Emilia Clark Esquire sexiest coverEsquire gives its cover to Clarke for its annual Sexiest Woman Alive issue. In the interview she says she had to look up the Game of Thrones series online before auditioning for the role.

Defends Clinton on emails

Makes Statement0 Comments

At the first Democratic debate, Sanders defends Clinton over her email controversy.

Clinton: I’ve taken responsibility for it. I did say it was a mistake. I have been as transparent as I know to be, turning over 55,000 pages of my e-mails, asking that they be made public. [I’d rather spend my time talking about] the issues that matter to the American people
Sanders: Let me say — let me say something that may not be great politics. But I think the secretary is right, and that is that the American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.
Clinton: Thank you. Me, too. Me, too.

The two then exchange a friendly handshake.

(Democratic Debate) Sanders: 'People are sick of hearing about Clinton's emails'

Stops charging for fetal tissue program

Makes Statement0 Comments

Planned Parenthood announces it will stop accepting reimbursements for fetal tissue donations used for medical research. Richards says the move is to debunk GOP attacks:

In order to completely debunk the disingenuous argument that our opponents have been using – and to reveal the true political purpose of these attacks – our Federation has decided, going forward, that any Planned Parenthood health center that is involved in donating tissue after an abortion for medical research will follow the model already in place at one of our two affiliates currently facilitating donations for fetal tissue research…Going forward, all of our health centers will follow the same policy, even if it means they will not recover reimbursements permitted by the 1993 law…[This decision is meant] to take away any basis for attacking Planned Parenthood to advance an anti-abortion political agenda.

Ebony interview

Interview0 Comments

Ebony interviews Carter on the status of Blacks in tech.

You know the Jay-Z saying, “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t (laughs)?” This is a key point of that. Numbers show that there are not that many brothers and sisters in this field, and it takes the brothers and sister that are in already to help open those doors. We need to have that real, honest conversation on why the numbers are so low…I can say I’ve never felt overtly discriminated against in tech, or that I’ve walked from a meeting saying that someone was undeniably racist. But when you have companies like Twitter where 25% or more of your users are African American, but your employee base is in the very low single digits, that speaks volumes of your hiring practices and your thoughts on our community. I don’t think it’s said that ‘we aren’t hiring Blacks,’ but people are known to hire in their networks. So if you didn’t go to Harvard, or weren’t in this social club, or aren’t a member of this fraternity or sorority, you won’t have the same access as someone who shares the same exact resume as you do. We just have to get plugged into the networks.

Won’t vote for a woman president

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid for the show, The Whoolywood Shuffle, T.I. says he will not vote for Hillary Clinton, or any other woman to be president.

Not to be sexist…Just because every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But the president, it’s kind of like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally — they make very permanent, cemented decisions — and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen or they didn’t mean for it to happen…And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. … [Leaders of other countries] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy. The world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to get the Loch Ness Monster elected before you could [a woman]. It’s not right.

He says he likes Donald Trump but will not vote for him.

[He’s] interesting, and I feel he is the best showman of them all. And I do feel that if he is sincerely concerned about the economy of America and the working public, he would be the best person to flip the money that we have, take it and flip it. [But] His racist remarks, all of his off-color statements, it makes it impossible to be, like, completely supportive of him.

Drops nudes

Makes Statement0 Comments

As part of a redesign that will be unveiled in March 2016 , the print edition of Playboy drops images of nude women, although it will still feature women in provocative poses.

CEO Flanders:

You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.

As a result of dropping nudity from its website in 2014, executives say the average age of its reader dropped from 47 to just over 30, and its web traffic jumped to about 16 million from about four million unique users per month. The magazine continues to make a loss of $3 million/year, but is seen as a storefront for the brand.

Police removed from Ecuadorian embassy

Makes Statement0 Comments

After 40 months, UK police call off their 24-hour surveillance of the Ecuadorian embassy. The cost of the operation is over $17 million. Police:

[It is] no longer proportionate to commit officers to a permanent presence…The MPS will not discuss what form its continuing operation will take or the resourcing implications surrounding it. Whilst no tactics guarantee success in the event of Julian Assange leaving the embassy, the MPS will deploy a number of overt and covert tactics to arrest him.

