President Obama says he and Michelle are grieving alongside the Biden family.

Michelle and I are grieving tonight.  Beau Biden was a friend of ours.  His beloved family – Hallie, Natalie, and Hunter – are friends of ours.  And Joe and Jill Biden are as good as friends get…Beau took after Joe.  He studied the law, like his dad, even choosing the same law school.  He chased a life of public service, like his dad, serving in Iraq and as Delaware’s Attorney General.  Like his dad, Beau was a good, big-hearted, devoutly Catholic and deeply faithful man, who made a difference in the lives of all he touched – and he lives on in their hearts…But for all that Beau Biden achieved in his life, nothing made him prouder; nothing made him happier; nothing claimed a fuller focus of his love and devotion than his family…Beau Biden believed the best of us all.  For him, and for his family, we swing our lanterns higher…Michelle and I humbly pray for the good Lord to watch over Beau Biden, and to protect and comfort his family here on Earth.

Plant pays tribute to King.

His was the voice of my coming of age – dramatic, imploring, pained [and] spectacular…I learned his every nuance. I lived in grief and joy in his songs and, crazily much later in time, we became friends.

Writes tribute

Sandberg writes a tribute to her late husband, Goldberg on her Facebook page:

Dave and I did not get nearly enough time together. But as heartbroken as I am today, I am equally grateful. Even in these last few days of completely unexpected hell – the darkest and saddest moments of my life – I know how lucky I have been. If the day I walked down that aisle with Dave someone had told me that this would happen – that he would be taken from us all in just 11 years – I would still have walked down that aisle. Because 11 years of being Dave Goldberg’s wife, and 10 years of being a parent with him is perhaps more luck and more happiness than I could have ever imagined. I am grateful for every minute we had.

As we put the love of my life to rest today, we buried only his body. His spirit, his soul, his amazing ability to give is still with it. It lives on in the stories people are sharing of how he touched their lives, in the love that is visible in the eyes of our family and friends, in the spirit and resilience of our children. Things will never be the same – but the world is better for the years my beloved husband lived.

‘One of the great loves of my life’

Bush pays tribute to her ex-boyfriend Fredinburg.

Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. Fearless. Funny. A dancing robot who liked to ride dinosaurs and chase the sun and envision a better future for the world. His brain knew how to build it. His heart was constantly evolving to push himself to make it so. He was one of my favorite human beings on Earth.

Sweeten’s on screen father Romano pays him tribute.

I am shocked and terribly saddened by the news. He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family and his friends during this very difficult time.

Pays tribute to today’s martyrs

During Palm Sunday’s celebrations, Francis pays tribute to those who have been and who are being killed for their faith, especially referring to victims of ISIS.

We think too of the humiliation endured by all those who, for their lives of fidelity to the Gospel, encounter discrimination and pay a personal price…We think too of our brothers and sisters who are persecuted because they are Christians, the martyrs of our own time. There are many of them. They refuse to deny Jesus and they endure insult and injury with dignity.

I am saddened by the news of the passing of my longtime friend, Rod Hundley. I first met Rod when I was 18 and he encouraged me to attend West Virginia University. We were Laker teammates and never lost contact…Rod was not only a great basketball player, but one of the best play-by-play announcers in the game. He will be missed by all those he touched through his legendary career as will his colorful story-telling.

Hot Rod was the voice of the Utah Jazz for 35 years and his voice was synonymous with Jazz radio. The expressions he used throughout the game broadcasts are legendary. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Hundley family.

After death, sends players $200

In his will, Smith directs his trust to give $200 to every letter winner who played for him during his 36 years at UNC. The checks were sent to about 180 letter winners with a letter saying “enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Dean Smith.”

My wife opened the letter and handed it to me. At first I didn’t know what it was, but when it hit me, it put a tear in my eye. Even after he passed, he was still all about his players.

Memorials added

Cryptic Studios pays tribute to Nimoy by adding two memorials to its game. The first statue can be found on Vulcan, at the fountain where players gathered following the news of Nimoy’s passing. This statue bears the inscription “Live Long and Prosper.” The other statute is located on New Romulus and is inscribed with “The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few.” Both statues also feature a plaque inscribed with the names of other Star Trek contributors who have died.

People will be able to interact with this memorial and read the names, the dates of their birth and passing, and a personal quote where possible. In this small way, we hope to honor the memory and contribution of those who helped shape Star Trek into the cultural touchstone it is today.

Attendees salute Nimoy

Soon after the Expo began, thousands of attendees observed a moment of silence for Nimoy while holding up their hands in a Vulcan salute. Gabriel Fieramosco, the Expo’s marketing manager who led the tribute:

Obviously, when we heard it everybody was floored. We couldn’t do the weekend without acknowledging it in some way. So after discussing it amongst ourselves, we decided that a moment of silence on the floor was the way to do it.

Easton:

He [Nimoy] was deeply talented, worked in charity, and was a great role model for anyone, especially those who love science fiction. Leonard Nimoy’s passing is a major moment. I didn’t realize how universally beloved he was until he died. Just a wide array of people honoring the man.
