Canada takes refugees
Prime Minister Harper pledges Canada will take an additional 10,000 refugees from Iraq and Syria over the next four years if the Conservative government is re-elected in October. Canada has already settled roughly 20,000 Iraqi refugees and 2,500 Syrians. The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada website shows it finalized 19,900 refugee claims from all countries in 2014. A key part of this is Sundar Pichai. Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together. He has really stepped up since October of last year, when he took on product and engineering responsibility for our internet businesses. Sergey and I have been super excited about his progress and dedication to the company. And it is clear to us and our board that it is time for Sundar to be CEO of Google. Cub killed
One of Cecil’s cubs dies after being attacked by another lion. Park official:
One of the eight cubs was killed by a male lion after Cecil was killed. The lionesses fended off his advances but it is unlikely they can continue to protect the cubs for much longer.

Announces retirement

Saad Dawabsheh dies age 32
Dawabsheh’s father dies of wounds sustained in the fire. A postmortem is to be held in Rafidiya hospital in Nablus. A Palestinian official says this will provide evidence for a complaint to the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Saad Dawabsheh will be buried next to his son.

In this drama film directed by Muccino, Russell Crowe plays a father who struggles with his mental breakdown and his grown daughter (Amanda Seyfried) trying to make it on her own and not being influenced by her father’s past. Co-starring Aaron Paul and Diane Kruger.
This kind of movie for me is not only a source of stimulus, but also of concern. It means to gather to compete in a very narrow market of film, no more than four or five per year that will reach the largest audience. Many films are destined to remain at the edge of the market because people do not usually rush to see a drama.

Cousin kills air force official in road rage incident
A cousin of Syria’s president shoots dead a senior air force officer in a road rage incident according to a monitoring group. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the incident happened when the cousin followed the officer because he overtook him at a crossroads, then swerved the car around, got out and shot him dead. The cousin has not been arrested.
Kidnaps 230 civilians
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that ISIS abducted 230 civilians, including at least 60 Christians, in Al-Qaryatain hours after the group captured the town. Many of the Christians had fled from Aleppo province, in Syria’s north, to seek refuge in Al-Qaryatain. SOHR says those abducted were wanted by ISIS for ‘collaborating with the regime’ and their names were on a list used by the jihadists as they swept through the town. Families who tried to flee or hide were tracked down and taken by the jihadists. Al-Qaryatain lies at the crossroads between ISIS territory in the eastern countryside of Homs and areas further west in the Qalamun area.
Gassed during burglary
Button and Michibata are gassed at their St. Tropez villa, while robbers steal belongings worth £300,000. French police believe the gang had been watching the villa for days before letting off a cannister of anaesthetic gas into an air-conditioning vent. The raiders then broke into the luxury mansion and even walked around the couple’s bed while the couple lay unconscious. They took items including Michibata’s £250,000 engagement ring. Three friends who were staying in the villa are also believed to have been rendered unconscious. The group only discovered they had been targeted when they woke up the next morning and found the mansion ransacked and the engagement ring missing. Police have told Jenson they’re convinced the burglars gassed the house using the air conditioning units. Over the past five years, it’s becoming an increasingly common way for top criminals to launch raids on expensive properties in the area without being disturbed. Jenson is convinced that’s what happened too. The burglars were in the same room as him and Jessica, rifling through all their drawers. But they weren’t disturbed at all because the effects of the gas gives the burglars free reign. It was the same for their three other friends — they were all completely out of it.

Aniston and Theroux get married on the third anniversary of their engagement, in a surprise ceremony in front of more than 70 family members and friends at their Bel Air, CA, home. Guests were told the event was a birthday party for Theroux. The celebration started in the late afternoon as valets in blue vests greeted guests VIP guests including Howard Stern, his wife Beth Ostrosky Stern, Samantha Ronson and photographer Terry Richardson, who all arrived in black cars. Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow and comedian Chelsea Handler were also in attendance.

Harerimana, president of the CNDD FDD chapter in Kanyosha, is attacked and killed in Bujumbura. He is heading to his office on the back of a motorbike when a crowd throw stones at him, pull him off the bike and shoot him.

Florida vacation home vandalized
Palmer’s Marco Island, FL, vacation home is vandalized with the the garage door spray painted with the words ‘Lion killer!’ and a handful of orange pig’s feet scattered across the front of the house. Palmer si not at the home and is still in hiding.
Stefani, Rossdale divorce
Stefani files for divorce from Rossdale, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. Rossdale is said to have filed his response at the same time, and both parties are allegedly seeking joint custody of their children. Stefani is not planning on providing Gavin with spousal support.

One dead in Perth shooting
One woman in her thirties dies after a shooting incident in Perth. Police are called to Mayfair Street after gunshots are heard at 2 AM. They arrest two men. The street is cordoned off and forensic experts are also present to investigate. A neighbour:

Adolphe Nshirimana killed in rocket attack
Nshimirimana is killed, along with three bodyguards, in a rocket attack on his car in Bujumbura. Nshimiramana was widely seen as the central African nation’s de facto internal security chief and considered by some as the president’s effective deputy. He was seen as the mastermind behind the crackdown on the protests as well as a key player in foiling the coup attempt. The presidency’s communications chief:
