It’s impossible to not go to work carrying 5 and 1 and the 12 years with you. This one, the process has been a bit different. We’ve been spending a lot more time tweaking as we go. We haven’t had that in the past. We were originally slated to start this project a while earlier, and it got pushed and then pushed again. And what we were up against was a pre-determined release date.

My daughter Eva got married a few months after we finished filming. Thank God it wasn’t anything like the film! If anything, this movie teaches you what not to do at a wedding.

I love comedy and it’s nice to be able to get away from playing only very intense women. Acting for me is about the beauty of expression and pouring yourself into a character and I can’t hold back – I have to push myself to the limit when I’m working. So it was a pleasant challenge to work with an incredible cast and have a lot of fun being part of that atmosphere. It’s nice not to exhaust yourself all the time.

I thought it was interesting. I liked the character. I liked Justin, the director. And they were getting certain people. Diane Keaton, I was hearing that she was going to be in it, and I thought that would be great.

Oh man, the cast. Forget the cast. The thing is, though, that some of these people are my age, right? And I didn’t know them.

I was fully aware of the notes within the piece that chimed with my own life, having lost a wife to cancer. The road I have travelled means I can understand just about as much as one can understand such tragedy in life.
