Rossi: I was ‘screwed’ by Marquez
In an interview with Motosprint, Rossi says he had no choice but to speak out against Marquez after Sepang 2015.
I have thought long and hard on what had happened. I also thought that perhaps it would have been better not to do it, but I had to, because I had realised that I was screwed. It would have been already difficult to beat Lorenzo in a normal situation, but when Marquez went against me, I realised I got screwed. With that press conference, more than trying to intimidate Marquez, I tried to call for the attention of race direction, in order to sort out this thing. We had tried to talk to race direction, but they didn’t listen to us, so I tried this other way. I think they underestimated the problem, because what happened is something no one had expected: I didn’t, and neither did they, so when we told them, they looked at us wondering ‘what’s behind this?’ It could have been avoided by talking together in Malaysia.
While he expects to maintain a working relationship with Lorenzo, Rossi still wonders about Marquez’s tactics.
It was completely clear what his intentions were, with the Valencia race [when Marquez finished second to Lorenzo] being the cherry on top. Anyway… it is not very important, in the sense that our relationship, after what had happened, can never be restored. We’ll have to be only rivals, but I would like us to be able to focus on that, more than on nonsense such as ‘let’s shake hands, let’s not. I prefer doing real things, that’s the way.
Coulthard: Hamilton’s social life could hinder F1 hat-trick bid
At an event in London to promote Channel 4’s presenting team for the F1 season, Coulthard talks about Hamilton’s focus.
It seems crazy to question whether Lewis can win another title, given that he’s won the last two, but you have to ask where his energy is going. He splits his time between F1 and being a global star – the car and the music. We’re all waiting to see when the album will drop…There’s no question that Lewis is fit and focused when he’s at the racetrack. But he does have a full-on social life away from grand prix racing. And throwing in the American dream. We all know it’s not easy jumping on and off aircraft. Is this the year that’s going to take its toll? I don’t know. I hope not…It’s not a criticism. It’s an observation, in admiration. That he’s been somehow able to find this happy place, of driving quickly and going off and doing other things. The bottom line is I’m jealous. He’s faster than I was and he gets to go to some really cool parties.
Redbull interview
Marquez talks about his preparation for the 2016 season with Redbull.com.
I try to give 100 percent in every season, but this season comes with bigger challenges, especially because we didn’t nail the championship in 2015. I have to work harder…At the tests in Malaysia and Australia [in February] I focused on my physical condition and tried to adjust and understand the new bike’s electronics, and find the balance in the set-up of the bike…I know this season will be difficult, but of course the first race is very exciting. It’s always different, and here in Qatar, it’s very special…I’d say Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa are my main opponents this year, but you never know who else could surprise you.
His favorite quote:
No pain, no gain!
Halo is ‘worst-looking mod in F1 history’
Hamilton says the ‘halo’ head protection device is “too drastic” and wants to be able to choose whether to use it.
Please no! This is the worst-looking mod in F1 history. I understand safety is a huge issue and something we have to work towards, but this is not the one…[F1 cars have] lost the cool look they used to have in the 1980s and 1990s. It is not F1 for me. If they do implement it, I hope we have a choice of whether we have to use it and are not forced to, because ultimately it is our safety.
‘Dungeons & Dragons helped Witch Hunter role’
In an interview with The Daily Star, for the DVD launch of The Last Witch Hunter, Diesel says he was banned from going to the gym by his director, so that he could look more like he’d been born back in the 13th century.
I haven’t come across that in a long time. They said that I could look strong, but I could look a little bit more everyman too. I think some directors just want me to go against type – it’s how they want to play with my characters.
He also says his lifelong love of Dungeons & Dragons helped him in the role:
I’m a huge fan of Dungeons And Dragons and I even wrote the foreward for its 30th anniversary book. It’s something that was a big part of my life and it’s probably affected the way I approach making and producing movies. It played a huge part in this film; I haven’t done anything in the fantasy genre before…Well, I was raised by a mother who was an astrologer. And I believe you have to be receptive to all kinds of things and that includes the supernatural. I believe that my love of fantasy and Dungeons And Dragons allows me to be open-minded.
Hamilton: Rossi is ‘incredible’
Hamilton declares himself a fan of Rossi:
I really need to try a MotoGP bike because MotoGP is so cool and more exciting to watch I would say and is closer racing. Valentino is incredible and is my favourite as he is for a lot of people. There are also a lot of other great riders and I definitely want to make it to more races this year as I’ve only been to one a season. This year I will try and make it to more and I’m dying to get on the back of one [bike] at least. I just won’t tell my team!
