright law and the 2016 contenders. On Clinton:
She’s old and she’s sick. She’s not a contender. They’re making her a contender with these propped-up Saturday Night Light things. It’s like a head on a stick…Trump comes along, says a few things — just a few things! — and soars to the top of the list. That’s profound. Imagine if we actually had a good selection of candidates who were saying a lot. And I know Cruz and Rand and all the rest. … Where it’s going to end up, I don’t know. I’m very pessimistic — I’m very pessimistic — on this race because I’m just not sure it’s not going to end up with the dreaded brain in the jar in the Oval Office once known as Hillary Clinton.
On the media:
Drudge [Report], to me, when I look at it right now is a correction to this groupthink. There’s no difference from any of these websites. You go up and down — we talk about this — what’s the difference between the websites? Between a Slate or a Salon or a BuzzFeed or a HuffPo — what is the difference? There isn’t any! And this is travesty. It’s almost like a weird conglomerate of groupthink that has developed in a dynamic era that should be vibrating.
You thought Obamacare was shocking? You thought some of these other decisions were shocking? Wait until these copyright laws work their way up and the Supreme Court decides you cannot have a website with news headlines linking across the board. Then that will end for me. Fine, I’ve had a hell of a run.
Studio mogul made aggressive sexual advances
In an interview with Variety, Judd says that a well-known movie studio boss made aggressive sexual advances to her in 1997.
He groomed me, which is a technical term — Oh, come meet at the hotel for something to eat. Fine, I show up. Oh, he’s actually in his room. I’m like, Are you kidding me? I just worked all night. I’m just going to order cereal. It went on in these stages. It was so disgusting. He physically lured me by saying, “Oh, help me pick out what I’m going to wear.” There was a lot that happened between the point of entry and the bargaining. There was this whole process of bargaining—“Come do this, come do this, come do this.” And I would say, “No, no, no.” I have a feeling if this is online and people have the opportunity to post comments, a lot of the people will say, “Why didn’t you leave the room?”, which is victim-blaming. When I kept saying no to everything, there was a huge asymmetry of power and control in that room…The ultimate thing when I was weaseling out of everything else was, ‘Will you watch me take a shower?’

Became U.S. citizen ‘for tax reasons’
In an interview with The Sunday Times Blunt says she became a U.S. citizen for practical purposes.
It’s mainly for tax reasons. I didn’t want to renounce my Queen…The thing that’s weird is I do get to keep both my British citizenship and this, but you have to renounce her. So, it’s kind of typically American — not to be rude — but I had to renounce her in the room but I don’t actually, technically renounce her. They were like, ‘Just say it. You don’t have to mean it, but just say it.’..You have to learn all about the Constitution. You can’t be a habitual drunk, you can’t be on a guerrilla squad and you can’t be a prostitute, which is a shame.
Employee memo honors Jobs
On the fourth anniversary of Jobs’ death, Cook sends a memo to Apple employees.
Each year since his passing, I have reminded everyone in the Apple community that we share the privilege and responsibility of continuing the work Steve loved so much…What is his legacy? I see it all around us: An incredible team that embodies his spirit of innovation and creativity. The greatest products on earth, beloved by customers and empowering hundreds of millions of people around the world. Soaring achievements in technology and architecture. Experiences of surprise and delight. A company that only he could have built. A company with an intense determination to change the world for the better.
‘Black Lives Matter’ cup apology
A police officer buying a coffee at a Rhode Island Dunkin’ Donuts says that the employee serving him seemed “somewhat rude and appeared as though they did not want to serve the officer.” He later discovers that the employee had written “#blacklivesmatter” on the cup. Police union:
The negativity displayed by the #Blacklivesmatter organization towards police across this nation is creating a hostile environment that is not resolving any problems or issues, but making it worse for our communities. They are doing this by increasing tensions amongst police and the people they serve.
DD:
The franchise owner has apologized to the police officer on behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts, and he has counseled the employee about her behavior.
Would go to prison to return to US
In an interview with BBC’s Panorama Snowden says he has offered to return to the United States and go to jail for leaking details of NSA programs, but had not received a formal plea-deal offer.
[I’ve] volunteered to go to prison with the government many times… So far they’ve said they won’t torture me, which is a start, I think. But we haven’t gotten much further than that…The question is, if I was a traitor, who did I betray? I gave all of my information to American journalists and free society generally. I have paid a price but I feel comfortable with the decisions I’ve made. If I’m gone tomorrow, I’m happy with what I had. I feel blessed.
Claim: Most transparent person in US history
At a town hall in Iowa, Clinton claims she is the most transparent person in U.S. history.
I have gone further than anybody that I’m aware of in American history. Now it’s not a long history since we haven’t had emails that long–as long as we’ve had them, I’ve gone longer and farther to be as transparent as possible. Nobody else has done that. [I’m] a little embarrassed that the emails are so boring.

Father blames access to guns
Mercer’s father, Ian Mercer, says he doesn’t know where his son got his weapons.
How on earth could he compile 13 guns? How could that happen? We talk about gun laws. We talk about gun control. Every time something like this happens, they talk about it and nothing gets done. I’m not trying to say that that’s to blame for what happened, but if Chris had not been able to get hold of 13 guns, this wouldn’t have happened…It has to change. How can it not? Even people that believe in the right to bear arms, what right do you have to take people’s lives? That’s what guns are, the killers. Simple as that. Simple as that. It’s black and white. What do you want a gun for?
On his son’s mental state:
Obviously, somebody who goes and kills nine people has to have some kind of issue. Whatever it is, let the police determine what they find.
Says armed teachers would have stopped killings
At a campaign event in Franklin, Tennessee, Trump tells the audience he supports the Second Amendment.
By the way, it was a gun-free zone. Let me tell you, if you had a couple teachers with guns in that room, you would have been a hell of a lot better off…The Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that belongs to all law-abiding Americans. The Constitution doesn’t create that right — it ensures that the government can’t take it away…Our Founding Fathers knew and our Supreme Court has upheld that the the Second Amendment purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. In fact, I have a license to carry in New York, can you believe that? Nobody knows that. Can you imagine? Somebody says, ‘There’s Trump, he’s easy pickings.’ What’d you’d say?”
Trump then mimics holding a gun with his hand.
Tried to board flight as James T. Kirk
Salmond says that British Airways refused to let him on the plane at Heathrow because the name on his ticket, James T. Kirk (the name of the StarShip Enterprise’s commander, played by William Shatner in Star Trek) – didn’t match that in his passport. Salmond said, as a fan of the show, he had been using the name to travel incognito for years. But since resigning as First Minister he no longer travelled with protection officers who could explain the ruse. After some emails and calls to his staff, Salmond was allowed on the flight.
It was all sorted out. I just wanted BA to ‘Beam me up, Scotty’.

The Douglas County sheriff says autopsy results showed that Mercer died by suicide.