WikiLeaks spokesperson:

My interpretation is that it has not been lifted. They are calling off the uniformed presence but escalating the covert operation and will arrest him if he steps out off the embassy.

Business Insider interview

Interview0 Comments

In an interview with Business Insider, Carter explained that his investing style is largely based around “feel.”

I’m a simple guy. I know a lot of investors use a lot of analytics in their diligence process, and for me it’s about feel. It’s how do I feel about the idea, how do I feel about the entrepreneur. It’s the same thing that gave me an advantage to being an artist manager. Because it’s all feel. You’re not operating with a lot of data, so you get to feel out people…I want to know your background; I want to know your dynamic; I want to know how long you guys have known each other. If you’re partners on the show, I want to know how long you guys have known each other. I want to know how you guys make decisions together — that tells me a lot about how the business is going to be run.

Case review

Interview0 Comments

Motherboard’s Jeong reviews the case and interviews both Keys and the prosecutor about the outcome. Keys:

[My] only crime is committing the act of journalism…Everything I’ve done since Day 1 as a journalist has been in the interest of the public. That hasn’t changed. The charges didn’t change that, the conviction won’t change that, either.

US Attorney:

The evidence at trial was that Matthew Keys gave a malicious online hacking group super-user credentials to the Los Angeles Times, and told them to… mess stuff up [actually “go f-ck some shit up]. And what he did after that when they didn’t mess stuff up enough to his liking, is that he took a link to an article that the Los Angeles Times had published, and said that this is why the Los Angeles Times must be ‘demolished.’ I don’t understand how any person, journalist or not, could consider that journalism or promoting the First Amendment. That is a serious threat to all the things that the First Amendment is supposed to protect.

Rolling Stone interview

Interview0 Comments

Mayer and Weir are interviewed by Rolling Stone, about their upcoming tour together as Dead & Company. The band started discussing the tour with Mayer in January but did not book it until after the Grateful Dead’s highly successful Fare Thee Well gigs with Phish in Santa Clara, California and Chicago. Mayer:

I remember writing Bob afterward going, ‘Hey, enjoy the afterglow. To be quite honest, those [Dead & Company] dates came out in groupings not because we were trying to stage this really high-energy, suspenseful plot of dates — we were putting them together as they were coming out.

Mayer says he has been practicing nonstop, attending what he calls “Grateful Dead University.”

You have to understand that particular song’s flow. And then I pick up the guitar and find out kind of where it lives on the fretboard, and then I sort of go a little deeper. Each song gets that layered thing, so that by the time I really know it, I know how the song goes, what the sort of guitar approach is, but then also what the sort of ethic of the song is…Grateful Dead songs are so much fun to play. And some of them are as fun as they are hard to play. Part of the challenge is not disappearing into how much fun it is — [where] you forget that this is actually a highly complex composition.

Weir:

John’s enthusiasm for this is amazing — I couldn’t believe it,” he says. “He learned the songs, has great enthusiasm, and he’s a great guitar player. So he fits in perfectly.

In a rally in Las Vegas’s Treasure Island hotel, Trump asks Colombian immigrant and Las Vegas resident Myriam Witcher up onto the stage, who had with her a copy of People magazine featuring Trump on the cover. Witcher:

I love Mr. Trump! I am Hispanic, and I vote for Mr. Trump!”

Trump, who says he had never met her before, tells her “you are beautiful,” autographs the magazine and gives her a hug and a kiss.

That’s my relationship with Hispanics.

In an interview before the rally, Witcher says she supports Trump’s plan to deport all immigrants here without legal status. She says she had to wait five years for a visa and that she and her family have “respect for the Constitution and rules.”

I’m Hispanic, Latina, and I love me some Trump. He’s the perfect man, a businessman.