UFC 196: Post-fight press conference
Diaz and McGregor talk at the post-fight press conference. McGregor:
It’s a bitter pill to swallow. I took a shot, I went at it. I feel I was inefficient with my energy. Usually I fight a man in the division I am champion in, and they crumble under those shots. But Nate took them well. The weight allowed him to take those shots well…It was simply a battle of energy and he got the better of that.
Diaz:
I knew I was the superior boxer, the superior martial artist, the superior Jiu-jitsu…so nothing surprised me, except that I got hit at all…The last few years I’ve been curious when it was going to pay off, and this is the time.
UFC 196: Backstage interview
McGregor is interviewed backstage, after the fight, by Fox Sports.
It stings real bad..I’ve been on the end of many defeats in my life and I rose back. I will not shy away from it. I will not make excuses for it. I will assess it and come back…I misinterpreted his efficiency. I blew out and he did not. He went into autopilot, while I panicked a little bit.
On Jose Aldo:
I’ve seen the Jose thing. He can celebrate through another man’s victory, but at the day when we faced he was unconscious. That’s not the sign of a true champion…When I defeated him I showed him respect. Maybe I’ll go back down and shut him up one more time.
UFC 196: Octagon interview
Diaz and McGregor are interviewed directly after the fight. Diaz:
I’m not surprised…I know it was gonna be a slow start for me…He had some good punches, and he landed them, so good on him…I’m an athlete, a warrior, we should all be ready to fight, even on our worst days.
McGregor:
I took the chance going at 170. I felt I took him in the first round…but I was inefficient with my energy. I’m humble in victory and in defeat…I took a chance, came up weight, it didn’t work out. I’ll face it like a man, like a champion, and come back and do it again.
Romney was ‘begging for my endorsement’
Trump responds to Romney’s speech at an event in Portland, Maine.
That was a race that should have been won…Mitt is a failed candidate…He failed horribly…You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement… I could have said Mitt, drop to your knees, he would have dropped to his knees…Mitt is indeed a choke artist. He choked like I’ve never seen anyone choke. Other than Rubio.
Responds to Romney’s Trump criticism
Palin defends Trump against Romney on Facebook:
The “machine’s” deception and nonsensical attack on Trump isn’t really an attack on the candidate, it’s an attack on conscientious, hardworking, patriotic Americans who know we need a revolution to stop the complicit politicians who are fundamentally transforming America. We found the revolutionary…Donald Trump is the shock the Permanent Political Class needs to wake them up… to destroy their selfish cabal… to respect the will of the people… to make America safe and solvent… to make America great again. Don’t take the bait, Mr. Trump. It’s not about you. It’s about us. And we’ve got your back.

LAist interview
Sulkowicz talks about her upcoming show in LA’s Chinatown. On the creation of multiple 3D figure of her image:
The idea is that I’ve been so widely publicized in the media, which was completely unexpected and unprecedented for me. I’ve seen my image become so mass-produced. Now, if anyone wants to mention anything about campus rape, they’ll invoke my name even if I’m only marginally related to what they’re talking about. My image has sort of become this currency that you use if you want to talk about anything related to these topics.
On her appearance with Emmatron, her life-size robot that answers question on her behalf:
I’ll be there during gallery hours every day that it’s open, and I’ll just be doing my thing. You can come talk with me. You can ask me whatever you want. [Emmatron] is a separation between me as a human being versus this sort of way that people can treat me as if I’m a robot when they ask me very repetitive, insensitive questions…The truth is that I was never able to cope [with Internet harassment]. It’s not like any amount of support was going to cancel out that people were Facebook messaging me to kill myself…It’s been fun to record these questions for Emmatron, and I think that she’ll be fun to play with, if you know what I mean. She’ll have fun things to say. Hopefully, the end result is lively and entertaining, but I’m also trying to drive home a serious point.
Picks 2015-style bike after second test
After setting the fifth-fastest time on the final test day at Phillip Island, Rossi says he will stick with a Yamaha YZR-M1 based on the 2015 bike, rather than developing the ’16 version.
In the end we only had one good day and that was yesterday, but it’s better than nothing. Today we continued our job for a bit, especially we compared the two different bikes and I think we will use the bike that’s more similar to last year’s model. It was a positive test, especially yesterday, but also today. I feel good with the bike and with the tyres and my pace was not so bad, so I’m quite satisfied.
Vatican: not personal attack
A Vatican spokesperson tells Vatican Radio that Pope Francis’ suggestion that Trump was ‘not Christian’ because of his views on immigration was not a personal attack on the candidate, and that the comments were simply an affirmation of Francis’ longstanding belief that migrants should be helped and welcomed rather than shut off behind walls.
This wasn’t in any way a personal attack, nor an indication of who to vote for. The Pope has clearly said he didn’t want to get involved in the electoral campaign in the US, and also said that he said what he said on the basis of what he was told [about Trump], hence giving him the benefit of the doubt. The Pope said what we already know, if we followed his teaching and positions: We shouldn’t build walls, but bridges.’ He has always said that, continuously. He also said that in relation to migration in Europe many times. So this is not a specific issue, limited to this particular case. It’s his generic view, coherent with the nature of solidarity from the Gospel.
Pope ‘has awfully big wall’
In an interview with CNN’s Cooper, Trump says the Pope’s comments were probably overblown by the media.
I didn’t think it was a good thing for him to say, frankly. I don’t like fighting with the Pope. I don’t think this is a fight…I think it was probably a little bit nicer statement than was reported by you folks in the media. Because after I read it, it was a little bit softer…I think that he heard one side of the story, which is probably by the Mexican government…But the bottom line is we’ve got to have a border, we’ve got to have security. We have tremendous illegal immigration in the country. He also talked about [how] having a wall is not Christian. And he’s got an awfully big wall at the Vatican, I will tell you.
Responds to Pope: ‘Disgraceful’
Trump responds to the Pope’s comments.
If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.
The Mexican government and its leadership has made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States, both on trade and at the border, and they understand I am totally wise to them. The Pope only heard one side of the story – he didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. He doesn’t see how Mexican leadership is outsmarting President Obama and our leadership in every aspect of negotiation.
For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.
Responds to Beck
Palin posts to Facebook to respond to Beck’s criticisms of Trump and herself.
Ted Cruz’s star spokesman and campaign partner, Glenn Beck, promises he will support a socialist vs. the pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, pro-growth, pro-American GOP front runner… what’s conservative about that?..Beck will go ballistic after reading this post and will ramp up his unjustified attacks against Donald Trump, me, my faith, and you – for acknowledging all this I’ve outlined, in his own words… what’s smart about that?
Pope says Trump ‘Not Christian’
At the end of his six-day visit to Mexico, Pope Francis is asked about Trump’s plan to build a border wall with Mexico.
A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel…I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
Phillip Island Day 2: ‘Good from beginning to end’
Rossi improves his performance on the second day of testing, finishing fourth.
Yesterday I did just 7-8 laps, but the first impression was bad and I was a bit worried. But today, with good conditions, already from this morning I was able to go fast and have a good feeling. It is different to ride [with Michelins], but at the same time I like it. It is very funny. This is important. It was a good day from beginning to end. I always stayed [near the top]. At the end I am fourth, but the distance from first position is very close and also I didn’t put new tyres at the end. We will see tomorrow if we can improve. Also the good thing is that we always made progress, step-by-step. We improved quite a lot.
Rossi also says that he is getting used to the balance of his Michelin tires.
For me the front is still a little bit worse compared to Bridgestone but the rear is better. So on balance it is very similar.
City AM interview
Highfield says of the £24.4m acquisition of the i newspaper from Evgeny Lebedev. He intends to build the brand’s digital presence, increase the distribution of the print edition, targeting small- and medium-sized retailers like post offices and newsagents, and expand to all areas of the UK, including Northern Ireland, where the paper is not currently sold. He will improve editorial by taking 17 existing members of staff and hiring others to form a team of 50. The paper will also draw content from Lebedev’s The Independent’s website and the Evening Standard for £850,000 a year, as well as from Johnston Group’s regional papers. Highfield says that the purchase is about building scale for Johnston Press and attracting bigger advertising. He says scaling by acquiring small regional media groups would have taken a long time and been very expensive.
We are in one quarter of the country and we want to be in all of it, not least because this is a scale game and we wanted to go after more national advertising revenue and have a bigger train set across which to offer our digital services. I’ve always had a fundamental belief that video didn’t kill the radio star. New technology comes along, but it rarely wipes out what came before it. I think people will still want print for many years to come.
